Teacher development multi-year studies: Impact of COVID-19 on teaching practices in Lao PDR, Timor-Leste and Vanuatu: A discussion paper for practitioners and policymakers
Get PDFThe COVID-19 pandemic caused significant disruptions to education systems around the world. Many governments responded abruptly, quickly closing schools and transitioning to home learning. This paper explores the impact of extended school closures due to COVID-19 on teaching and student learning in three countries – Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos), Timor-Leste and Vanuatu. This research extends the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)’s multi-year Teacher Development Studies, which are commissioned under the Evaluation Analytics Service (EAS). This study series involves the investigation of DFAT-funded teacher development initiatives in Laos, Timor-Leste and Vanuatu to understand the extent to which the investments have improved teaching quality and student learning. In 2021, regular data collection for the study was extended to include COVID-19 impact questions, thereby providing an opportunity to understand a wide range of education stakeholder perspectives on their experience of transitioning and implementing home learning, the impact on teaching practices and student learning, and the level of support teachers were provided during the pandemic
Fitting the AQF for the future: Revising the AQF architecture and taxonomy
No full textACER has been contracted by the Australian Government Department of Education to explore potential revisions to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) based on recommendations of the AQF Review, which was conducted in 2019. During a range of consultations for the project, the team have presented some options for the architecture and taxonomy of the AQF that would introduce changes suggested by the Review. The slides attached here form the ‘consultation pack’ that have guided the discussions in relation to this project

Confirmatory factor analysis of the Perception of Academic Stress Scale (PAS)
Get PDFStress is a condition that must be experienced by humans, including students. This happens because every student will always be faced with a condition to meet the demands of the environment. Students will experience stress if they feel they do not have the ability to meet these academic demands. Therefore, an instrument is needed that can measure academic stress felt by students. This study aims to test the construct validity of the Perception of Academic Stress Scale (PAS)-Adaptation of Bedewy & Gabriel. Before conducting factor analysis, the adaptation and modification process of the instrument was carried out. The adaptation process was carried out to change the language, from English to Indonesian. The modification process was carried out to adjust the items to the situation and conditions of Indonesian students. The research subjects came from Surabaya State University students, who were in semesters 1, 3 and 5. The validity of the PAS construct was sought using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). To obtain the factors underlying the PAS-Bedewy & Gabriel Adaptation, it was done through 2 stages. Based on the five stages of extraction, 3 supporting theoretical factors were obtained. Factor 1: which relates to perceived academic load, supported by items no. 3, 6, 7 and 8; Factor 2: which relates to examinations, supported by items no. 10 and 11. Factor 3: which relates to confidence in completing assignments or lectures, supported by items no. 5, and 13. The study supports Bedewy & Gabriel\u27s first theoretical construct, which is based on 3 factors namely Factor 1: pressures to perform; Factor 2: perceptions of workload; Factor 3: academic self-perceptions.https://research.acer.edu.au/ical/1004/thumbnail.jp
