    Impact of self-awareness life skill on effective leadership in the digital era

    The main drive of this study remained toward investigate the influence of self-awareness life skills on leadership effectiveness in the certain enterprises in the Kathmandu area in the digital era and also associated socio-demographic variables on leadership effectiveness. The study included a quantitative research design and convenience sampling techniques. 429 managers/leaders from particular enterprises in the Kathmandu participated in the survey. The identities of the chosen enterprises weren't publicly disclosed, though. Self-awareness is measured by the Cronbach Alpha at.747, while leadership effectiveness is measured at.801. A content validity test and a factor analysis test were also carried out, with the results recommending a research study. Descriptive analysis and regression analysis were applied to test the hypothesis. The study found that life-skill self-awareness and leadership effectiveness in the digital age were impacted. Agreeing to the regression model, the R-value is.477, the R-square is.227, and the adjusted R-square value is.226. A positive correlation between successful leadership and people's age, marital status, experience, and leadership training was discovered to be significant. Enterprise authority should be developed with a culture of self-awareness skills in order to increase empowerment, engagement, and enthusiasm at work. Evidence suggests that it can be developed

Background Numerous studies imply that oxidative stress is associated with TL but rarely directly assay oxidative damage in telomeric DNA. We used a mouse model to demonstrate telomere specific oxidative stress and its effects on TL, in a range of tissues. These mice have a naturally occurring Nnt deficiency.     A Coxsackievirus B1-mediated nonlytic extracellular vesicle-to-cell mechanism of virus transmission and its possible control through modulation of EV release

    Like most non-enveloped viruses, CVB1 mainly uses cell lysis to spread. Details of a nonlytic virus transmission remain unclear. Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) transfer biomolecules between cells. We show that CVB1 entry into HeLa cells results in apoptosis and release of CVB1-induced 'medium-sized' EVs (CVB1-mEVs). These mEVs (100-300 nm) harbour CVB1 as shown by immunoblotting with anti-CVB1-antibody; viral capsids were detected by transmission electron microscopy and RT-PCR revealed CVB1 RNA. The percentage of mEVs released from CVB1-infected HeLa cells harbouring virus was estimated from TEM at 34 %. Inhibition of CVB1-mEV production, with calpeptin or siRNA knockdown of in HeLa cells limited spread of CVB1 suggesting these vesicles disseminate CVB1 virions to new host cells by a nonlytic EV-to-cell mechanism. This was confirmed by detecting CVB1 virions inside HeLa cells after co-culture with CVB1-mEVs; EV release may also prevent apoptosis of infected cells whilst spreading apoptosis to secondary sites of infection

    Room temperature operated PEDOT: PSS based flexible and disposable NO2 gas sensor

    This work presents a flexible and disposable nitrogen dioxide (NO2) gas sensor based on Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), operating at room temperature (RT). The gas sensing layer, composed of PEDOT:PSS, is deposited on interdigitated electrodes (IDEs) made from graphene–carbon ink, which are screen printed onto a paper substrate using the drop casting method. The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses are carried out to understand the successful deposition and surface morphology analysis of the sensing layer. The NO 2 sensing properties are explored in the range 0.5–50 ppm at RT (27 °C ± 2 °C). The sensor displays significant % response viz., 0.79%–12.97% in the measured range 0.5–50 ppm. Other important sensing characteristics, such as response and recovery times (210 s / 60 s at 0.5 ppm), repeatability, and reproducibility along with sensing mechanism are also presented. The findings of this letter suggest that the developed sensor holds promise for various application areas

    The impact of corporate social responsibility on construction workers

    The UK construction industry is one of the largest employers in the UK providing 8% of the national workforce in 2018 (Kotera et al, 2019), although a small number of those workers are employed directly. In the industry it is common for main contractors to be employed by the client, and then to subcontract out the work to a supply chain of subcontractors, who may further outsource the work to subbies and agency workers. This results in a fragmented employment structure with an indirect employment relationship between the contractor and workers on the construction sites. Employees are considered to be a corporation’s stakeholder and one of the key elements of corporate social responsibility. This study explores the impact of corporate social responsibility on construction workers who may not be considered employees as they are indirectly employed and resourced through the fragmented employment structure. This method of employment is also termed casual labour which for this study includes subcontractors, self-employment and agency workers. The industry has been considered to be slow in embracing corporate social responsibility despite the industry’s significant impact on society, and where contractors do adopt corporate social responsibility as a policy, they have often used different approaches and different terminology as demonstrated by the five largest contractors (in 2019). This makes it more complex to pass policies and standards down the supply chain who will often move from contractor to contractor for work. This study is inclusive of primary data in the form of interviews which took place between 2017 and 2020, in addition to the research of secondary data sourced through the review of literature and documentary evidence. Participants for the interviews were identified as workers from each element of the supply chain from the client, client advisors, contractor, subcontractor and subbies to gain a view on the impact of corporate social responsibility on workers to compare and contrast with secondary data

