    Pengaruh Lebar Fasad, Warna Interior, dan Lokasi Meja Kasir terhadap Persepsi Aman dan Sikap Konsumen pada Convenience Store

    Pesatnya perkembangan convenience store berkontribusi terhadap tingginya angka kejahatan pada toko. Pedoman convenience store dan teori-teori yang terkait menunjukkan bahwa visibilitas dari convenience store penting untuk menekan maksud kriminal. Namun, faktor yang dikembangkan untuk mendorong persepsi keamanan dan perilaku konsumen tidak jelas dijelaskan. Penelitian ini menguji variabel yang dapat menekan maksud kriminal melalui peningkatan persepsi aman konsumen dan perilaku dalam toko. Percobaan ini menggunakan 43 responden untuk mengevaluasi stimulus gambar simulasi interior dari convenience store. Data dari respon dianalisis dengan ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lokasi kasir jauh dari pintu keluar dengan kombinasi warna dingin dianggap aman oleh responden, sedangkan lokasi counter jauh dari pintu keluar memberikan efek positif pada perilaku konsumen. Sedangkan variabel muka bangunan tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan dalam membangun persepsi konsumen dan perilaku. Hasil eksperimen diharapkan menjadi kenyamanan pedoman desain dari convenience store dan mengembangkan pengetahuan desain. Di masa depan, kita dapat mempelajari jenis lain dari toko atau fungsi lain dengan masalah yang sama.Kata Kunci: convenience store; pencegahan kejahatan; perilaku konsumen; persepsi aman.Influence of Façade Width, Interior Color and Cashier Desk Location on Security Perception and Client Behavior in Convenience StoresThe rapid development of the convenience store contributes to the rising occurence of retail crime. Convenience store guidelines and related theories show that visibility in convenience store interiors is important to suppress criminal intents. However, the factors developed to improve security perception and client behavior are not clearly described. In this study variables were examined that may suppress criminal intent through the improvement of security perception and consumer behavior in convenience stores. In the experiment for this study 43 respondents were used to evaluate a stimulus set consisting of simulated images of a convenience store interior. The response data were analyzed using ANOVA. The experiment results showed that a cashier location far from the exit with a cool color combination is deemed secure by the respondents, while the location of a counter away from the exit has a positive effect on client behavior. However, the façade variable did not contribute significantly to improving security perception and client behavior. The experimental results can be used in convenience store design guidelines and for developing design knowledge. In the future, other types of shops or public spaces with similar problems can be studied.Keywords: convenience store; crime prevention; consumer behavior; security perception

    Fenomena Horror Vacui Terkait Aplikasi Ragam Hias Aceh di Interior Bandara Sultan Iskandar Muda

    Pada diri manusia, terdapat perasaan yang disebut 'horor vacui'. Horor vacui perasaan yang tidak dapat membiarkan tempat atau bidangnya kosong. Bidang kosong ini kerap diisi dengan objek-objek visual tertentu yang mempunyai nilai simbolis seperti ornamen tradisional. Perasaan ini masih berkembang di masyarakat saat ini. Tetapi orang-orang saat ini hanya menggunakan ornamen tradisional demi tujuan estetika. Fenomena ini (horor vacui) juga terjadi pada orang-orang Aceh. Interior dari Bandara Internasional Sultan Iskandar Muda diisi dengan ornamen tradisional Aceh, menunjukkan kepada kita tentang seberapa kuat perasaan horor vacui pada masyarakat Aceh. Selain berdampak pada pengurangan nilai, horor vacui dalam penggunaan ornamen tradisional Aceh pada interior Bandara Internasional Sultan Iskandar Muda, juga menghasilkan persepsi dari pengunjung bandara. Persepsi ini muncul bervariasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan mengingat pentingnya mengisi kekurangan literasi tentang horor vacui dalam desain interior dan studi tentang ornamen tradisional pada interior bandara, terutama tentang ornamen tradisional Aceh.Kata kunci: horor vacui; interior bandara; nilai; ornamen tradisional Aceh; unsur estetika.Horror Vacui Phenomenon Related to Aceh Decoration Application in Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport InteriorIn human beings there is a propensity called 'horror vacui' (Latin). Horror vacui means that you cannot leave a place or surface empty. The empty area is often filled with visual objects that have a symbolic value, such as traditional ornaments. This propensity is still strong in today's society. People commonly use traditional ornaments because of their aesthetic value. The phenomenon of horror vacui also affects the people of Aceh. The interior of Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport is filled with Acehnese traditional ornaments, showing a strong sense of horror vacui. In addition to reducing the aesthetic value of the environment, horror vacui in the use of traditional Acehnese ornaments in Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport also has an impact on the perceptions of the airport visitors. These perceptions vary.     Cross Sectional Attitudes of Public Sculpture Matrix in Southwestern Nigeria

