Comprehensive Analysis of Behavioral Models Approach for Reducing Food-Wasting Behavior
北九州市立大学博士(学術)Food waste has negative effects on the environment, health, society, and economy. Most food waste occurs at the consumption stage in the food supply chain, which means that food waste is related to human behavior related to food. Consumers throw away or damage food that is still fit for consumption, and this behavior is called food-wasting behavior. This study aims to reduce food-wasting behavior by using a behavioral model approach. This study was conducted in Makassar City, Indonesia, involving 1715 respondents aged 12 to 60 years. Data were collected using a questionnaire in the form of a Likert Scale Rating, which was then analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. This study produced 3 main findings, first, the applicability of TPB, NAM, and VBN as behavioral models for reducing food waste were supported. Second, The integrated model of a combination of TPB, NAM, VBN can be used as an alternative to behavioral models that explain food-wasting behavior. Third, the model that integrates TPB, NAM, and VBN is relatively able to explain food-wasting behavior based on demographics: age, gender, marital status, and occupation status.doctoral thesi

Assessment tool development for adaptive reuse of vacant houses in Japan
北九州市立大学博士(工学)This dissertation develops an assessment tool for adaptive reuse of vacant houses in Japan, addressing the nation’s growing vacancy problem. The study first identifies motivations and concerns of potential users, then analyzes characteristics of successful reuse cases, and finally formulates a systematic evaluation framework. A mixed-methods approach was applied, including literature review, 262 case surveys, interviews, and statistical analyses. Findings show that financial considerations, location, and emotional value are primary reuse drivers, while all age groups are linked to vacancy trends. Case clustering revealed three reuse typologies—urban (cafés near transit), suburban (hospitality with moderate access), and rural (heritage lodgings in remote areas)—with older buildings (80+ years) most adaptable. The developed tool integrates 14 criteria across stakeholder, economic, legal, and environmental aspects, producing five reuse-potential levels. The research confirms three hypotheses and highlights stakeholder involvement as both enabler and barrier, offering policy recommendations for future implementation.doctoral thesi

Estimation of Methane Emissions from Landfills and Mitigation Strategies in Indonesia
北九州市立大学博士(工学)Landfill methane emissions are a significant source of greenhouse gases in Indonesia; however, their estimation, monitoring, and mitigation remain significantly fragmented. This study evaluates methane emissions from 341 landfills using SIPSN database, characterizing site types, waste, and disposal methods, and reviews publications (2008-2025) for emission estimates and mitigation strategies. Methane emissions at Griyomulyo and Sekoto landfills were quantified using IPCC, LandGEM, Afvalzorg, and Thailand models with local DOC, L₀, and k-values, compared with static chamber measurements (Griyomulyo: 6,414–9,952 Mg/year modeled, compared with 47.65 Mg/year measured). A regional k-value database divided Indonesia into three climatic zones. AERMOD simulations revealed plumes up to 24,194 ha, affecting eleven villages, with concentrations exceeding 90,000 µg/m³. Nationally, 63% of waste is biodegradable, while 84.7% of sites lack gas capture; some emit more than 100,000 Mg/year, including methane fires. Adoption of gas capture, energy recovery, improved emission factors, and policy reinforcement reduces methane emissions and supports Indonesia’s climate targets.doctoral thesi
A study on the Biomass fly ash-based geopolymer and microbially self-healing mechanism and efficiency
北九州市立大学博士(工学)Biomass fly ash can serve as one of the precursors for producing geopolymer. The type of biomass fly ash, alkaline activator, and curing conditions all influence the mechanical properties of the geopolymer. The optimal M⁺ and AM values were found to be 11.5% and 0.75, respectively. SiO₂, Al₂O₃, and CaO content in biomass fly ash significantly affect the mechanical performance.Microorganisms can be used to develop self-healing geopolymers. Bacillus cohnii was employed as the microbial source, and high-calcium and low-calcium fly ashes were selected as additional calcium sources. Results demonstrated that high-calcium fly ash exhibited more positive effects. SEM-EDS analysis confirmed the formation of CaCO₃. Additionally, the presence of EPS was identified, which serves as a nucleation site for CaCO₃, thereby promoting self-healing.doctoral thesi
Daylighting and energy consumption evaluation of photovoltaic shading based on parametric performance design method
北九州市立大学博士(工学)As global energy and environmental challenges intensify, integrating photovoltaic (PV) technology with shading systems offers a promising pathway to enhance building efficiency and daylighting. Yet, PV shading design faces challenges, including energy–daylighting trade-offs, specialized expertise requirements, and a lack of systematic methods, especially in cold climates. This study proposes a parametric performance design methodology for PV shading, implemented in Grasshopper and Ladybugtools as a streamlined “one-click” process. The framework integrates scheme generation, performance evaluation, and multi-objective optimization in a closed feedback loop. A case study of an office building in Qingdao validates the method. Results show hybrid single-leaf PV shading achieves the best performance, reducing energy use by 50.38% and improving daylighting, while optimized louver systems reduce net use by 47%. Multi-objective optimization confirms single-leaf systems balance energy, daylight, and economic outcomes. Research on thermal comfort improvement for the rural elderly in the Guanzhong region: an age-stratified analysis of residential environments
北九州市立大学博士(工学)This study investigated the thermal comfort of rural elderly in the Guanzhong region of China, addressing challenges of aging populations and energy efficiency. Field measurements and simulations examined age-specific thermal needs across different groups. Results showed that personalized strategies, combined with passive design improvements and ASHP systems, enhanced comfort while reducing energy consumption by up to 33.4% in modern and 20.3% in traditional dwellings. Flotation-Enhanced Biomass Fly Ash as a Cement Substitute: Influence of Oxide Composition on Strength Development
北九州市立大学博士(工学)This study investigates the potential of biomass fly ash (BFA) as a sustainable supplementary cementitious material by combining flotation pretreatment with synergistic blending strategies. Flotation was employed to reduce unburned carbon and improve pozzolanic reactivity, while binary combinations of low- and high-reactivity BFAs were evaluated for performance enhancement. Experimental results revealed that this integrated approach significantly improves compressive strength and hydration behavior, even for BFAs that do not meet standards individually. The findings provide a practical and scalable pathway for utilizing heterogeneous BFA sources in low-carbon cementitious systems.doctoral thesi
