MADURESE MILLENNIAL STUDENTS’ ANXIETY IN LEARNING ENGLISH
Get PDFThis study is to find out the models of Madurese millennial students’ anxiety and thefactors causing the Madurese millennial students’ anxiety in learning English. Thisresearch is a qualitative research by using descriptive case study. The participants ofthe study are Madurese millennial students at English Department of MaduraUniversity. Observation and interviews with Madurese millennial students wereconducted to get the data of the models and factors causing their anxiety. The resultsof the study indicate that Madurese millennial students experience two kinds ofanxiety models those are interference and deficit models. Interference models aremore dominants than deficit models. The teachers, friends, and abilities of Maduresemillennial students are the factors causing their anxiety in learning English. Theteachers are the first factors causing their anxiety. Their abilities in English become thesecond factor. However, it rarely happens to Madurese millennial students feelnervous when they are communicating with their peers. The communication inEnglish become natural with no anxiety when they with their friends. Therefore, itimplies that the teachers should propose the classroom activities providing facilitiesand helping the students to get meaningful input in English in order to overcomefrom their anxiety

LOCAL WISDOM AND VALUE OF CHARACTER IN LEVEL OF AJI KRAMA AT SASAK WEDDING TRADITION
Get PDFThe discourse of marriage tradition when viewed based on a theoretical point of view will result in a form of concepts, meanings, and functions. In this case, the discourse of the tradition in question is the discourse of the sorong serah aji krama tradition. The discourse of this tradition is found in the Lombok-Sasak area located in Jonggat Subdistrict, Central Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB). The axes of aji krama contained in this area have levels ranging from the bottom of the so-called 33, 66, and 100. In this case, the study is to find the value contained in the level aji krama is also explained to the community that in the level of aji krama is not only limited to discourse or celebration in a mere cultural symbol, but contains the value of philosophical life. In this case, the method used in collecting data is an interview with a prominent traditional figure who knows the ins and outs of the tradition of handling the aji krama well. Thus, the data in this study is verbal aspect in the form of interviews related to the level of aji krama contained in the area. Data analysis in this case uses Hermeneutic’s Ricoeur's thinking framework that sees a text of three levels, namely semantic level, philosophical level, and level of existence. Based on the results of this study, thrust of aji krama as a tradition of marriage which also has aji aji krama level has a strong philosophical foundation. It can be seen from the level of aji 33 which shows an understanding of self, God, and all his power obtained through understanding the nature of Allah SWT. Aji 66 is a multilevel of understanding aji 33 approaching to the category of human being (rodiallah) and aji 100 is the highest category to the understanding of the nature of self and God and all forms of his power gained from a deep understanding of the 99 ulma asthma that leads to one form, that is Allah SWT. Thus, the understanding is a category of local wisdom that contains the value of character and is represented in the form of religious character
A STUDY ON CORPUS-BASED EFL VOCABULARY TEACHING

The style and expression of language, literature, and art reflect the cultural style of the societies.In the life of society, there are groups or social layers that have the structure, strength, and taste of life that tend to vary. This distinction leads to the emergence of different adaptation strategies undertaken by each community to meet the needs of their lives. The diversity of patterns and adaptation strategies undertaken by diverse communities is reflected in the various cultural works it produces.The presence of language, literature, and art has a function for the people of its speakers. Individually, language, literature, and the arts function as a means of expression or sublimation, while socially the cultural products of the society serve to fulfill certain interests, such as for the belief, religion, politics, education, and economy. Thus, in language, literature, and art those are contained a number of messages that have a particular function or meaning for the people of its speakers.In various events, the cultural products of the society in the form of language, literature, and art are functioned by the owner as a vehicle for building relationships among individuals in a whole community. Cultural products are functioned as a medium to unify and strengthen the closeness of their relationship in carrying out cultural practices. The cultural environment in the family has also started to be influenced by many kinds of development through the social media. It is an indication that the modern life has made the parents worried about their children’s characters. The phenomenon can be seen from the news headlines about the life of the learners from preschoolers until the college students. This writing is aimed at implementing audiovisual method in the learning of child literature by utilizing folktales (child stories) based on the local wisdom of Kembaran tribe in West Papua, as a medium for character building in order to develop the awareness to love the environment and to have a sense of belonging to the environment as a form of a real life. By using ethnographic approach, it was found that the child literature of Kembaran tribe can build the character of the children, can establish the sociocultural values along with the awareness to keep up the spirit and to preserve the local wisdom in West Papua

PANJI TRADITION IN THE JARANAN JOR AND WAYANG TIMPLONG PERFORMANCE ARTS IN EAST JAVA

This paper aims to reveal the Panji tradition in performing arts in East Java,especially Jaranan Jor (Blitar) and Wayang Timplong (Nganjuk). It also tries to reveal ashift of the function of both performances based on their actualization in today'ssociety. Jaranan Jor has changed its function in society, from the function of ritualceremonies into entertainment (spectacle) function. Wayang Timplong is stillfunctioning as a ritual ceremony of Nyadran (village cleaning).
