    A study on the Energy Consumption Behavior in Kathmandu, Nepal

    The increasing population pressure and urbanization in Nepal constitute a higher demand for energy. This has led a huge challenge to support energy demand of larger population while limiting their impact on energy and environment. Energy consumed in Nepal is mostly derived from the non-renewable energy source. In order to pursue a sustainable development and the energy efficient planning in cities, it is important to get an understanding of inhabitants\u27 energy consumption behavior. Therefore, this research aims to study energy use perspective at the household level and community level in towns of Kathmandu city. The study is conducted through 250 household field questionnaire survey of Ward No. 13, Kathmandu. The study shows that poor quality of urban services and energy intensive behavior has led the higher demand for energy. It is realized that awareness has a significant role in achieving energy efficiency both in domestic and community level. At the end, solutions have been drawn for reducing energy consumption in Kathmandu based on survey data analysis

    Green buildings or eco-friendly buildings mostly concentrate on the efficient use of energy in house hold electromechanical equipment. In an over populated country like Bangladesh where only 62% of its people are having the privilege of using electricity and which is not sufficient (only 7000-8000MW) for a country like Bangladesh. Moreover 46% to 50% of this energy is consumed in the resident buildings creating an enormous pressure on fulfilling the demand of electricity. As a result of this industries are burning gas, coal, oil etc. to harness energy which emits greenhouse gases causing environmental pollution. In this study we emphasis on redesigning these buildings in a way that utilizes Siting and structure design efficiency, Energy efficiency, Water efficiency, Materials efficiency, Indoor environmental quality enhancement, Operations and maintenance optimization, Waste reduction. By doing this we can abate the dependency on electric energy of those buildings to a great extent
