TJ-SP case law regarding freedom of speech on the internet and the protection of online privacy (2014-2023)
The collision between fundamental rights is a barrier trivially faced by the legal profession in the procedural sphere. In the context of the e-book, it was observed that there is a great deal of media repercussion when these opposing rights are freedom of speech, on the one hand, and personality rights, on the other. From 2014 to 2023, 61 civil appeals covering this issue were detected in the São Paulo State Court of Justice (TJ-SP). Of this amount, 23 cases were analyzed by this Graduate Research Paper, with the goal of understanding how the state court faces the dilemma of freedom of speech versus personality and whether there is a modus operandi that guides the judgment of these cases in the TJ-SP. In summary, the conclusion reached was that the Court favored the right to freedom of speech, in a strict 12-11 score
Biobanks: challenges and advances in veterinary forensic medicine with potential application in combating wildlife trafficking
Biobanks are organized collections of biological materials, human or non-human, accompanied by associated information, intended for scientific research, reproduction, and/or clinical use. In veterinary medicine, biobanks serve various purposes, including scientific research, forensic investigations, support for species conservation, genetic material preservation, and applications in education and teaching. This study aimed to explore the advances and challenges in the use of biobanks in veterinary forensic medicine, as well as their potential application in species identification, trafficking route tracking, and the development of protection and conservation measures for wildlife. A descriptive and retrospective systematic review was conducted, covering scientific articles published between 2013 and 2023, using an adapted PRISMA 2020 methodology. No articles were retrieved between 2013 and 2014; between 2015 and 2023, 15 articles were recovered, highlighting significant advances from 2015 onwards, especially in the preservation of endangered species and forensic applications, focusing on animal identification and geographic tracking. In Brazil and worldwide, regional research has progressed, emphasizing the identification of fishery by-products, conservation of gonads, somatic cells, and tissues, consolidating biobanks as an essential tool in combating animal trafficking, especially in regions of high biodiversity. Implementation proposals, such as regionalized material collection at CETAS and the creation of a national animal identification bank, should be explored. Despite limitations, the potential for expansion and application of biobanks in monitoring illegal trade is promising, particularly with the ongoing improvement of current research
Synthesis of hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanoparticles using Syzygium cumini extract: Photodegradation of norfloxacin and enhanced recyclability
In this study, we report obtaining α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles by a green synthesis method using different concentrations of Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels (Myrtaceae) leaf extract. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of materials confirmed the presence of pure hematite phase α-Fe2O3 without any impurities. In addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques revealed almost spherical NPs' morphology. At the same time, it was clear from the dispersive energy X-ray (EDS) technique that no other chemical elements were present in the sample. On the other hand, the band gap energy obtained from the materials was 1.9 and 2.0 eV. The photodegradation tests showed a photocatalytic efficiency of 96 % for the sample produced with the lowest extract concentration. The mineralization rate of norfloxacin was 32.5 %, as indicated by the Total Organic Carbon tests. In addition, its potential to generate reactive oxygen species that aid in the degradation of the pharmaceutical contaminant has been confirmed.Centro de Desenvolvimento de Materiais FuncionaisFundação de Amparo à Pesquisa e ao Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico do MaranhãoSchool of Materials Engineering, Purdue UniversityConselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)PPGQ – Federal Institute of Maranhão Campus São Luís Monte Castelo – (IFMA), MACDMF LIEC – Federal University of São Carlos – (UFSCar), SPPDQ – Federal Institute of Maranhão Campus São Luís Monte Castelo – (IFMA), MAPPGQuim-Federal University of Maranhão-(UFMA), MAIQ – São Paulo State University (UNESP), SPIQSC – University of São Paulo (IQSC-USP), SPIFSC – University of São Paulo (IFSC-USP), SPIQ – São Paulo State University (UNESP), SPCNPq: 116926/2022-8FAPESP: 2013/07296-2FAPESP: 2018/09761-8FAPESP: 2018/22022-0FAPESP: 2018/22210-0FAPESP: 2018/22211-7FAPESP: 2019/06650-3FAPESP: 2021/06128-5FAPESP: 2022/06219-3FAPESP: 2022/12895-1FAPESP: 2023/01425-7FAPESP: 2023/06558-5FAPESP: 2023/07525-3CAPES: 88887.472618/2019–00CAPES: 88887.626035/2021-0
Effect on mechanical and microbiological properties of adding calcium glycerophosphate and xylitol to glass ionomer cement
