Factors Affecting Users’ Satisfaction with Telehealth Apps: Analysis of Users Reviews using BERT
Get PDFTelehealth mobile apps and telehealth services are increasingly used by patients, particularly, post-COVID-19. This study examines factors related to users’ satisfaction with these apps and services by analyzing reviews from actual telehealth app users. A total of 53,209 reviews were collected from nine telehealth apps on the Google Play store. Using BERT embeddings, UMAP, and HDBSCAN, topics were generated and labeled to identify these factors. Results showed that telehealth app users expressed several factors related to satisfaction with telehealth apps, which could impact the acceptability and adoption of such apps. These include usability (ease of use), usefulness, convenience and efficiency, cost and affordability, technical performance and connectivity, professionalism and expertise, and comprehensive care support

Workforce Training through expert collaboration: Video and Andragogy Integration
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to examine how a video producer and a subject matter expert (SME) collaborate on creating a workforce training video, specifically to ensure that the andragogical intent of the training remains clear throughout production. While research exists on SME-Instructional Designer (ID) partnerships and the effectiveness of video in training, there is limited study on SME and video producer collaboration. This research used an autoethnographic, qualitative approach, involving interviews and reflections, to explore the history and dynamics of a video producer-SME partnership in training video creation. Key findings reveal the importance of understanding expertise, foundational adult learning principles, and effective collaboration for successful outcomes. This study highlights how video and andragogy work in tandem and how balanced collaboration is essential. The adage “a camel is a horse designed by a committee” underscores the risk of a poorly coordinated collaboration leading to ineffective training videos
The teacher mental health crisis: A mixed methods examination of the factors contributing to teacher burnout

This has been an even larger struggle in the education field in recent years because turnover is high, the COVID-19 pandemic, and districts are struggling to find ways to retain teachers to stay in their profession. There are things that administrators and teachers can do to guide districts to ensure that teachers are comfortable in their classrooms and their school campus. There are coping strategies that teachers can do to prevent teacher mental health and burnout and there are ways that administrators can support their teachers to prevent burnout. This study investigates the reasons for teacher burnout and the ways that schools can combat it

Get PDFThis study, titled Silenced Stories: Exposing the Controversial Themes Behind Banned, and Challenged Books, captures the recurring themes of characteristics in books that have been banned or challenged in various contexts. The research dives deep into the cultural and socio-political aspects that target censorship; many of the challenged and banned texts include I Am Jazz, The Lorax, and The Name Jar. The study identifies the common themes that have been perceived as controversial or improper, such as LGBTQ Identities, Cultural Heritage, Stereotypes among children’s books, and Social Justice. These themes have been censorship targets and are examined due to their societal impact and intellectual freedom. “Le nom es el nombre or the last name?” Translanguage Awareness in a French Class for Spanish Speakers
Get PDFThe presentation draws on personal experience teaching French with Spanish as co-language of instruction with majority-Hispanic classes as well as the emergence of a Spanish-centered approach to Romance language instruction at Hispanic-serving institutions primarily in California (Martinez 2014) and more recently in Texas.
Exploring the advantages and difficulties of using Spanish as a “gateway language” (Donato 2018) alongside French in A1-level classes, the presentation will share the experiences of students enrolled in these classes who fall under various categories, including Heritage speakers and bilinguals.
The presentation will use interviews conducted with current and former students to explore the concept of translanguage awareness, drawing on students’ existing proficiency in and use of English, Spanish, and Spanglish to become more conscious of how French is already embedded in and related to their expanding linguistic repertoires

Open pedagogy is a continuous cycle that begins with students as creators of resources that can then serve various purposes in the Spanish classroom. In this presentation, I will show how OER created by SHL students can be adapted to be used by learners of Spanish at different levels.

Open pedagogy (OP) is the practice of supporting students to be creators of open educational resources (OER) to exist beyond the classroom and serve a greater role in the community (Johnston & Stewart, 2020). Spanish as a heritage language (SHL) learners are ideal creators of OER since they have a wealth of linguistic and cultural knowledge and are motivated to give back to the community and share their work. Creating OER empowers SHL students and validates their bilingualism. In the past year, students in SHL classes at a university in Texas produced four OER projects: a news article, a folk story, a persuasive poster, and a movie review. These linguistically and culturally rich materials can be shared with instructors to use in their classes.
As a student who participated in the OER creation process, I was inspired to create lesson plans to accompany the students’ projects and share the lesson plans as another OER, which continues the cycle of OP. In this presentation, I will share these materials and explain how instructors can adapt and use them for a variety of purposes to help learners at various levels. For example, they can be used as supplementary work to focus on a particular area of grammar, a base for students to begin their own projects, exposure to new vocabulary, to promote literacy in Spanish, among others.
The goal of this presentation is to encourage SHL instructors to practice OP in their classrooms by demonstrating the seemingly endless benefits of OER creation for both student creators and users of the materials. Creating OER improves students’ linguistic development and self-confidence, and learners who benefit from those materials can be inspired by similar students using their Spanish in the real world to help others and their communities.

Participants will learn how OER can be modified and used in Spanish instruction at various levels.
Participants will learn about the benefits students receive as creators and consumers of OER.
