    Pre and Post Breeding Morphometric Profile of European Rabbit (Oryctolagus Cuniculus)

    After 1950s, a continuous decline in the population of Oryctolagus cuniculus has urged the IUCN to declare it an endangered species. There is a serious need to take conservational steps for Oryctolagus cuniculus breeds by research work on their different morphological and physiological aspects. The current study evaluates the growth of European rabbit through morphometric profile at pre breeding, post 1st breeding and post 2nd breeding stages in order to find out the growth trends of the European rabbits at different breeding stages. The studied sample comprised of 42 pairs for each breed (New Zealand White and American Dutch) of different ages regarding their breeding. Seven morphometric parameters (Weight, Forelimb Length, Ear Length, Full Body Length, Body Diameter, Hind Limb Length, and Tail Length) are selected for the study. Data was analyzed through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and ANOVA statistical tools. PCA revealed the weight component with the highest eigenvalue (16.9567) and percentage variance of 99.777 % till post 2nd breeding. The ANOVA results revealed a non-significant difference between the growth rates of both breeds till post 2nd breeding. Morphometric profile presented a positive correlation till post 2nd breeding. The study traces the growth attributes of rabbits in a semi-domestic environment

    A Review on Bioremediation of Heavy Metals and Hydrocarbons through Plant Growth-Promoting Bacteria and Composting

    Soil is an important ecosystem component; it serves as a habitat for many microscopic organisms that play an important role in the ecosystem\u27s maintenance and crops grown in soil. Unfortunately, human activities have adversely affected not only the environment but also the soil health. Soil has been contaminated with heavy metals hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon-based products that are affecting soil health and the growth of plants. In this review two methods of heavy metal remediation are discussed; one is the role of plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) in the enhancement of phytoremediation and the other is composting. PGPB help plants to grow better by providing them with nutrients, in turn, these plants play a role in the phytoremediation of heavy metals. In composting, targeted pollutants like petroleum products, pesticides, and chlorophenols are decayed by the action of microorganisms present. The use of PGPB provides an efficient and pollution free solution for the removal of heavy metals from soil, reviving its properties, while composting results in the mineralization of different hydrocarbons and the minerals also become the part of soil increasing its health. Likewise, these techniques are helpful in the removal of harmful organic and inorganic pollutants from soil and reviving it

    Mathematical models of learning and retention have long been developed in psychology for both basic and applied research. For basic research, models of learning and retention attempt to explain how individuals acquire and retain information over time. While for applied research, models of learning and retention are used to inform education and training decisions. In both of these applications, the primary purpose of using a model is to fit and predict the performance of individuals. However, little attention has been paid to the interpretation of a model’s free parameters (i.e., learning and decay rates) and the effect that a model’s formulation has on the inferences that can be made from a model’s estimated parameter values. Particular model formulations, such as having units on different terms or nested equations, can lead to correlations between a model’s free parameters, which limit their theoretical interpretation. These limitations have been identified in one model of learning and retention in particular, the Predictive Performance Equation (PPE). In this dissertation, I propose and evaluate an alternative version of the PPE (Modified PPE), which simplifies and decreases the correlation of its free parameters compared to the Standard PPE. A large-scale model comparison was conducted across nine different historical datasets, comparing both models’ ability to fit, predict behavior, and make inferences about particular characteristics of an individual\u27s learning behavior from each model’s estimated parameters. The results of this dissertation show that the Modified PPE when compared to the Standard PPE can both calibrate and predict to a similar degree as the Standard PPE. However, the Modified PPE decreases the correlation between its free parameters, allowing parameters to map onto particular aspects of performance across a majority of datasets. These results show how models of learning and retention can be improved to allow for a more meaningful interpretation of an individual’s performance, having implications for both psychological theory and applied application

    Evaluation and Modulation of the Circadian Clock in Human Keratinocytes and Epidermal Skin

    The circadian clock is a fundamental biological mechanism that regulates various physiological processes, including DNA repair, to synchronize with the day-night cycle. In human skin, exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light poses a significant challenge, inducing DNA damage that must be efficiently repaired to maintain genomic integrity and prevent carcinogenesis. This study delved into the complex interplay between the circadian clock, UV light exposure, DNA repair, and modulation of circadian transcriptional machinery in human skin. Initially, we examined the transcriptomic profile of the circadian clock in humans through in silico-based approaches and in vivo studies, revealing that core clock gene expression and downstream clock-controlled genes are influenced by factors such as age, sex, and UV exposure. Recognizing the potential to modify circadian clock output, we employed REV-ERB antagonist SR8278 and cryptochrome inhibitor KS15 to enhance clock function, thereby facilitating increased output of downstream processes like DNA repair. In our ex vivo model system, we found that SR8278 and KS15 were able to increase both the RNA and protein levels of ARNTL, XPA, and Wee1, as well as being able to decrease the amount of UV-induced apoptosis in some individuals. In keratinocytes in vitro, we found that treatment with SR8278 and KS15 led to significant increases in survival when exposed to UVB, but led to significant toxicity under UVA lights. Furthermore, we were able to modestly increase expression of ARNTL, XPA, Wee1 and p21 at the RNA and protein levels. However, we found that these increases did not translate to increased nucleotide excision repair capacity. Rather, we determined that the compounds are absorbing wavelengths of UV light and preventing damage formation initially. Further investigations are warranted to elucidate the precise mechanism of action of SR8278 and KS15 in modulating circadian clock function. Nevertheless, this study lays the groundwork for future research exploring the therapeutic potential of leveraging the circadian clock to address various pathophysiological skin conditions