    Public outdoor sculpture practice in the Southwestern Nigeria entails different types of attitudes. These attitudes are discernable from the stage of commissioning of work, its conceptualization to the display and uses in the public sphere generated diverse fundamental, constant technical issues. Some are explicitly alluring while others are absurd, fleeting and injurious to the practice. However, whatever attitude advanced in the public outdoor sculpture practice, it has not been discussed cross sectionally. The inadequate scholarship attention on the attitudinal issues in outdoor sculpture certainly created art historical gap apt to make the study of contemporary Nigeria art incoherent. Apparently, attitudinal studies certainly involve psychological measurement - a type of instrument that does not required descriptive survey. For this reason, the study was based on qualitative methods. The study categorised various attitudes in outdoor sculpture practice in the studied area into pre-unveiling, unveiling and post unveiling stages and critically examined them. Some attitudes in the practice of the art were observed to be stimulant for advancement; invariably others are clearly incongruous to the spirit of typical Yoruba societal value orientation in orderliness, therefore degrading and detrimental to the development of the outdoor sculpture in the public sphere.Keywords: Art patron; cross sectional attitude; outdoor sculpture; post-unveiling; pre-unveiling; public art; Southwestern Nigeria; unveiling

    Potensi Limbah Padat sebagai Benang Gintir Berbasis Sistem Interlacing

    Sistem pengelolaan sampah di tempat pembuangan sampah menjadi masalah lingkungan yang besar seiring dengan pertumbuhan industri pulp dan kertas di Indonesia. Konversi limbah padat menjadi bahan bakar pelengkap untuk industri kertas juga tidak memberikan hasil yang signifikan untuk memecahkan masalah pencemaran udara pada saat karbon aktif dibebaskan dari proses pembakaran. Masalah ini secara khusus menuntut sistem pengelolaan sampah yang maju dan efektif secara terus-menerus. Baru-baru ini, optimasi pemanfaatan serat-limbah menjadi alternatif khusus untuk mengurangi tumpukan sampah di tempat pembuangan sampah. Namun, tidak semua dapat didaur ulang. Karakteristik limbah padat berserat dari industri kertas tisu cenderung menurun gramaturnya, sehingga sangat disayangkan pemanfaatannya akan berkurang bahkan setelah proses daur ulang. Di sisi lain, struktur kimianya yang telah rusak selama proses produksi tampaknya menjadi semangat baru bagi industri tekstil di masa depan dalam mengembangkan teknologi daur ulang limbah padat berserat, yang menghasilkan benang tekstil generasi baru. Fokus dalam penelitian ini ditekankan pada penemuan tas yang terbuat dari bahan serat-limbah menggunakan metode eksperimental. Identifikasi karakteristik serat-sampah berbasis padat dikembangkan melalui teknik eksplorasi multi-ply yarns berdasarkan sistem interlace. Hubungan antara penciptaan produk dan forecasting  tren pada tahun 2013 akan menjadi analisis berikutnya sebagai salah satu cara untuk memecahkan masalah sampah.Kata Kunci: limbah; multi-ply yarns; sistem interlacing.The Potential of Solid Waste as Multiply Yarn Based on Interlacing SystemsSolid-waste disposal in landfills is becoming a massive environmental problem as a result of the growth of the pulp and paper industry in Indonesia. The conversion of solid waste to complementary fuel for the paper industry is also not giving any significant results to solve air contamination, as active carbon is released into the atmosphere by the burning process. This particular problem demands an advanced and effective continuous waste management system. Recently, optimized waste-fiber utilization has come forward as a promising alternative to reduce the waste pile in landfills. However, not all of it can be recycled. Fibered solid waste from the tissue-paper industry tends to decrease its grammage, which unfortunately will eventually reduce its utilization after recycling. On the other hand, its chemical structure, which has already been damaged during the production process, appears to be giving inspiration for a future textile industry based on the development of fibered solid-waste recycling technology, resulting in a new generation of textile yarns. In this research, the focus is on the invention of a handbag made from fiber-waste material using experimental methods. Solid-based fiber waste characteristics identification was developed through a multi-ply yarn exploration technique based on an interlacing system. The relationship between product creation and the trend forecasting for 2013 will be our next goal as one way of solving Indonesia's waste problem.Keywords: interlacing system; multi-ply yarns; waste

