Role of annexin A3 in breast cancer (Review)
Annexins are a large group of proteins occurring in numerous cell types. Annexins have roles in events such as coagulation inhibition, endocytosis, exocytosis, signal transduction, proliferation and programmed cell death. The association of annexins with numerous diseases has been reported. There are 12 annexin proteins in total and the association of annexin A3 (ANXA3) with numerous malignant tumor types, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer and colon cancer, has been reported. Studies investigating the relationship between ANXA3 and breast cancer were analyzed in the present review and it was observed that ANXA3 is expressed at higher levels in breast cancer cells. Furthermore, high ANXA3 levels are a poor prognostic factor, increase the invasion ability of breast cancer cells and may be a novel therapeutic target
The effects of dexamethasone and minocycline alone and combined with N-acetylcysteine and vitamin E on serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 and coenzyme Q10 levels in aflatoxin B1 administered rats
This study aimed to determine the effects of dexamethasone and minocycline alone and combined treatment with N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and vitamin E on serum coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) levels in rats administered aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). The study was carried out on 66 male Wistar rats. Following the intraperitoneal (IP) administration of AFB1 at dose of 2 mg/kg, minocycline (45 and 90 mg/kg, IP) and dexamethasone (5 and 20 mg/kg, IP) were administered alone and combined with NAC (200 mg/kg, IP) and vitamin E (600 mg/kg, IP). CoQ10 and MMP-9 levels were analyzed using the HPLC-UV method and a commercial kit by ELISA, respectively. AFB1 increased MMP-9 level and decreased CoQ10 level compared to the control group. After dexamethasone and minocycline administration, there is no increase in CoQ10 level, which is caused by AFB1. However, dexamethasone and mino-cycline combined with NAC+vitamin E caused significant increases in CoQ10 levels. Dexamethasone and minocycline alone and combined with NAC+vitamin E decreased MMP-9 levels compared to the single AFB1 treated group. The use of MMPs inhibitors and oxidative stress-reducing agents is anticipated to be beneficial in the poisoning with AFB1.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [215O397]This study was supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK, 215O397) and presented in abstract form on the I. Open and Distance Learning Vision of Higher Education Institutions in Turkey: Implications for Leadership
The current study investigated the open and distance learning vision of higher education institutions in Turkey and revealed several implications for leadership. Considering the potential overlap between vision and mission statements, both of the statements used by 82 units within higher education institutions were qualitatively investigated through content analysis. The findings first revealed that the vision statements of the units cover all system levels from technology to the broader socioeconomic context. Improving quality is the most underlined statement, followed by becoming a leading institution and enabling equity and access. On the other hand, it was observed that there is an overlap between their vision and mission statements, and many of the academic units use similar statements. Based on these findings, several implications were reported for effective leadership in open and distance learning. Although this study encompassed only the context of a specific country, it provided implications for leadership in various contexts

Riemannian submersions endowed with a semi-symmetric metric connection
In this paper we investigate Riemannian submersions from a Riemannian manifold with a semisymmetric metric connection onto a Riemannian manifold. We obtain O'Neill's tensor fields for semi-symmetric metric connection. We show that this tensors are not skew symmetric. We obtain derivatives of those tensor fields and compare curvatures of the total manifold, the base manifold and the fibres by computing curvatures

Design: Prospective cross-sectional study Setting: Secondary care hospital Subjects: Forty-six patients (32 male, 14 female) who were diagnosed as mild-to-severe OSA (apnea hypopnea index >= 5 events/h) and control group consisted of 35 healthy subjects (18 male, 17 female) Intervention: Polysomnography, blood samples and transthoracic echocardiograhy (TTE) were evaluated Main outcome measures: TTE was used to evaluate echocardiographic changes, AEMD and 4C-LS Results: Left ventricle end-diastolic and end-systolic diameter, interventricular septum and posterior wall thickness were significantly higher; left ventricular ejection fraction and Ea/Aa mitral ratio were lower; right ventricle basal, mid and vertical diameters, Emax, Amax, and Ea tricuspid, tricuspid regurgitan velocity, systolic pulmonary artery pressure, and systolic motion tricuspid were significantly higher in the OSA group. Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) was significantly lower and AEMD lateral/tricuspid, lateral/mitral and septal were significantly higher in the OSA group. Mid anterolateral, apicolateral, apex, apical septal strains and 4C-LS were decreased significantly in the OSA group Conclusion: Right-left ventricular systolic-diastolic functions were impaired in patients with OSA. In these patients, apical 4C-LS was lower and AEMD was prolonged
Comparison of the antioxidant activities and major constituents of three Hypericum species (H. perforatum, H. scabrum and H. origanifolium) from Turkey
