Comparison of Physicochemical Properties of Chinese and Japanese Japonica–Type Rice Varieties
The physicochemical properties of 10 Chinese varieties were compared with those of Japanese varieties. Chinese and Japanese varieties were not significantly different in amylose content. However, maximum viscosity and breakdown value were significantly lower in the Chinese varieties than in the Japanese varieties, and protein content and hardness/adhesion ratio were higher in the Chinese varieties. In the Japanese varieties, the lower the amylose content, the lower was the protein content, which is a preferable quality for palatability. However, the lower the amylose content, the higher was the protein content in the Chinese varieties. In the Japanese varieties, the protein content was negatively correlated with amylogram properties and positively with texture properties, but the opposite tendency was observed in the Chinese varieties. Among the physicochemical properties of the Chinese varieties, the most serious problem was protein content; especially there is a need to disrupt the negative correlation between protein content and amylose content
Molecular Diagnosis of the Biological Control Agent Nesidiocoris tenuis (Tobacco Plant Bug) and Its Allied Species (Insecta: Hemiptera) Using COI Barcoding
DNA barcoding is a useful molecular method for identification of certain animal groups. It uses partial DNA sequences of mitochondrial genes such as the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. In this study, effectiveness of the COI barcoding as an identification tool for Nesidiocoris tenuis, which is used as a biological control agent, and for its allied species, was evaluated. All the species used in this study had a distinct COI barcode sequence, and the Neighbor–Joining (NJ) tree based on COI sequences almost matched the morphological classification for most genera investigated in this study, except for the genus Cyrtopeltis. The average interspecific genetic distance between N. tenuis and its allied species was 111 times higher than the average intraspecific genetic distance. The tree showed shallow intraspecific divergences and deep interspecific divergences. Therefore, our results suggested that COI barcode for N. tenuis and its allied species can be used as an effective identification tool by entomologists, quarantine experts and other related researchers, and can provide directions to taxonomists for further taxonomic studies
Production and Marketing of Renewable Energy Led by a Local Government and Structural Analysis on Residential Recognition of Selecting a Power Producer and Supplier
Though renewable energy for regional developments are recommended, most of projects are invested by the initiative incorporates participants from outside the areas, and almost power selling benefits are out-flown outside the areas. Because of this, the renewal energy business has no connection with the revitalization of rural areas. On the other hand, \u22Miyama Smart Energy Co., Ltd.\u22 is a Power Producer and Supplier(PPS)and was established by the Miyama City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The purpose of this PPS is to buy and sell electric power produced by solar power generation in this city, and to return the profits to the local residents. Therefore, this study conducted surveys to residents of Miyama city as target population, used the Structural Equation Modeling as methodology, and analyzed factors - how PPS affected the change of the new local power company from the past major power company. As results, \u22expectation to new business\u22 and \u22environmental considering action\u22 had a direct positive effect on \u22willingness to switching to PPS\u22, and \u22uneasiness to stability\u22 for power supply had a direct negative effect. Moreover, the more \u22attachment of hometown\u22 led to the more\u22 expectation to new business,\u22 which had an indirect positive effect toward \u22willingness to switching to PPS\u22. Furthermore, the more \u22knowledge of policy\u22 increases the more \u22recognition of the stability\u22 for power supply, and then decreases \u22uneasiness to stability\u22, which had an indirect positive effect toward \u22willingness to switching to PPS\u22
