University pedagogical advising: challenges in consolidating the teacher training space at a federal university
This narrative research is grounded in the conceptual distinction between space (institutional potential) and place (legitimized human dimension) proposed by Cunha (2008) to investigate how to transform the pedagogical advisory space at UFSCar’s Araras Campus into an effective place for teacher training. The general objective was to identify faculty training needs and analyze how Pedagogical Advisory can foster their professional development, aiming to develop a contextualized training proposal. Using a qualitative approach, the study combined document analysis, electronic questionnaires with faculty members, a discussion circle on professional development, and thematic data analysis (Minayo, 2010), aligned with the theoretical framework of University Pedagogy. The results revealed three critical dimensions: (1) the structural weaknesses of DeEG-Ar, constrained by a small team and the absence of consolidated institutional policies for teacher training; (2) the cultural challenges represented by the primacy of research over teaching in the academic environment; and (3) the identified potential for transforming the space into a formative place. As a key contribution, the study proposes concrete strategies for implementing UFSCar’s Continuing Education Policy and, consequently, consolidating DeEG-Ar as a training hub. It underscores the urgent need to integrate teaching excellence into faculty career progression criteria, strengthen communication about the role of pedagogical advisory, and establish permanent mechanisms for evaluating training initiatives. Beyond its academic significance, the findings of this research serve as practical tools for the researcher’s professional practice as a pedagogical advisor, providing insights for both local action and the development of multi-campus teacher training networks. The study also highlights the need for future follow-up to monitor the implementation of the proposed policy and assess its impact on effectively transforming the advisory space into a formative place
Pb-210 geochronology applied to the historical reconstruction of microplastic pollution in fluvial sediments and interpretative analysis of its occurrences in the Corumbataí river basin, São Paulo
There is a growing concern about plastic pollutants in the environment, which has been amplified by the detection of MPs (plastic particles 0.5 mm, but they lack sufficient efficiency for smaller MPs, which remain highly abundant in the samples even after the installation of WWTPs. The quantity and types of MPs present in the sediments are directly related to land use and occupation activities in the region, as well as the distance from urban areas. The river’s morphology influences the transport and deposition dynamics of sediments and, consequently, of microplastics, highlighting the need for further studies to establish parallels between the behavior of natural sediments and MPs. Wastewater treatment systems play a crucial role in mitigating this growing problem. While they retain a significant portion of MPs, their efficiency can be improved with investments in advanced final effluent treatment technologies.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)CAPES: 001

The intersection of literature and law in Senhora, by José de Alencar
Senhora, a novel written by José de Alencar and first published in 1875, is an intriguing and engaging novel which highlights female emancipation while addressing the social dimensions in the face of Rio de Janeiro court society in 19th-century. The novel discusses the values and behaviors of an aristocratic society, reporting the transition of social ascension and behavior by the bourgeoisie in the face of marriage. In the plot, there is a clash between the world of idealized, insensitive, and desired love, and the turbulent experience of the protagonists Aurelia and Fernando. Themes such as love, wealth, poverty, ostentation, power, marriage for money, contempt, hatred, and disappointments are equally dealt with in the narrative. The work is structured in four parts, whose titles are focused on mercantile relationships, representing marriage as a type of purchase and sale contract, since Aurélia effectively buys her own husband by offering him a dowry in a higher value than that of another suitor. This work deserves to be viewed from a legal perspective, since it was written before the emergence of the first Brazilian Civil Code, which, sanctioned in 1916, and inspired by economic liberalism, it places a great emphasis on asset protection, bringing in its wake rules pertaining to family and inheritance relations. Even before the emergence of the Civil Code, numerous situations related to Family Law and Succession were described in the plot of Senhora. The correlation between Literature and Law aims to provide an analysis of the historical-legislative context based on Senhora, as this plot depicts the customs of bourgeois society in the 19th century, with numerous issues in need of legal regulation. The science of Law, being a historical-cultural science, is based on social experience, ethical and moral values, regulating social coexistence. This work presents an innovative view of the novel, offering a reflective and conscious reading of the influence of Literature on legal institutions. In this way, based on the novel Senhora, the intersection between Literature and Law is presented in order to provide knowledge about the influence of the relationship between culture, customs, ethical and moral values, and normative construction
