Simulation enhances mental health knowledge, skills, and attributes in enrolled nursing students

    No full text
One approach to address nurse shortages is increasing the number of enrolled nurses . However, there is a gap between what enrolled nurses learn in their courses and the skills they need on the job, especially in mental health. Nursing students need to be trained in communication, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning. This thesis suggests that simulation-based education with simulated participants can help close this gap and prepare enrolled nurses with the knowledge, skills, and attributes needed to work effectively with consumers experiencing mental health issues.</p

Empowering Academically Gifted Children: Designing an Accelerated Approach for Engagement, Connection and Knowledge Enhancement

    No full text
The A.C.E (Attract, Connect, Educate) accelerated approach for gifted children enhances engagement, communication effectiveness, and academic outcomes. Supported by both qualitative and quantitative data, the approach proves effective in addressing gifted children's needs. A.C.E uses blended, visual, and differentiated learning strategies alongside accelerated chemistry topics to foster deeper understanding and meaningful connections. This enriched approach creates an inclusive environment that motivates gifted children, improves their learning experiences, and supports their academic growth in complex subject areas through targeted and engaging instruction.</p

The Use of Telehealth for Forensic Psychiatric and Psychological Pre-Sentence Reports

    No full text
The COVID-19 pandemic increased telehealth use among forensic psychologists and psychiatrists. While telehealth has been studied in clinical contexts, its use in forensic assessments remains limited. This study compared 243 pre-sentence reports (105 telehealth, 138 in-person) and 220 sentencing comments from the County Court of Victoria. Findings indicated overall equivalence with key differences: telehealth reports were longer, highlighted limitations, included more mental status details, and showed greater diagnostic certainty. Sentencing comments referenced telehealth reports positively and in greater detail, while in-person reports had more ‘excluded’ diagnoses restated. These findings provide insight into telehealth’s role and offer recommendations for its use.</p

    The Origins of Ultra-Diffuse Galaxies

    No full text
This research investigates unusually large but faint galaxies (ultra-diffuse galaxies) to understand how they form, evolve, and relate to other types of galaxies. By studying their stars, star clusters, and gas, the work reveals different formation paths, including rare cases that lack the invisible matter found in most galaxies (dark matter). The findings improve our understanding of how small galaxies grow and change over time and offer new ways to identify and study them in the future.</p

CyberStory: A Serious Digital Game to Enhance Youth Awareness and Coping Strategies for Cyberbullying

    No full text
This research developed a digital game that teaches young people how to cope and protect their mental health when facing online abuse. Unlike traditional education, the game puts players in the shoes of a cyberbullying victim, letting them make choices, face consequences, and learn real coping skills through gameplay. Tested with over four hundred participants, it showed strong results in improving coping and reducing emotional distress. This outcome offers a new and powerful tool for digital safety to support the next generation where digital abuse is a growing problem.</p

Beyond voices: an exploration of the cognitive, and other, correlates for hallucinations across multiple sensory modalities in psychosis

    No full text
Existing literature for the potential correlates for hallucinatory experiences has focused on those in the auditory modality. However, hallucinations across non-auditory, and multiple, hallucination modalities are not uncommon. The current thesis offers an exploratory study that considers non-auditory, and visual hallucinations in particular, in relation to cognition and trauma. At present, theoretical understanding of hallucinations has focused on models limited by a narrow focus on auditory experiences, and translates into intervention. Consideration across modalities is imperative to ensure a holistic perspective is taken.</p

An Investigation into Intimate Partner Violence Among Women in Sri Lanka

    No full text
This thesis investigate intimate partner violence experienced by married women in Sri Lanka. Using both national survey data and primary data, it examines the factors that increase the risk of such violence and its impact on women's mental health. The findings provide timely and valuable evidence to inform targeted support services and interventions aimed at improving women's wellbeing. By revealing the hidden burden of intimate partner violence and its consequences, this research contributes to national and global efforts to promote gender quality, enhance mental health, and support Sri Lanka's progress toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5 on ending violence against women.</p

Dissolved oxygen and nitrous oxide dynamics in an Australasian fjord-like estuary and its augmentation by marine aquaculture

    No full text
This dissertation presents new descriptions and novel evidence on dissolved oxygen and nitrous oxide dynamics in a fjord-like estuary located in Australia (Tasmania) and in a semi-enclosed bay located in New Zealand. This work examines how open system aquaculture might be augmenting these drivers in each system by utilizing log term in situ data collection and carefully designed observational studies. This work highlights the need for further investigations examining the interconnectivity between the drivers of dissolved oxygen, nitrous oxide, and impacts from commercial aquaculture.</p

Cannabinoids for Sleep: Exploring the Effects of Night-time and Daytime Use

    No full text
This thesis explores the effects of over-the-counter and prescription-level doses of medical cannabis available in Australia on sleep and related mood and daytime performance. Through a systematic review and experimental trials, it investigates the direct impact on night-time sleep in the treatment of insomnia and next day mood and neurocognitive performance. It then explores direct sedative effects and indirect night-time sleep effects when administered during the day in a healthy population. These outcomes from this thesis provide comprehensive insights for the safer use of medicinal cannabis and the improvement of treatment standards, both in Australia and globally.</p

Digital and Data Capabilities for Sexual and Reproductive Health: Final Report

    No full text
‘Digital literacy’ (or ‘digital health literacy’) has been framed as a necessity for sexual and reproductive health consumers who engage with healthcare via digital platforms, from AI chatbots to social media platforms to online- only telehealth clinics, to menstrual trackers. But these terms are often vaguely defined within sexual and reproductive health research.Despite reports of a ‘widening gap’ between the rapid introduction of data-driven digital technologies and practitioner skills and knowledge the question of what digital and data literacy (or capability) looks like for current sexual and reproductive health practitioners remains under-addressed.This report presents findings from the Australian Research Council Future Fellowship Project Digital and Data Capabilities for Sexual and Reproductive Health (2022-2026), which addresses these complex and interconnected challenges via participatory co-design methods. Project outcomes include innovative theoretical and applied frameworks for digital and data capabilities in the context of HIV, sexual health and reproductive health (SRH), including workforce-focused Digital Capabilities and Data Capabilities Models, and a Consumer Capabilities Model. This Report focuses on the development and validation of our central knowledge translation resource: the Creative Commons-licenced DDCRH.com website.Digital and Data Capabilities for Sexual and Reproductive Health project supports:Sexual and reproductive health organisations seeking a shared vocabulary to guide critical strategic discussions around digital and data practices in clinical services, health outreach and advocacy;Sexual and reproductive health leaders and managers who want to understand and plan for the challenges of digital transformation in their organisational contexts and settings;Sexual and reproductive health practitioners building evidence to support digital health communities of practice, and strategic advocacy conversations with organisational leadership; andResearchers undertaking iterative, participatory engagement with community organisations, health consumers and practitioners.</p
