This short perspective piece introduces Pause and Reflect, a practical tool for guided Restorative Reflective Supervision. It describes current workforce challenges that restorative reflective practice seeks to mitigate, the theoretical foundations of restorative reflective supervision, and the policy context in which it operates. The paper describes Pause and Reflect, a novel and structured model for guided restorative reflective supervision. It outlines the core delivery approach, which integrates the reflective elements within the restorative framework. Particular emphasis is placed on its practical implementation
Emerging roles of cAMP: a transcriptional master regulator in the canonical TIR1/AFB-mediated auxin signaling
Recent breakthroughs have revealed that the auxin receptors TIR1/AFB possess adenylate cyclase (AC) activity, producing the second messenger 3',5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) to regulate transcription. This fundamentally reshapes our understanding of auxin signaling. This review synthesizes
current knowledge on the dual functionality of TIR1/AFBs: mediating both the canonical SCFTIR1/AFB-Aux/IAA-ARF cascade and auxin-induced cAMP production. Genetic and biochemical evidence demonstrates that Aux/IAA interaction enhances TIR1/AFB's AC activity, while locally generated cAMP near ARFs can activate transcription independently of Aux/IAA degradation, suggesting the presence of a parallel signaling axis. As a central hub, cAMP further integrates auxin responses with other hormonal pathways (e.g., ABA, JA, SA, and GA3) through bidirectional crosstalk. In this review, two mechanistic models are proposed for cAMP-mediated ARF activation: (1) kinase cascades via cAMP-dependent phosphorylation, and (2) chromatin remodeling through histone acetylation. Key unresolved questions include spatiotemporal control of cAMP gradients, identification of plant phosphodiesterases (PDEs), and coordination between fast and canonical auxin signaling responses. These findings establish cAMP as a pivotal regulator in auxin signaling and hormonal crosstalk, providing novel insights into plant development and stress adaptation
The EU Deforestation Regulation: challenges, opportunities and the impact on the producing countries of cocoa and coffee
The European Union Deforestation Regulation, also known as EUDR, is a policy that aims to globally address deforestation. This is done by prohibiting commodities that are linked to deforestation, to be brought onto the EU market. It is applicable to 7 commodities and in my thesis, I focused specifically on the commodities ‘coffee’ and ‘cocoa’. As the EUDR obligates the producing countries to comply with this regulation to not lose market access, the impact of the EUDR on these producing countries is an interesting case study to get an understanding of the possibilities for environmental policies in general. I looked at the perceived challenges, opportunities and impacts, using the PRISMA selection methodology, to research the papers that were published on this topic after the adoption of the regulation. It became clear that the way producing countries perceive the impact of the EUDR is closely linked to their legal alignment with the regulation, the number of smallholder coffee and cocoa farmers that are active in the country, and the number of investments that have to be made to comply with the EUDR. Some of the challenges faced by producing countries have to do with national laws that are incompatible with the EUDR, a lack of awareness and technical capacity, map misclassifications, and the burden on smallholder farmers. So, the EUDR could benefit from some revisions, but in the coffee and cocoa sector, opportunities are also recognised. These opportunities range from the obvious addressing of deforestation to the assimilation of fairer producer prices for the coffee and cocoa farmer and obtaining more environmental policies and laws globally. The EUDR could become an incentive for more similar policies and more environmental policies on different levels. To conclude, the EUDR might initially bring a financial burden to invest in formalising everything to be able to comply, but more permanently complying with the EUDR will have the positive outcome of long-term sustainable, financial, economic and social benefits

Assessment of aqueous graphene as a cancer therapeutics delivery system
Graphene is a nanomaterial used in health and oncology settings. However, several reports have raised the alarm about potential toxicity. This study addressed this concern and determined the in vitro cytotoxicity of few-layer graphene (FLG) flakes produced in bespoke ultrasonic reactors using benign methods. The use of graphene flakes as a potential sensitising agent and a carrier for drug delivery in cancer cells was evaluated. To this end, aqueous based FLG suspensions were systematically characterised using UV-Vis, Raman spectroscopy and High-resolution Transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). Cell toxicity characterisation (e.g., cell viability assays using 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and cell membrane integrity) of FLG in water were performed together with charge coupled device (CCD) and second harmonic generation (SHG) imaging of live cells in graphene solutions. Collectively, our findings show that NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblast and human fibroblast cells survival was higher than 80% and 90%, respectively upon treatment with the FLG fraction (~ 16 µg/ml ) recovered after centrifugation at 2000 revolutions per minute (RPM). In contrast, the cervical cancer cell line HeLa exposed to similar concentrations of FLG flakes resulted in approximately 30% cell death arguing in favour of a sensitising effect in cervical cancer cells