On the type series of <i>Hylodes petropolitanus</i> Wandolleck, 1907 (Anura, Cycloramphidae), with taxonomic considerations of<i> Eupsophus</i><i> fuliginosus</i> Fitzinger, 1861
Thoropa comprises seven recognized species, including T. bryomantis, T. lutzi, T. megatympanum, T. miliaris, T. petropolitana, T. saxatilis, and T. taophora. It was believed that the syntypes of T. petropolitana were destroyed during the Dresden bombings in World War II; however, there are two extant syntypes of T. petropolitana in the amphibian collection of the American Museum of Natural History where they were transferred from the Staatlichen Museum f & uuml;r Tierkunde Dresden in 1923. Herein we designate a lectotype for T. petropolitana and provide a taxonomic history of the species, a synonymy, a redescription, a summary of its geographic distribution, and comments about its conservation. We also review the taxonomic status of Eupsophus fuliginosus Fitzinger, 1861, and discuss its implication for the taxonomic status of T. petropolitana.Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Univ Estadual Paulista, Dept Biodiversidade, Inst Biociencias, Rio Claro, SP, BrazilUniv Estadual Paulista, Ctr Aquicultura CAUNESP, Inst Biociencias, Rio Claro, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Rio de Janeiro, Dept Vertebrados, Museu Nacl, Rio De Janeiro, BrazilUniv Sao Paulo, Dept Zool, Inst Biociencias, Sao Paulo, BrazilAmer Museum Nat Hist, Div Vertebrate Zool, New York, NY USAUniv Fed Vicosa, Museu Zool Joao Moojen, Dept Biol Anim, Programa Posgrad Biol Anim, BR-36570900 Vicosa, MG, BrazilUniv Estadual Paulista, Dept Biodiversidade, Inst Biociencias, Rio Claro, SP, BrazilUniv Estadual Paulista, Ctr Aquicultura CAUNESP, Inst Biociencias, Rio Claro, SP, BrazilCNPq: 141454/2015-6CNPq: 304713/2023-6CNPq: 408901/2021-7CNPq: 314480/2021-8FAPESP: 2012/25370-2FAPESP: 2013/50741-7FAPESP: 2018/15425-0FAPESP: 2021/10639-5FAPESP: 2021/12455-
Functionalization of collagen fiber with nano-islands of silver via atomic layer deposition to promote bone healing
Modern techniques of thin film deposition (e.g., atomic layer deposition [ALD]) have paved the way for the modification of the surface of target substrates with thin films, nanoparticles, or other types of nanomaterials. This novel way can improve the base material's properties and enhance specific properties through adding functionalized groups to the surface. In this study, ALD of silver was conducted on commercially available Type I collagen membrane to improve its bioactivity and promote bone healing. Two different sample groups were studied: pristine collagen and silver-coated collagen via ALD (Ag/Collagen). Chemical and morphological changes of the collagen membrane were investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy and the bioactivity of functionalized collagen with silver was studied in vitro and in vivo. Nano-islands of silver were obtained on collagen fibrils with an average diameter of ∼16 nm. Comparison of gingival cells cultured on pristine collagen, and silver-coated collagen, demonstrated that the attained silver nanoparticle size and concentration are below the toxicity level of silver. In vivo assessment in rat model showed the biocompatibility of the Ag/Collagen, and greater new bone formation compared to control. This novel solvent-free method can be used to functionalize sensitive materials used in surgeries as bone grafting agents to enhance osteopromotive properties without any adverse effects to the cellular environment.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)National Science FoundationChemical Engineering Department University of Illinois ChicagoDepartment of Diagnosis and Surgery Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), AraçatubaDepartment of Oral Diagnosis Piracicaba Dental School Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), PiracicabaDepartment of Basic Sciences Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), AraçatubaDepartment of Prosthodontics and Periodontology Piracicaba Dental School Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), PiracicabaDepartment of Prosthodontics School of Dental Medicine University of PittsburghBiomedical Engineering Department University of Illinois ChicagoDepartment of Diagnosis and Surgery Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), AraçatubaDepartment of Basic Sciences Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), Araçatub
Dynamics of immune functional mechanisms and their roles in promoting host resistance to Haemonchus contortus infection in suckling lambs
