MEDIA IDEOLOGICAL REPRESENTATION IN FRAMING THE BAJONESE IN TOROSIAJE VILLAGE, POHUWATO DISTRICT
Media can frame differently on the same object. The framing is heavily influenced by the ideology adopted by the media. The purpose of this research is to analyze the representation of media ideology in framing the Bajonese in Torosiaje Village, Pohuwato Regency. The data for this study are in the form of vocabulary, phrases and sentences that reflect ideology in framing the Bajonese from three online mass media, namely kompas.com, mongabay.co.id, and lipunaratif.com. The data collected was analyzed using van Dijk's critical discourse analysis. The framing analysis of the three media was carried out on the aspects of micro structure, super structure and macro structure. The results of the analysis show that the three media analyzed frame the Bajonese differently. Kompas.com frames the Bajonese from the aspect of its uniqueness; mongabay.co.id frames the Bajonese from the aspect of the Bajonese's closeness to nature and the way the Bajonese preserves nature; and lipunaratif.com frame the Bajonese from an economic aspect. Kompas.com and mongabay.co.id rate the Bajonese positively, while lipunaratif.com evaluates the Bajonese negatively. This assessment is related to the desired behavior change by text producers through the framing that is done
POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED BY DONALD TRUMP AND JOE BIDEN IN THE U.S. 2020 FINAL PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
This study aims at determining the types of politeness strategies used by and the sociological variables influencing the candidates, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, in the U.S. 2020 Final Presidential Debate. This study also used the theory of Brown and Levinson (1987). This study used the U.S. 2020 final presidential debate video as the source of data. The video was uploaded on YouTube on October 22, 2020. The data were the speaker’s utterances containing politeness strategies. The results of the study revealed that the two candidates used various politeness strategies in the debate. There were 42 data obtained from the statements of the candidates who used the politeness strategy. The most widely used strategy by the two candidates is positive politeness. Then, negative politeness, off record, and bald on record respectively. Meanwhile, the use of politeness strategy by the candidates is influenced by social distance (D) and absolute ranking (R) of impositions
Hermeutical Analysis on Ibn Arabi's Poems
The purpose of this research was to analyze or interpret Ibn Arabi’s poems on Tarjuman Al-ashwaq. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis, by analyzing poems with a hermeneutic approach. This abstract explores the use of hermeneutical analysis in interpreting the poems of Ibn Arabi, a prominent Sufi philosopher and poet. Hermeneutical analysis is a method of interpretation that focuses on the meaning and significance of a text. The poems of Ibn Arabi’s poems have many symbolism and metaphors that are rooted in Islamic mysticism, and hermeneutical analysis provides a framework for understanding the deep spiritual and philosophical themes in his poems. Through this approach, the abstract examines the various layers of meaning in Ibn Arabi's poems, including the spiritual insights they offer, the relationship between the individual and the divine, and the concept of divine love. Overall, this abstract highlights the importance of hermeneutical analysis in unlocking the profound and complex meaning of Ibn Arabi's poems
CREATION OF COMIC STRIPS USING CANVA IN TEACHING WRITING TO STUDENTS
This study simulates the making of comic strips using Canva in teaching writing skills. This research utilizes descriptive qualitative. The analysis shows that creating comic strips using Canva is easy and simple. Open Canva at www.canva.com/ on mobile/ desktop then sign in or register using email, Facebook, or Google. Search for "comics" to start designs. Browse templates, start with a blank page, or choose Canva's ready-made templates. Experiment with features comic designs then customize comics with color schemes, lawyers, font styles, and combinations of stickers, icons, and illustrations. Rearrange speech bubbles and frames, upload images, save/publish and share. Teachers can use Canva to create/design comic strips for writing English sentences/conversations. We can use the available comic strip template patterns or customize them as needed. For example, we create/design a comic strip about "My Daily Activity", we ask students to write sentences/essays of descriptive text according to the picture instructions in the comic strips from the activities of waking up to going to school using the present tense. We can ask students to write sentences/essays about "All About Me". We can ask students to write down what is depicted in the comic strips, for example, personal information including name, birthday, address, family, favorite, hobby, or ambition. Several ways need to be considered in creating comic strips such as the concept/story idea, storyline, and attractive image. For making interesting and educative learning comics, we can include an element of humor, insert material in character conversations, use casual language, and create attractive visuals
