Concealed Carry Legislation and Firearm-Related Deaths in the United States: Possible Causes and Ramifications
Background: Previous research has shown that there is not an association between the legislation of constitutional carry and firearm deaths, but rather it is predominantly associated with socioeconomic status and location. On the national scale, the factors that most significantly affected firearm related deaths, firearm homicides, and firearm suicides were partisan lean, urbanization, and poverty rate over these three categories. Concealed carry legislation was not significantly associated with deaths. Objective: We are looking at whether the passage of constitutional carry laws have impacts on the rates of firearm-related deaths or violent crime across states. Important variables we are considering include the aforementioned rates of death and crime as well as potential confounding variables such as socioeconomic status, high school completion and unemployment rate. Methods: Data was collected from County Health Rankings published for 2016 and 2022. Results: When looking at correlations of factors such as median household income, completion of high school, and unemployment rate, all correlations were found to be significant. Discussion: While these factors were found to be significant, they were not able to fully explain firearm fatalities in states that have enacted constitutional carry laws. Conclusion: Our findings support the hypothesis that states that enacted constitutional carry (CC) laws experienced higher rates of firearm-related mortality compared to those without such laws
Impact of Bypass Fat Supplementation on Milk Production and Weight Gain in Nili Ravi Buffaloes Under Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa\u27s Geo-Climatic Conditions
This study was conducted to examine the effect of bypass fat supplementation on milk production, composition, and body weight gain in Nili Ravi Buffaloes living in the unique geo-climatic conditions of Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Twenty lactating Nili Ravi buffaloes were randomly assigned to control and bypass fat supplementation groups in randomized, controlled experiment. Over the course of three months, data were collected on milk yield, milk composition, and body weight while environmental factors were considered. The bypass fat group gained significantly more weight on average than the control (p\u3c0.05), which gained 4.75 kg. In addition, milk yield in bypass fat group increased to the average of 13.15 liters, compared to 10.4 liters in the control (p\u3c0.05). The percentage of milk fat in supplemented group was 7.35 percent, compared to 6.79 percent in the control (p\u3c0.05). Lactose concentrations were significantly higher in the bypass fat group (p\u3c0.05), whereas proteins, solid-not-fat, and total solids were statistically comparable between the two groups (p\u3e0.05). Bypass fat supplementation can substantially increase milk production, milk fat content, and weight gain in Nili Ravi buffaloes from southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This strategy could provide dairy farming in the region with prospective advantages in terms of animal health and economic returns
Maximizing Growth and Yield Of Black Seed (Nigella Sativa L) through Optimized Phosphorus and Boron Levels
Improper nutrient management cause yield reduction in black seed yield and quality. Therefore, a field trial was executed in the growing season 2022-23 at The University of Agriculture Peshawar to inspect the effects of different phosphorus (P) and boron (B) levels on black seed (Nigella sativa L.). The experiment used a randomized complete block design with a split-plot arrangement, replicated thrice. The study examined four P levels (0, 15, 30, and 45 kg/ha) and four B levels (0, 1, 2, and 3 mg/L) on various growth and yield parameters of black seed. Plots treated with 45 kg/ha of P exhibited the taller plants (37.00 cm), more branches (16.60), larger leaf area (128.30 cm²), longest roots (10.00 cm), highest levels of chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids (1.80, 1.30 and 1.10 mg/g) compared to control. 45 kg/ha P also produced maximum flowers/plant (23.10), capsules/plant (22.80), seeds/plant (1325.50), thousand-seed weight (2.80 g), and the maximum seed yield (255.30 kg/ha). Similarly, plants treated with 3 mg/L of B had the tallest plants (33.60 cm), more branches (15.90), leaf area (128.20 cm²), longest roots (8.70 cm), chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids (1.40, 1.20 and 1.00 mg/g), more flowers/plant (21.30), capsules/plant (20.70), seeds/capsule (58.70), seeds/plant (1193.60), the heaviest thousand-seed weight (2.70 g) and the maximum seed yield (255.30 kg/ha). Moreover, significant association was prominent between growth and yield components with seed yield of black seed under different treatments. Therefore, it was concluded that the best growth and yield for black seed were observed with fertilization of 45 kg/ha of P and 3 mg/L of B

Developing Dispositions for Transfer: First-Generation Writers as Problem-Solvers
This article suggests pedagogical practices to help first-generation students gain effective problem-solving strategies for the future transfer of writing knowledge and skills. The retention of first-generation students depends on developing four positive dispositions for learning: success attribution, self-efficacy, expectancy value, and self-regulation. Meaningful writing assignments with a connection to students\u27 cultural experiences are an essential foundation for improving transfer. Specific reflective activities are detailed for analyzing emotional reactions to writing experiences, evaluating procedural writing strategies, and solving current and future writing-related problems. A reflective problem-solving pedagogy promotes deep learning by emphasizing students\u27 agency in responding to writing difficulties and their resourcefulness in creating successful solution
Associations Between the Lived Environment and Health Markers in Ohio Counties
Environmental exposures have known to be associated with poor health outcomes in adults, however there is scarce literature on which exposures that are county-specific influence health outcomes in the state of Ohio. There are known longitudinal effects of the environment on a person’s physical and mental health and demonstrated correlations could have the potential to improve health outcomes of those living in communities disproportionately impacted by environmental stressors. Through a retrospective review using County Health Rankings and the defined parameters of rurality, we looked at various measures of environmental exposures and living conditions and their effect on diabetes rates, chlamydia rates, and the number of poor physical and mental health days in each of Ohio’s rural and non-rural counties. Major findings with possible clinical implications from this study include a negative correlation between chlamydia rates and county rurality (Spearman’s ρ = -0.61), significant increases in severe housing rates(p = 0.012), daily average air pollution levels (p = 0.014), and chlamydia rates (p \u3c 0.001, 95% CI for difference in means [68.46 - 170.53]).) in non-rural counties compared to their rural counterparts. Additionally, mental health was not found to be meaningfully different between the three county types. This review stresses the importance of providing greater environmental equity on a local and statewide level

A Study into Exercise and Obesity on Diabetes in Ohio, Colorado, and Mississippi
Type 2 diabetes has become an epidemic in the US adult population, with its prevalence increasing every year. The disease is associated with physical inactivity and obesity. Like other lifestyle diseases, type 2 diabetes is preventable and manageable. Previous studies have shown that exercise plays an important role in diabetes treatment. In this study, we aimed to investigate relationships among obesity rate, access to exercise opportunities, and diabetes prevalence in Ohio, Colorado, and Mississippi by analyzing County Health Rankings data of the three states from 2016 and 2022. Our results showed associations among obesity rate, access to exercise opportunities, and diabetes prevalence in all three states. When comparing data from 2016 and 2022, we observed consistent increases in obesity rate in these states. While access to exercise opportunities remained high in Colorado, there were significant decreases both in Ohio and in Mississippi from 2016 to 2022. Surprisingly, there was no significant increase in diabetes prevalence in any of the states. Future studies should aim to investigate other factors affecting diabetes prevalence in the three states. In particular, types and duration of physical activity on diabetes management should be further studied in order to draw more meaningful conclusions. Diet, cultural differences, and other environmental factors should be considered as well
