    Strengthening Victoria’s family violence risk assessment and information sharing: Understanding effective capability building to support MARAM implementation through the experiences of victim-survivors

    The Royal Commission into Family Violence (Royal Commission) envisioned a Victoria free from family violence – and one that keeps people safe, responds to victim-survivors’ needs and wellbeing, and keeps people using violence in view. Central to this vision was the redevelopment of the Common Risk Assessment Framework (CRAF) to respond to gaps in family violence risk assessment and management across the broader social service system.This resulted in the development of the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM) which expanded on CRAF and aims for a system wide shared understanding of family violence and can be used by all services who may come into contact with individuals and families experiencing family violence. The sectors canvassed in this study serve diverse Victorian communities and frequently encounter people who are experiencing or using family violence. The project sought to understand how capability can be built across sectors and embedded into an environment of continuous learning within the workplace for practitioners prescribed at the identification and intermediate levels of MARAM. With a focus on non-family violence specialist practitioners and workforces (noting that these practitioners are specialists in their own field), and on victim-survivors of family violence, the project has brought together diverse perspectives to provide a foundation for strengthened MARAM alignment across numerous sectors.</p

Using a mixed-method approach, the study offers practical insights for specialty coffee shops to create memorable, multisensory experiences that resonate with evolving consumer preferences. These findings equip businesses to succeed in competitive markets and contribute meaningfully to vibrant local economies in Indonesia.</p

    The nature and frequency of mental health service utilisation among police reported adult male perpetrators and victims of family violence

    This thesis not only provides the first detailed analysis of mental health service use patterns among Australian men flagged by police for family violence but also highlights the significant and complex mental health needs of these individuals. Using extensive Victorian administrative data, this data-linkage study reveals higher rates of service use compared to the general male population, particularly among those with persistent histories of family violence. The findings emphasise the necessity for enhanced, coordinated interventions to meet these needs, ultimately fostering better mental health outcomes for affected individuals and contributing to safer communities.</p

    AI Orientation, Capabilities, and Business Value: Case Study

    In this study, artificial intelligence (AI) orientation, AI capabilities, as well as process-oriented dynamic capabilities (PDCs) within the realm of AI business value creation, are unpacked through multiple case studies in Hong Kong. We propose a conceptual framework suggesting that AI resources enable organizations to develop PDCs, manifesting in several abilities, thereby contributing to business value. In addition, the case study’s findings indicate that AI capabilities developed by organizations correlate with their AI orientation, which is their overall strategic direction and aspiration of employing AI technology. Apart from basic AI capabilities, AI-oriented organizations would develop advanced AI capabilities. The proposed conceptual framework and findings can guide and assist practitioners in utilizing AI resources and building AI capabilities. This study also enriches the growing body of research on AI and contributes to the limited understanding of AI capabilities in the extant literature.</p

    Investigating the synergism of a hypoxic environment as an aid to exercise training to improve blood glucose regulation in adults with overweight

    This thesis explores the effects of combining exercise with simulated altitude conditions (hypoxia) to improve blood glucose regulation in adults with overweight. It finds that moderate, compared to high, levels of hypoxia in combination with low-intensity exercise, produced the greatest effects for improving blood glucose control. Additionally, Sprint Interval Training involving short sprints on a bike in combination with moderate hypoxia was more effective than other exercise forms for improving blood glucose regulation. The findings from this thesis provide new insights for moderate hypoxia combined with exercise as a practical strategy to enhance metabolic health in individuals with overweight.</p

    The reliance on fossil fuels has harmed the global economy and environment, leading to a push for renewable energy. However, renewables' intermittent nature limits their use. Addressing this concern requires efficient energy sources and improved storage technologies. This thesis focuses on the latter, particularly on supercapacitors (SCs), known to supply quick bursts of power but cannot supply constant energy for a longer time (like batteries). Research has therefore centered on next-generation SCs, exploring new materials with improved energy storage comparable to batteries. Our study highlights the potential of hybrid materials and advanced designs pushing the boundaries of SC technology.</p

    Advanced computational intelligence using electroencephalogram-based brain functional connectivity in monitoring cognitive workload

    Electroencephalography-based analysis using functional connectivity has been used to study various aspects of brain function including cognitive workload. This thesis aims to investigate the role of brain functional connectivity in detecting cognitive workload. The results of this research facilitate the development of methods for detecting changes in sustained attention, with applications in detecting driver fatigue in automotive contexts and workload in aviation contexts. This research will contribute to our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying different mental workload states and provide new insights into the development of technologies for enhancing cognitive performance and safety in various real-world domains.</p