This study aimed to evaluate the effect on the mechanical and microbiological properties of incorporating calcium glycerophosphate (CaGP) and/or xylitol into resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC). Six experimental cements were tested: i) RMGIC without additions; and RMGIC with ii) 5% xylitol; iii) 10% xylitol; iv) 3% CaGP; v) 3% CaGP and 5% xylitol, or vi) 3% CaGP and 10% xylitol. The compressive strength, diametral tensile strength and surface hardness were determined (24 h and 7 days). Antimicrobial/antibiofilm activity was evaluated. Compressive strength values after 24 h for +3% CaGP & 5% xylitol were higher and similar to RMGIC. After 7 days, +3% CaGP & 5% xylitol presented the highest compressive strength values. The +3% CaGP & 10% xylitol showed the lowest values of diametral tensile strength values (24 h). The RMGIC with +3% CaGP & 5% xylitol showed the highest diametral tensile strength (7 days). The surface hardness (24 h) were highest for the RMGIC and +10% xylitol. After 7 days, +3% CaGP & 5% xylitol showed the highest value. The +3% CaGP & 5% xylitol or +3% CaGP & 10% xylitol showed the lowest levels of microbial/biofilm formation. The addition of CaGP/xylitol promoted improved the mechanical and antibacterial properties of RMGIC.School of Dentistry University of Ribeirão Preto – UNAERP, SPDepartment of Dental Materials Endodontics and Operative Dentistry Bauru School of Dentistry University of São PauloFraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAMDepartment of Morphology Genetics Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry São Paulo State University (Unesp) School of Dentistry, SPDepartment of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry School of Dentistry São Paulo State University (UNESP), SPPolyclinic of Operative Dentistry Periodontology and Pediatric Dentistry Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus Technical University of DresdenDepartment of Morphology Genetics Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry São Paulo State University (Unesp) School of Dentistry, SPDepartment of Preventive and Restorative Dentistry School of Dentistry São Paulo State University (UNESP), S
Temporary Facility Location Problem in Humanitarian Logistics: A Systematic Literature Review
Background: Facility location is a key challenge in humanitarian logistics, particularly in disaster response, where rapid and efficient resource deployment is crucial. Temporary facilities offer a cost-effective solution due to their rapid deployment and flexibility in addressing increased demand and the dynamic conditions of post-disaster environments. Methods: This study conducts a systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines to analyze facility location problems involving temporary or modular facilities in humanitarian logistics. A total of 65 articles from Scopus and Web of Science were analyzed. Results: Most studies focus on temporary facilities like shelters and medical centers in earthquake-affected areas, with most applications in Asia. Despite being temporary, only 6% of the studies consider closure decisions. Recent research explores modular facilities that enhance adaptability through module relocation and capacity adjustments. Conclusions: Temporary facilities after sudden-onset disasters require advanced modeling approaches that include multi-period planning, modular design, and complex decision-making, requiring solutions through heuristics or relaxations. However, there is a lack of research on their application in slow-onset and human-induced disasters. Moreover, considering geographical, cultural, and political factors is essential to ensure effective solutions. Further studies are also needed on facilities functioning as collection and processing centers, given their critical role in the humanitarian supply chain.Production Engineering Department Polytechnic School Universidade de São Paulo—USPProduction Engineering Department São Paulo State UniversityEnvironmental Engineering Department São Paulo State UniversityProduction Engineering Department São Paulo State UniversityEnvironmental Engineering Department São Paulo State Universit
Evaluation of 10% metronidazole and 2% lidocaine paste with ozone therapy for the treatment of osteonecrosis of the jaw induced by zoledronate after extraction in ovariectomized rats
Medication-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a pathological condition that still lacks a consensus in the literature regarding its treatment and therefore deserves attention. Given this, secondary therapies may play an important role in tissue control and response, while topical metronidazole-based paste and systemic ozone may be promising. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of metronidazole-based paste associated with systemic ozone therapy in the treatment of bisphosphonate-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw after tooth extraction in ovariectomized senile rats subjected to zoledronate therapy. For this purpose, 30 12-month-old rats were divided into 3 groups. The microtomography group (n = 15) had 5 rats subjected to euthanasia after environmentalization in a vivarium for analysis of bone architecture (MCT0), 5 received zoledronate for 3 weeks and were subsequently revealed (MCT1), and 5 received saline solutions for comparison (MCT2). The remaining rats were equally divided into experimental groups; in the SAL group, the rats were subjected to applications of 0.9% sodium chloride solution and the ZOL group received application of Zoledronate 100 μg/kg, both every 3 days for 7 weeks; the ZOl+OZ/POI group received the application of zoledronate following the same protocol and topical application of the paste, in the alveolus after the release of the first lower left molar, in addition to systemic ozone therapy. After the end of the therapy application period, the rats were euthanized, and their jaws were analyzed by computed microtomography and histological examinations. The results indicated a good tissue response and an efficient process of bone neoformation, despite the induction of osteonecrosis, in the group that received alternative therapies compared to the ZOL group, which presented fragile bone tissue, areas of necrosis and inflammation.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)FAPESP: 2022/10964-
