Summery and Prospect of Current Studies on Paintings of Hawks and Falconry in Japan : Consideration with the Chinese Paintings of Hawks
This report introduces Japanese paintings of hawks and falconry, based on previous studies. Furthermore, in this report, hypotheses will be suggested regarding the features of Japanese hawk paintings with respect to the studies on the Chinese paintings. Since most studies on the paintings of hawks in Japan have developed through introduction and discussions of each individual work, much less comprehensive research results have been presented in the present circumstances. On the other hand, studies related to the Chinese paintings that significantly influenced the Japanese paintings, have achieved notable results. Thus, referring to the results of research into Chinese paintings of hawks, the formation and development of paintings, pictures and sculptures of hawks can be understood. In addition, some studies have endeavored to find the political intentions of works from the relationships between motifs and patrons, and these results have been reported by not only Japanese researchers, but by those overseas. In contrast to the significant progress of the research/studies on paintings of hawks, there are few studies investigating falconry paintings, which is one subject within the category of genre paintings. Among such studies, however, those of Riko IMAHASHI are important pioneering works; and, papers have been written citing IMAHASHl\u27s studies. In recent years, moreover, previously unknown paintings of folding screens and picture scrolls are surfacing successively. In many cases, however, they are still being exhibited without discussion or analysis; hence, further comprehensive studies on hawking paintings are anticipated

Bone and Joint Diseases in Present and Future
本文PDFの著者誤表示:(誤)水内 秀樹 (正)水内 秀城With the increase of elderly population, orthopaedic surgeons need to deal with the diseases related to aging, such as joint disorders and fragility fractures. The number of total joint replacements, for example, is two times more than it was 10 years ago. With these backgrounds, the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) has proposed the concept of locomotive syndrome; conditions under which the elderly have been receiving care services due to problems of the locomotive organs. To prevent geriatric or disuse syndrome, JOA is currently providing the care‒prevention programs such as the loco-check and loco-training. Recent advances in the orthopaedic fields were cited in this review article, including the topics of new biomaterials, regenerative medicine of cartilage, spinal cord injury and computer assisted orthopaedic surgery. These new technologies and knowledge are changing or have potential to change the future orthopedic medical care
PirB regulates asymmetries in hippocampal circuitry
Left–right asymmetry is a fundamental feature of higher-order brain structure; however, the molecular basis of brain asymmetry remains unclear. We recently identified structural and functional asymmetries in mouse hippocampal circuitry that result from the asymmetrical distribution of two distinct populations of pyramidal cell synapses that differ in the density of the NMDA receptor subunit GluRε2 (also known as NR2B, GRIN2B or GluN2B). By examining the synaptic distribution of ε2 subunits, we previously found that β2-microglobulin-deficient mice, which lack cell surface expression of the vast majority of major histocompatibility complex class I (MHCI) proteins, do not exhibit circuit asymmetry. In the present study, we conducted electrophysiological and anatomical analyses on the hippocampal circuitry of mice with a knockout of the paired immunoglobulin-like receptor B (PirB), an MHCI receptor. As in β2-microglobulin-deficient mice, the PirB-deficient hippocampus lacked circuit asymmetries. This finding that MHCI loss-of-function mice and PirB knockout mice have identical phenotypes suggests that MHCI signals that produce hippocampal asymmetries are transduced through PirB. Our results provide evidence for a critical role of the MHCI/PirB signaling system in the generation of asymmetries in hippocampal circuitry
Treatment and Regeneration of Nano-scale Zero-valent Iron Spent in Water Remediation
Nano-scale zero-valent iron (nZVI) has shown its promising treatment technique to decontaminate nitrate from water. However, research reports lack the treatment and regeneration of the spent reagent from the treatment process. This research utilized different derivatives of nZVIs in the purpose of nitrate treatment in its aqueous solution to show their different reactivities in applied batch experiments. Selected nanoparticles were investigated via transmission electron microscopy, surface characterization analyzer, X-ray diffraction and laser-scattering particle size analyzer. The fresh synthesized nZVI had the highest performance with complete nitrate removal within 60 min. Treated nZVI succeeded to regain the lost reactivity of aged nZVI and boosted its removal efficiency 10 times. On the other hand, the regenerated nZVI, recovered from spent synthesized nanoparticles, regained full and complete removal efficiency of nitrate, the same as the synthesized nZVI. The obtained result gives a great competitiveness of nZVI reagent to treat nitrate against any other treatment technology
Unidirectional control of optically induced spin waves
Unidirectional control of optically induced spin waves in a rare-earth iron garnet crystal is demonstrated. We observed the interference of two spin-wave packets with different initial phases generated by circularly polarized light pulses. This interference results in unidirectional propagation if the spin-wave sources are spaced apart at 1/4 of the wavelength of the spin waves and the initial phase difference is set to π/2 . The propagating direction of the spin wave is switched by the polarization helicity of the light pulses. Moreover, in a numerical simulation, applying more than two spin-wave sources with a suitable polarization and spot shape, arbitrary manipulation of the spin wave by the phased array method was replicated
