Transforming growth factor-beta-induced gene product-h3 inhibits odontoblastic differentiation of dental pulp cells
No full textObjective: The aim of this study was to investigate transforming growth factor-b-induced gene producth3 (big-h3) expression in dental pulp tissue and its effects on odontoblastic differentiation of dental pulp cells (DPCs).
Design: A rat direct pulp capping model was prepared using perforated rat upper first molars capped with mineral trioxide aggregate cement. Human DPCs (HDPCs) were isolated from extracted teeth. big-h3 expression in rat dental pulp tissue and HDPCs was assessed by immunostaining. Mineralization of
HDPCs was assessed by Alizarin red-S staining. Odontoblast-related gene expression in HDPCs was analyzed by quantitative RT-PCR.
Results: Expression of big-h3 was detected in rat dental pulp tissue, and attenuated by direct pulp capping, while expression of interleukin-1b and tumor necrosis factor-a was increased in exposed pulp tissue. big-h3 expression was also detected in HDPCs, with reduced expression during odontoblastic differentiation. The above cytokines reduced big-h3 expression in HDPCs, and promoted their
mineralization. Recombinant big-h3 inhibited the expression of odontoblast-related genes and mineralization of HDPCs, while knockdown of big-h3 gene expression promoted the expression of
odontoblast-related genes in HDPCs.
Conclusions: The present findings suggest that big-h3 in DPCs may be involved in reparative dentin formation and that its expression is likely to negatively regulate this process

Japanese language class to encourage critical thinking : Compared to An Intensive Course for Native Students
No full text本稿は、中上級者対象のCBI（Content-Based Instruction）の実践報告である。CBI とは言語習得と教科学習の融合を目指した教授法で、第二言語の習得を促すと同時に、批判的思考力の育成にも貢献できるとされている。しかし、日本語教育では批判的思考力の育成法について具体的に論じた先行研究はなく、実践の成果を客観的なデータによって検証したものもほとんどない。本稿では、批判的思考力の育成法として「質問作成」を提案し、その効果を母語話者対象の集中講義の結果と比較・分析した。その結果、ブルームのタキソノミーに基づいた段階的な知識学習を行い、モデリングの機会を設け、フィードバックを着実に実行すれば、留学生対象の授業でも深く思考された「よい質問」が作れるようになることが示された。その反面、批判的思考態度については、学生たちがこれまで受けてきた本国の大学の講義ほど深い思考を促せず、質問の文字数にも大きな変化は見られなかった

No full textAqueous sodium-ion batteries have been proposed as an attractive alternative to large-scale energy storage in terms of safety and economic efficiency. We experimentally confirmed that the potential width of the practical electrochemical window of a highly concentrated aqueous NaClO_4 electrolyte had 2.8 V by using the method of cyclic voltammetry. This positive effect allowed the Na_2MnFe(CN)_6 cathode to operate reversibly at unusually higher potentials in highly concentrated aqueous electrolyte without any side reactions such as undesirable oxidation of water