MILLENNIAL LEVEL OF AWARENESS OF LANGUAGE POLICY IN INDONESIA
This article discusses the level of the millennial about language policy. The millennials are living in a new period of time especially in Indonesia. As a national language, Indonesian language surely can't be separated from the policy of the Indonesian language. It was proclaimed in the youth pledge that the Indonesian language is a language that makes Indonesia one unity. The usage of the Indonesian language by the millennials through the time, there are also regional languages that are used as well. But lately, the use of good Indonesian language is threatened by foreign language use. Marked by this lately popular mixing of Indonesia and English language as a trend on the internet
THE FORMATION OF SLANG WORDS IN THE FILM PENYALIN CAHAYA
This research focuses on the formation of slang in the film Photocopier. This research is qualitative research with an orientation in the formation of slang words. The data collection used is in the form of listening techniques and note-taking techniques. Data analysis goes through four stages specifically, the process of data identification, data classification, data presentation, and data conclusion. The results of this study show that word formation can be done in four ways specifically, affixation, duplication, composition, and abbreviation. The meaning produced by word formation will vary depending on the existing context
READING KARA’S NEEDS IN PAMELA CLARE’S EXTREME EXPOSURE
This study focuses on the motivation which motivate Kara wants to fulfill her needs in Pamela Clare’s Extreme Exposure. This study aims to explain the motivations of the main character to fulfill her needs which are taken from Extreme Exposure Novel written by Pamela Clare. This study is conducted by applying a qualitative research design since the data are in the form of words. The data of this study are the utterances which contain of Kara’s motivations to fulfill her needs in the novel Extreme Exposure. The data are collected by using content analysis method. In analyzing the data, the writer uses interactive data analysis. This study uses Human Motivation by Abraham Maslow, known as “The Hierarchy of Needs”.It reveals the aspect of the main character’s motivation to fulfill her needs. Kara has strong motivation from her unpleasant experiences in the past that are, Kara’s father and boyfriend left her, and Kara’s love her son. From her unpleasant experiences, make Kara wants to reach what she needs in sexual needs, protection, love and belongingness, Kara’s self esteem and her desire of job as her self actualization
REVENGE REFLECTED IN AGATHA CHRISTIE’S MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS NOVEL (1934): PSYCHOANALYTIC APPROACH
This research describes Linda Arden's revenge on Agatha Christie's novel entitled Murder on The Orient Express. The method of data collection is descriptive qualitative research. Based on the analysis, the researcher gets some conclusions. First, the main motive of Linda Arden's revenge is the kidnapping case of her granddaughter, Daisy, who was not only kidnapped but also killed by Cassetti, followed by the death of her daughter, Sonia, and son-in-law, Colonel Armstrong and also the death of Susanne, Daisy's nursemaid. Second, the revenge that Linda Arden planned is to end Cassetti's life with the help of the others affected by Cassetti's crime
INTRODUCING INDONESIAN LANGUAGE TO THE WORLD THROUGH CULTURE-ENRICHED BIPA LEARNING
This study aims to introduce the Indonesian language and culture to the world through cultural-based BIPA (Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers) learning. The method used is content analysis to identify the cultural-based materials in BIPA learning related to Indonesian culture such as customs, arts, music, dance, and culinary. The results of the study show that cultural-based BIPA learning can effectively introduce the Indonesian language and culture to the world. The cultural-based materials in BIPA learning can increase the interest and understanding of the world towards the Indonesian language and culture. Therefore, cultural-based BIPA learning needs to be developed and disseminated widely to introduce the Indonesian language and culture to the world
EUPHEMISM AS POLITENESS STRATEGY: INVESTIGATING LANGUAGE USE AMONG CHILDREN OF INDONESIAN MIGRANT WORKERS IN MALAYSIA
This study explores euphemism in the language use of Indonesian migrant workers' children in Malaysia. Focusing on intercultural communication within Indonesian schools, it employs a qualitative case study approach with observational data collection. Results reveal diverse euphemistic forms (1) one-word substitutions, (2) circumlocution, (3) borrowing, (4) abbreviation, (5) hyperbole, and (6) figurative expression in Bugisness, Indonesian, English, and Malaysian.