Non-modifiable and modifiable factors affecting anxiety and depressive symptoms in young athletes
The present dissertation initially aimed to conduct a systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression to investigate the prevalence and incidence of moderate to severe anxiety and depression in athletes, identifying potential characteristics that influence these outcomes. It considered the level of competition (amateur, collegiate, elite) and the type of sport (individual vs. collective), as well as gender (male vs. female) and age through a systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression. This study included 49 studies and demonstrated a prevalence of 15% for moderate to severe anxiety symptoms, 18% for moderate to severe depressive symptoms, and 35% for moderate to severe anxiety/depressive symptoms among active athletes, with an incidence of 40% for anxiety/depressive symptoms when validated screening tools were used. However, there was a notable difference in prevalence when comparing depression screening tools (18%) with those based on athletes' self-reports of medical diagnoses, registry data, or diagnostic interviews (6%). Additionally, the highest anxiety, Depression, and Anxiety/Depression symptom burdens were observed in amateur athletes and those involved in individual sports. Therefore, it is also necessary to assess causal relationships between possible risk factors throughout their athletic careers. In this regard, the second objective was to conduct a cross-sectional study to examine the association between non-modifiable factors (age categories, sex, and ethnicity) and modifiable factors (sport type, socioeconomic status, training load, sleep, and eating disorders) with anxiety and depressive symptoms in young athletes. This study involved 168 young athletes from ambos time and individual sports and explored the determinants of anxiety and depression in these groups. Sleep quality (p < 0.001) appears to play a central role in the investigated phenomenon, affecting ambos health outcomes. Female athletes (p = 0.018), those aged 18 or older (p = 0.049), and those participating in individual sports (p = 0.012) exhibited higher depressive symptoms. Athletes from Minority Group showed higher depressive symptoms than Dominant group (p = 0.014). Thus, it is concluded that poor sleep quality appears to be a potentially associated variable with a higher occurrence of anxiety and depressive symptoms among young athletes, while participation in individual sports and older age seem to trigger depressive symptoms in these athletes.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)CAPES: 00
Fuel energy transportation and transformation based on the hydrogen obtainment system by solid-oxide fuel-cell and ethanol steam reforming integration
In operation, hydrogen transportation can be subjected to frequent issues due to the complexity of its storage containment. This work investigates the transportation of a blend of ethanol and water instead hydrogen (e.g., compressed), combined with the usage of a compacted station (ten feet container volume) operated by a Solid-Oxide Fuel-Cell (SOFC) and an Ethanol-Steam-Reformer (ESR) integrated as a system. This system aims to produce clean-hydrogen and electricity either concomitantly or alternately, directly at the final consumer location (e.g., industrial facilities or refueling stations), establishing it as a valid alternative for energy transportation of fuel, particularly addressing the complexity of hydrogen transportation. A previous energy-mass balance studied related to hydrogen/electricity obtainment, based on exactly this stationary compacted station design, is used. An exergetic analysis related to the operation of the system (SOFC and ESR combined) complements the previous study based only on energy and mass balance. The investigation focused on a simulation of 1 kg of hydrogen production, involving the addition of an electrolysis (ELE) rig. The simulations conducted demonstrated operationally optimized values for ESR temperatures. It noticed a system exergetic efficiency of 79.8 % for an ESR temperature of 660 K (387 °C). Additionally, a methodology based on Value-Analysis (VA) or Value-Engineering (VE) is applied to evaluate the ethanol–water blend's carrying features compared to compressed hydrogen transport. The value of the function ‘retain the volume/mass’ of the ethanol–water blend is 31.4 % enhanced, compared to the hydrogen gas compressed, which is precisely the main disadvantage of hydrogen carrying.Universidade Estadual PaulistaUniversidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Laboratory of Optimization of Energy Systems (LOSE) Department of Energy School of Engineering Institute of Bioenergy Research (IPBEN-UNESP) - Associated Laboratory of buaratinguetá Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), SPPost-graduation Program in Mechanical Engineering Federal University of ABC (UFABC)Laboratory of Optimization of Energy Systems (LOSE) Department of Energy School of Engineering Institute of Bioenergy Research (IPBEN-UNESP) - Associated Laboratory of buaratinguetá Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), SPCAPES: 33002037024P7CAPES: 913621/2023-0