An RNA-seq dataset of 68-day-old lambs from two sheep breeds was analysed to identify differentially expressed genes involved in biological processes, molecular functions, cellular components, and pathways associated with resistance against Haemonchus contortus. Naïve Santa Ines (resistant breed) and Ile de France (susceptible breed) suckling lambs were serially infected with increasing numbers of H. contortus infective larvae (5400 in total) and had their abomasal mucosa sampled for sequencing. Gene Ontology annotation and enrichment analysis generated a list of 312 biological processes, 56 cellular components, and 106 molecular functions significantly enriched terms. Santa Ines lambs had significantly higher expression of genes involved in inflammatory responses, B-cell activation and receptor signalling pathways, complement activation, and angiogenesis. Most of the cellular components were associated with B-cell receptor complex, Fc-epsilon receptor I complex, and MHC class II protein (MHCII) complex terms. Additionally, most of the molecular functions were associated with IgE binding and receptor activity, IgA and immunoglobulin receptor binding. Santa Ines lambs showed a robust tissue repair mechanism, mediated mainly by fibroblast proliferation and collagen biosynthesis, epithelial cell maturation and structure maintenance, and strong smooth muscle contraction. Here, we present a detailed picture of the biological processes, and a comprehensive understanding of the gene architecture involved in the resistance trait of young lambs against H. contortus. The cluster of genes reported here might be useful for identifying target-based markers that could provide early selection of resistant sheep to H. contortus infection.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)São Paulo State University (UNESP) School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, SPSão Paulo State University (UNESP) Department of Biostatistics and Biodiversity of the Institute of Biosciences, SPInstitute of Biodiversity Animal Health and Comparative Medicine College of Medical Veterinary and Life Sciences University of GlasgowSão Paulo State University (UNESP) School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, SPSão Paulo State University (UNESP) Department of Biostatistics and Biodiversity of the Institute of Biosciences, SPFAPESP: 2021/03479–1CNPq: CNPq - 303624/2021-
Beta diversity of macrophyte life forms: Responses to local, spatial, and land use variables in Amazon aquatic environments
Aquatic macrophytes encompass a highly diverse group of plants with different strategies, niche requirements, and dispersion capacities. Therefore, macrophyte life forms can respond distinctly to environmental factors. We analyzed whether emergent/amphibious, floating-leaves/rooted submerged, and free-floating/free-submerged macrophytes respond differently to local, spatial, and land use variables in ponds and streams of the Amazon. We sampled macrophytes and physical and chemical variables in 158 sites in the Pará state, Brazil. Land use and land cover were obtained via satellite images. A total of 264 macrophyte taxa were recorded, including 234 amphibious/emergent, 17 floating-leaves/rooted submerged, and 13 free-floating/free-submerged. The highest total beta diversity was recorded for amphibious/emergent species (0.47), followed by free-floating and floating submerged (0.41), and floating-leaves and rooted submerged species (0.39). The replacement component explained the greatest proportion of total beta for the three macrophyte groups, with values higher than 60 %. The spatial component greatly influenced the total beta diversity of amphibious/emergent (R2 = 0.06) and floating-leaves/rooted submerged life forms (R2 = 0.08). Meanwhile, local variables were more associated with the total beta diversity of free-floating/free-submerged macrophytes (R2 = 0.06). Free-floating and free-submerged life forms were the only groups influenced by land use changes (R2 = 0.02), and their richness difference between sites was spatially structured (R2 = 0.10). Our study is one of the first to explore the combined effects of local, spatial, and land use variables on macrophyte life forms. These results are important for deeply understanding macrophyte structure in Amazon environments, threatened by anthropic activities and planning conservation strategies.
The participatory curriculum project has 8 pre-organized interventions, thus forming the didactic sequence, giving teachers and students mobility to increase or reduce the number of interventions and modify the themes. The doteaching model is suggested because it is the practice through which teachers and students seek to build knowledge together in the classroom (Freire, 2020). In Freire's reading, the work of the student offers the opportunity to collectively build learning, which makes doteaching a very important practice for the qualification and expansion of the educational process. Carrying out a participatory curriculum project based on doteaching is a great opportunity for high school teachers to work on engagement in Physical Education classes, giving students a voice and a chance to develop autonomy and youth protagonism, in addition to increasing participation rates in classes, since this proposal takes into account students' ideas, prior knowledge and preferences.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)CAPES: 001