Total phenolic content, antioxidant activity, and the main constituents of three Hypericum species (H. perforatum, H. scabrum, and H. origanifolium) from Turkey had been investigated in this study. The quantification of main constituents (hypericin, and pseudohypericin) was performed by HPLC. The aerial parts of the plant extracts were screened in terms of their total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activity tests including DPPH (2,2 diphenyl 1-picrylhdrazyl) radical scavenging activity, trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), ferric cyanide reducing (FRAP) antioxidant power assay, and total antioxidant activity by ferricthiocyanate (FTC). The highest TPC value (148.31 +/- 4.57 mg GAE/g DW) was obtained for H. scabrum (HS) while H. perforatum (HP) extract had the highest hypericin (9.57 +/- 0.07 mg/mL), and pseudohypericin (7.82 +/- 0.05 mg/mL) amount. All Hypericum species demonstrated stronger DPPH activities than the standard compounds butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and ascorbic acid (AA) with the values of IC50 < 3.8 mg/mL. The highest trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) value (11.28 +/- 0.28) was achieved with HO. Considerable values were obtained for HS (90.25 +/- 0.05), HP (90.20 +/- 0.07), and HO (88.42 +/- 0.02) by total antioxidant determination using ferricthiocyanate (FTC) method with 2 days incubation. This study reveals that all Hypericum species are good sources of natural antioxidants with high TPC and major constituent contents. (C)& nbsp;2021 SAAB. Published by Elsevier B.V. Determination of Flight Activities and Populations of Ambrosia Beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) In Hazelnut Orchards in Samsun, Türkiye
Ambrosia beetles are highly invasive pests that cause thousands of hazelnut branches to dry out in hazelnut orchards each year. The manegement against these pests in hazelnut orchards, first of all, it is necessary to know the time of emergence of these pests during the year and the dates when their populations are concentrated. Between 2017-2019, studies were carried out in the Çarşamba and Terme districts of Samsun, which play an important role in hazelnut production in Türkiye. Populations of three invasive ambrosia beetle species (Anisandrus dispar, Xylosandrus germanus and Xyleborinus saxesenii) in hazelnut orchards were monitored using sticky traps for three years, from mid-March to mid-October. A. dispar, adults started to emerge in mid-March, their populations increased in April-May and started to decrease from mid-June. The emergence of X. germanus adults began in April, their populations peaked in late May and early June, and then the population began to decline. There was also a slight increase in their population in August. The emergence of X. saxesenii adults began in late March and a slight increase in their population was observed at the end of April. Populations of this species increased significantly in late June and early July, with a slight increase in populations in August. When these three ambrosia beetle species, which were caught in red sticky traps in hazelnut orchards for three years, were compared, the catch rates were determined as 56.28% for A. dispar, 24.20% for X. germanus and 19.52% for X. saxesenii, respectively. Thanks to this information obtained, it was determined when to start the combat against these pests in hazelnut orchards and when the management should be done most intensely
Factors affecting recurrence in subacute granulomatous thyroiditis
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the factors affecting recurrence in subacute granulomatous thyroiditis (SAT). Materials and methods: A total of 137 patients with SAT were enrolled in the study; 98 (71.5%) were women and 39 (28.5%) were men. The patients received either steroid or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for eight weeks. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein, serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine, free thyroxine (FT4), anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies and thyroglobulin antibodies, neutrophil, lymphocyte, platelet, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, and platelet to lymphocyte ratio levels were evaluated. In addition, recurrence rates were compared between patients who received NSAID treatment and those who received steroid therapy. Results: Treatment modality and pretreatment TSH, FT4, and ESR were significantly different between patients with and without recurrence (p = 0.011, 0.001, 0.004, and 0.026, respectively). Compared with patients without recurrence, those with recurrence had higher pretreatment TSH levels, but lower FT4 and ESR levels. On logistic regression analysis, treatment modality was found to be an independent risk factor for recurrence. The risk of recurrence was higher in those taking steroids than in those taking NSAIDs (p = 0.015).The optimal TSH cutoff value for recurrence was 0.045 mu IU/mL, with a sensitivity of 83.3% and specificity of 76% (AUC 0.794, 95% CI 0.639-0.949). Conclusions: The risk of SAT recurrence was higher with steroid therapy than with NSAIDs. Patients who had mild thyrotoxicosis had relatively high recurrence rate and may need a relatively longer duration of treatment
Thermodynamic Analysis of Kalina Cycle with TI-PTES System
3rd International Conference on Emerging Research in Civil, Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering, ERCAM 2021 -- 16 December 2021 through 17 December 2021 -- -- 184730The fact that the energy produced by renewable sources cannot be consumed instantaneously has brought energy storage systems to the fore. Due to its low cost and ease of use, the thermally integrated pumped thermal energy storage (TI-PTES) system is widely used. In this study, unlike the literature, the Kaline cycle with TI-PTES system was investigated thermodynamically. In the system analysis, heat pump, evaporator and hot tank temperatures were selected as variable parameters and their effects on system performance were examined. The results showed that the system efficiency increases with the increase in evaporator temperature but the increase in hot tank temperature significantly reduces the system efficiency. © 2022 American Institute of Physics Inc..