Proximal tibial osteotomies for treating grade IV medial patellar luxation in two feline stifles
Objectives: There is a lack of literature regarding the surgical management of high-grade patellar luxation in cats. Among the available options, corrective osteotomies are suitable for correcting severe bone deformities. Therefore, this study aimed to report on the surgical management of grade IV medial patellar luxation (MPL) through tibial corrective osteotomies in two cats. Material and Methods: The two cats were diagnosed with grade IV MPL. The marked alterations observed in radiographic and tomographic images indicated external tibial torsion of 15.7° and 21.8°, concomitant with tibial valgus of 13.9° and a tibial plateau angle (TPA) of 20°, respectively. For surgical treatment, chrondoplasty was performed in Case 1, and block recession trochleoplasty in Case 2, followed by a combination of techniques originally developed for dogs. Proximal total tibial osteotomy (PTO) was combined with medial crescentic closing wedge osteotomy (MCCWO) for one case and with cranial closing wedge ostectomy (CCWO) for the other case. Results: Satisfactory postoperative results were obtained for both cats, resulting in realignment of the stifle extensor mechanism, with both tibial torsions close to 0° in subjective analysis. Additionally, a mechanical medial proximal tibial angle of 91° and a mechanical medial distal tibial angle of 99.3° were achieved for the first cat, whereas a TPA of 9.2° was achieved for the second cat. No major complications were observed, and the cats showed an early return to weight-bearing on the affected limb. Conclusion: Both cases highlight that tibial corrective osteotomies are suitable for cats and may play a role in the decision-making process for treating high-grade MPL. Moreover, a combination of PTO with MCCWO or CCWO may help achieve satisfactory outcomes.Department of Animal Science Federal University of Parana - UFPR Palotina, Acess Road Pioneiro 2153Department of Clinical and Veterinary Surgery School of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” São Paulo State University — UNESP, Access Road Prof. Paulo Donato Castellane s/n, Jaboticabal, State of São PauloOrtopediaVet Veterinary Clinic Dr. Eloy Curuci and team, Volta Redonda Street, 670 - Campo Belo, São Paulo, State of São PauloDepartment of Clinical and Veterinary Surgery School of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” São Paulo State University — UNESP, Access Road Prof. Paulo Donato Castellane s/n, Jaboticabal, State of São Paul
The feeling of hope and emotional suffering in teens in post-pandemic times
Considering the current context and the role of human beings as subjects who experience, participate in, intervene in, and act upon reality, this study aimed to investigate the feeling of hope for the future and emotional distress by listening to 3,276 adolescent boys and girls from the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades of public and private middle schools in the post-pandemic period. Beyond being an ethical, humanizing, political, and pedagogical procedure, listening should be understood as an ontological attitude of recognizing adolescent boys and girls as individuals in their own right, in both their equality and differences from adults, given their unique developmental condition. This requires a sensitive approach that respects the diversity of adolescent experiences. Based on these premises, several questions emerged: Do adolescent boys and girls express a sense of hope for their future? Do adolescent boys and girls report experiencing emotional distress? Is there a relationship between the self-perceived sense of hope and emotional distress among adolescent boys and girls? Are there differences in the manifestation of these feelings based on gender, race, and type of school? We opted for a literature review on the descriptors "hope," "adolescents," and "emotional distress." This exploratory and descriptive study, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the sense of hope and the frequency of
emotional distress among adolescents; assess whether there is a relationship between the frequency of emotional distress and the sense of hope among adolescents who self-identify with different racial backgrounds; examine whether there is a relationship between the frequency of emotional distress and the sense of hope among adolescents of different genders; investigate whether there is a relationship between the frequency of emotional distress and the sense of hope among adolescents from different types of schools—public and private; and validate a tool for measuring the sense of hope in the post-pandemic period. The hypothesis of this study is that the higher the emotional distress score, the lower the hope score, and vice versa. The results indicate an average emotional distress score of moderate intensity (24.62 points), with some extreme cases reaching close to 100, highlighting the need for concern regarding the well-being of adolescents experiencing distress.
