2-(3-(Chloromethyl)benzoyloxy)benzoic Acid reduces prostaglandin E-2 concentration, NOX2 and NFKB expression, ROS production, and COX-2 expression in lipopolysaccharide-induced mice
Introduction: Inflammation is a fundamental response to various insults, including microbial invasion and tissue injury. While aspirin (ASA) has been widely used for its anti-inflammatory properties, its adverse effects and limitations highlight the need for novel therapeutic alternatives. Recently, a novel salicylic acid derivative, 2-((3- (chloromethyl)benzoyl)oxy)benzoic acid (3-CH2Cl), has emerged as a potential substitute for ASA, offering a
simpler, environmentally friendly synthesis and a promising safety profile.
Aim of the study: This research aims to evaluate the anti-inflammatory mechanism of 3-CH2Cl in a lipopolysaccharide
(LPS)-induced mouse model, focusing on its effects on prostaglandin E-2 (PGE-2) concentration, NOX2 and NFkB expression, ROS production, and COX-2 expression.
Material and methods: Utilizing BALB/C mice subjected to LPS-induced inflammation, we investigated the therapeutic
potential of 3-CH2Cl. The study included synthesis and tablet preparation, experimental design, peripheral blood plasma PGE-2 measurement, splenocyte isolation and COX-2 expression analysis, nitric oxide and ROS measurement, and immunohistochemical analysis of NOX2 and NFkB expression.
Results: 3-CH2Cl significantly reduced PGE-2 levels (p = 0.005), NO concentration in liver homogenates (p = 0.005) and plasma (p = 0.0011), and expression of NOX2 and NFkB in liver (p < 0.0001) and splenocytes (p = 0.0036), demonstrating superior anti-inflammatory activity compared to ASA. Additionally, it showed
potential in decreasing COX-2 expression in splenocytes.
Conclusion: 3-CH2Cl exhibits potent anti-inflammatory properties, outperforming ASA in several key inflammatory
markers in an LPS-induced inflammation model. The reduction of COX-2 expression, alongside the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress markers, suggest it as a promising therapeutic agent for various inflammatory conditions

Critical Moment for Indonesian Journalism: Disappearance of Journalistic Firewall
This study aims to understand the dynamics of journalists’ professionalism regarding the critical moment for Indonesian journalism in carrying out their journalistic practices. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method and took place in Surabaya, East Java, the second largest city in Indonesia that records the highest media growth in the country besides Jakarta and Medan. The results of this study show that there has been the destuction of old journalistic values including journalistic independence and the normalization of new journalistic practices that mix editorial and business among journalists surveyed. Nowadays, the mixture is considered a normal journalistic practice. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the process of eroding journalists’ welfare and reviving pre-pandemic unethical practices, such as bribery, extortion and news withdrawal on the pretext of welfare. The pandemic has also given rise to a turning point in journalistic practices related to the press business model which traditionally relied on ads and changed the direction of news reporting that the journalistic firewall has cordoned by separating editorial from business. This gave rise to the destruction of journalistic values including independence and the disappearance of the journalistic firewall

Efficient and selective phosphate removal from wastewater using surface-modified spent bleaching earth from palm oil refineries: A zero-waste approach
This research employs a zero-waste approach by utilizing the surfactant-modified spent bleaching earth (SBE) waste from palm oil refineries for phosphate removal from wastewater. Various mass ratios of n-hexane to SBE (rhex), CTAB loading (mc), and temperature (Ti) is studied to obtain the reactivated SBE with the highest phosphate removal – which is obtained at rhex = 1:5, mc = 0.5 wt%, and Ti = 30 ◦C and is referred to as RSBEm. A 97.7 wt% removal of phosphate and 194.6 mg/g adsorption capacity can be successfully achieved at pH = 7, Co =
150 mg/L, t = 150 min, T = 30 ◦C, RSBEm loading = 0.1 wt%. The kinetic, isotherm, and thermodynamic studies suggest that the phosphate uptake follows the monolayer mechanism. The studies also show that the adsorption is spontaneous, endothermic, and mainly driven by the electrostatic interaction between the cationic head of CTAB attached to the interlayer spacing of RSBEm and negative phosphate ion. RSBEm shows good reusability with the phosphate removal rate > 80 wt% until four cycles. Based on the selectivity study using the single
compound and binary system approach, RSBEm also has a good selectivity towards phosphate in the presence of various co-existing anions
Formulasi sediaan body scrub ekstrak biji alpukat (Persea americana Mill.)
Proses pembaharuan sel kulit terjadi di epidermis. Proses ini dikenal sebagai deskuamasi yang biasanya terjadi tanpa terlihat sebagai pelepasan sel-sel tunggal atau kumpulan sel-sel kecil yang terlepas dari permukaan kulit secara alami. Sel-sel kulit mati membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk terlepas secara alami, hal ini dapat menyebabkan penampilan kulit menjadi kusam, tekstur kulit menjadi kasar dan kering, serta ketebalan kulit meningkat atau tidak merata. Proses pengelupasan sel kulit mati dapat dipercepat dengan bantuan eksfoliasi kosmetik yaitu body scrub. Salah satu limbah bahan alam yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan aktif dalam sediaan body scrub adalah biji alpukat. Biji alpukat mengandung senyawa prosianidin, katekin, asam fenolik dan senyawa fitokimia lainnya yang memiliki manfaat bagi kulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh peningkatan konsentrasi ekstrak kental biji alpukat (Persea americana Mill.) terhadap hasil uji mutu fisik dan efektivitas dari sediaan body scrub serta mengetahui formula terbaik yang memenuhi spesifikasi uji mutu fisik dan efektivitas. Konsentrasi ekstrak kental biji alpukat (Persea americana Mill.) yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu 2,5% (Formula I), 5% (Formula II) dan 7,5% (Formula III). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, peningkatan konsentrasi ekstrak kental biji alpukat (Persea americana Mill.) berpengaruh terhadap nilai viskositas, ph, daya sebar, daya membersihkan kotoran dan aktivitas antioksidan sediaan