    The impact of evolving SARS-CoV-2 mutations and variants on COVID-19 vaccines

    The emergence of several new variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in recent months has raised concerns around the potential impact on ongoing vaccination programs. Data from clinical trials and real-world evidence suggest that current vaccines remain highly effective against the alpha variant (B.1.1.7), while some vaccines have reduced efficacy and effectiveness against symptomatic disease caused by the beta variant (B.1.351) and the delta variant (B.1.617.2); however, effectiveness against severe disease and hospitalization caused by delta remains high. Although data on the effectiveness of the primary regimen against omicron (B.1.1.529) are limited, booster programs using mRNA vaccines have been shown to restore protection against infection and symptomatic disease (regardless of the vaccine used for the primary regimen) and maintain high effectiveness against hospitalization. However, effectiveness against infection and symptomatic disease wanes with time after the booster dose. Studies have demonstrated reductions of varying magnitude in neutralizing activity of vaccine-elicited antibodies against a range of SARS-CoV-2 variants, with the omicron variant in particular exhibiting partial immune escape. However, evidence suggests that T-cell responses are preserved across vaccine platforms, regardless of variant of concern. Nevertheless, various mitigation strategies are under investigation to address the potential for reduced efficacy or effectiveness against current and future SARS-CoV-2 variants, including modification of vaccines for certain variants (including omicron), multivalent vaccine formulations, and different delivery mechanisms

    Factors that contribute to hIAPP amyloidosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus

    Cases of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) are increasing at an alarming rate due to the rise in obesity, sedentary lifestyles, glucose-rich diets and other factors. Numerous studies have increasingly illustrated the pivotal role that human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) plays in the pathology of T2DM through damage and subsequent loss of pancreatic β-cell mass. HIAPP can misfold and form amyloid fibrils which are preceded by pre-fibrillar oligomers and monomers, all of which have been linked, to a certain extent, to β-cell cytotoxicity through a range of proposed mechanisms. This review provides an up-to-date summary of recent progress in the field, highlighting factors that contribute to hIAPP misfolding and aggregation such as hIAPP protein concentration, cell stress, molecular chaperones, the immune system response and cross-seeding with other amyloidogenic proteins. Understanding the structure of hIAPP and how these factors affect amyloid formation will help us better understand how hIAPP misfolds and aggregates and, importantly, help identify potential therapeutic targets for inhibiting amyloidosis so alternate and more effective treatments for T2DM can be developed

When discussing a project or a place, we architects will often pick up a pencil and absent-mindedly sketch, or draw a diagram on the nearest piece of paper. It helps us think. Although something of a parody of the starchitect genius at work, the well-worn motif of the ‘napkin sketch’ or ‘back of the envelope’ vignette is a reality for many. But for the architects brought into dialogue by this book – Julia King, Paulo Moreira, Elisa Silva – the creative act neither starts nor stops at the table. They are first and foremost practitioners who do their practising in real places, lived contexts, with others, over a period of time. There is usually a ‘plan’ and there may be many sketches, but both the form and progress of the project are inevitably subject to change

    How do Instagram’s clean-eating hashtags influence Orthorexia Nervosa and the sense of self in self-identified Orthorexia Nervosa tendencies: a mixed methods study

    Background/aims: Orthorexia Nervosa (ON) involves an obsessional preoccupation with food perceived as healthy (Moroze et al., 2015). Several studies have found those with ON behaviours are particularly active on Instagram. At the time of writing, no research has addressed how those who self-identify as having ON engage with or are engaged by Instagram’s clean-eating hashtags, nor how individuals who self-identify as having ON experience their sense of self whilst using Instagram. Design/method: A frequency scale, designed to capture engagement with clean-eating hashtags on Instagram, the ORTO-15, and a demographic questionnaire were completed by 104 females who self-identify as having ON and use Instagram. A Spearman correlation was calculated to examine the relationship between ON symptoms and engagement with clean-eating hashtags. Eight participants who scored in the top 40% of the measures were interviewed using a semi-structured process. Verbatim accounts were analysed using thematic analysis. Findings: A statistically significant relationship between individuals who are engaged with clean-eating hashtags and higher levels of ON symptoms was found. Through thematic analysis, four themes were generated: ‘Regulating Self-Worth Symbolically’ (which refers to how the participants regulate their sense of self-worth through Instagram), ‘Finding Meaning & Purpose’ (which discusses how the participant's self-worth and self-esteem are fulfilled through ON behaviours), ‘Repeating Negative Cycles’ (which describes how the participants’ sense of Self is negatively impacted through cycles they find themselves in), ‘Negotiation of a Different Relationship with Lifestyle’ (which refers to the participants’ relationship with changing their ON behaviours). Conclusions: The quantitative aspect of this study concluded there is a positive relationship between individuals who are engaged with clean-eating hashtags on Instagram and higher levels of ON tendencies. The qualitative findings highlight that individuals with ON symptoms find their sense of self is negatively impacted by Instagram and engage in behaviours on and off the platform to improve their low self-esteem, self-worth, and protect their ego. It, therefore, provides an improved understanding of the development and maintenance of ON. Clinically, the study provides evidence that clinicians can utilise an integrative approach with CBT-E and object-relations theory