    Enhancing Patient’s Perceptions of Cesarean Indications Through Teach-Back Methods

    Introduction Cesarean section (C-section) deliveries are on the rise, with an increase from 23.5% in the 1990s to 32.2% in 2022. Research has shown that poor communication by health care providers can lead to negative outcomes. Patients’ understanding of their C-section indications has significant implications for their future obstetric health. Therefore, interventions are needed to ensure optimal communication between providers and patients to improve outcomes. Materials and Methods Sixty-eight participants were enrolled and randomized into traditional counseling or teach-back intervention groups. Phone interviews were used to capture data at 2 weeks and 6 months postoperatively. Chi square and Fisher’s Exact tests were used to assess discordance rates between the indication reported in the EMR and the patient recollection of the reason for their C-section. Results During their hospital stay, 32.3% of patients were noted to have discordant reporting of their reason for C-section compared to documented reason. At the 2-week mark, patients in the teach-back group demonstrated lower discordance compared to the control group (6.3% vs 23.5%, respectively). Results were not significant in identifying racial disparities in patient reporting of documented C-section reason. Participant comments provided qualitative insights into their experiences. Conclusion This study suggests that the teach-back intervention may have short-term benefits in improving patient reporting of C-section indications. This research contributes to ongoing efforts to reduce health disparities, emphasizing the importance of tailored communication strategies in maternal healthcare

    Feed Nutritional Quality in the Panicum Maximum and Chloris Gayana Grasses

    Globally, freshwater scarcity and deterioration of groundwater quantity and quality are becoming more of a problem. The number of crops that can be effectively cultivated is limited because of the effects. The improved pasture species, Panicum maximum and Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana), have been progressively farmed due to its high dry matter production, favourable cultivation economics, and superiority over other grasses. This aspect needs a thorough understanding of the feed quality of various grasses. The primary goal of this review is to judge the quality and quantity of C. gayana and P. maximum. Total dry matter yield, Crop growth (CG) and mean of the growth rate with plant height were highest in P. maximum while lowest in C. gayana. Crude protein (CP %) was higher in Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) i.e., 6.73 % followed by Rhodes grass (C. gayana) (6.67 %) and Finger grass (Digitaria swazilandensis) (6.20 %). C. gayana achieved the highest total digestible nutrients (57.82 %) than P. maximum

    The Shortage of Primary Care Physicians in the United States, its Impact on Health Outcomes, and Rationale for Potential Solutions

    Purpose: In the United States there is a growing shortage of primary care physicians that has the potential to negatively impact health outcomes of the general population. In this study, we aim to explore this potential impact by investigating the relationship between the primary care physician to patient ratio, a representation of the shortage, and various health outcomes. Methods: The data for this study was collected from County Health Rankings and the variables included were the primary care physician to patient ratio, several health outcome variables looking at both length and quality of life, and the other primary care provider to patient ratio, which examines a potential solution. Results: We found that in Ohio the primary care physician to patient ratio increased by 233.15 from 2016 to 2022, which was statistically significant (t = -2.023, p = 0.046). After performing spearman correlations, we found that all health outcome variables had a positive correlation with the primary care physician to patient ratio. Among these several were statistically significant, including a strong and significant correlation (r = 0.741, p = 0.002) between the primary care physician to patient ratio and the percentage of adults with obesity. We also determined there was a statistically significant increase in the percentage of patients reporting fair or poor health from 2016 to 2022. Conclusion: With an increase in primary care physician to ratio from 2016 to 2022 and a clear relationship with many of the health outcome variables, it is clear that the primary care physician shortage exists and needs to be addressed to prevent negative health outcomes. Further analysis and assessment of the shortage and its impact should be performed because this is an issue that could have nationwide implications

    Assessing Socioeconomic Patterns of Excessive Alcohol Consumption in Ohio: A County-Level Analysis

    Background: Excessive alcohol consumption poses significant public health challenges, with complex socioeconomic factors influencing drinking behaviors. Understanding the relationship between socioeconomic determinants and excessive drinking patterns at the state and county levels is crucial for informing targeted interventions. Objective: To investigate the associations between excessive drinking (binge or heavy drinking) and socioeconomic factors, including median household income, mental health provider availability, health insurance coverage, educational attainment, and unemployment rates across counties in Ohio. Methods: We analyzed data from the 2023 County Health Rankings for 88 counties in Ohio. Spearman correlations were used to assess associations between excessive drinking and socioeconomic variables. Paired t-tests examined changes in excessive drinking from 2016 to 2022. Linear regression determined predictors of excessive drinking in 2022.