    Design Criteria in Revitalizing Old Warehouse District on the Kalimas Riverbank Area of Surabaya City

    Neglected warehouse buildings along the Kalimas River have created a poor urban façade in terms of visual quality. However the city government is planning to encourage tourism activities that take advantage of Kalimas River and its surrounding environment. If there is no good plan in accordance with the concept of local identity for old city of Surabaya, it will reduce it as a tourist attraction. In reference to the issue above, design criteria needs to be compiled for revitalizing the old warehouse district, which is expected to revive the identity of this district and be able to support the city's tourism. This study was conducted by recording field observations, and the data was analyzed using the character appraisal method. The character appraisal analysis method is presented in the form of street picture data, which is divided into determined segments. The results show that there are five components including place attachment, sustainable urban design, green open space design, ecological riverfront design, and activity support that should be considered in the revitalization of the warehouse district. Those components are divided into two parts: building and open space at the riverbank. There are 13 design criteria for building at the riverbank, while there are 14 design criteria for open space at the riverbank. These design criteria can enrich the warehouse district's revitalization by improving the visual quality of the urban environment.Keywords: design criteria; warehouse district; riverbank; Surabaya; revitalization

    Incorporation And Exploration Of Local Imageries And Identities In Malaysia's Graffiti Art

    The production of graffiti art in Malaysia can be traced back to the late 1990's. Since then, graffiti art has beenembraced by local municipalities as well as the National Visual Art Gallery (NVAG) in their public programming and activities. Despite these positive developments, how the local graffiti artists infused local imageries and indentities in their work had not been examined. The parallels between graffiti art practices and the development of modern art in Malaysia, made the emergence of forms  and themes that reflect local identity in graffiti art  not a surprise, as these were also the inherent issues explored by local artists in the domain of fine arts. This paper hence, discusses the different approaches taken by Malaysia's graffiti artists, how they incorporate and explored their visual ideas rooted in hip hop culture and the New York City Subway graffiti, with local imageries and identities.     Narasi Reverse bagi Kemajuan Seni Lukis

    Seni lukis pernah menjadi medium bagi perkembangan dan kemajuan seni rupa. Namun setelah Narasi Besar ditinggalkan, praktek seni lukis tidak lagi berjalan berdasarkan narasi atau paradigma tertentu. Seni lukis sekarang berjalan tanpa paradigma tunggal, dilakukan dengan membangun narasi subject matter individual, dan menjadi salah satu faktor produksi dalam seni rupa kontemporer. Kemajuan sekarang ditemukan pada gerak maju proses kerja melukis atau produktifitas penciptaan lukisan (yang berhubungan dengan rekognisi dan demand terhadap praktek tersebut). Karya ini mempersoalkan 'kemajuan' yang terjadi pada praktek seni lukis sekarang, dengan 'membalik' kerja tiga orang pelukis yang berada di tengah mekanisme produksi-konsumsi seni rupa kontemporer: Radi Arwinda, R.E. Hartanto, dan J.A. Pramuhendra. Dengan persetujuan yang mereka berikan, kerja melukis mereka 'dibalik', dengan melabur lukisan mereka sampai kembali menjadi kanvas kosong. Narasi reverse hadir dalam video rekaman proses melabur yang diproyeksikan ke lukisan yang sudah menjadi kanvas kosong. Proses ini bisa dilihat sebagai perjalanan mencapai 'kanvas kosong' yang menggambarkan kepenuhan potensi dalam seni lukis, yang terbuka bagi kerja dan persepsi yang di-'proyeksi'-kan kepadanya.Kata kunci: kemajuan seni; kerja melukis; narasi; penciptaan seni; proyeksi; reverse.Reverse Narrative for the Advancement of ArtPainting was once become a medium for the development and advancement of the art world. However, after the Big Narrative being left, the practice of painting is no longer running by a particular narration or paradigm. Painting now practiced without any single paradigm, it is done by constructing a narrative of individual subject matter, and became one of the production factors in contemporary art. The progress is now found on forward movement of the painting working process or painting creation productivity (which is related to the recognition and demand for such practices). This work questioned the 'progress' that occurs in the practice of painting nowadays, by 'reversing' the work of three painters who were in the middle of the contemporary art production-consumption mechanism: Radi Arwinda, R.E. Hartanto, and J.A. Pramuhendra. With the approval from them, they gave their painting 'reversed', by whitewashing them to get back into a blank canvas. Reverse narrative present in the video that recorded the whitewashing process and then projected onto the painting that had become a blank canvas. This process can be seen as a way to achieving 'blank canvas' that illustrates the potential fullness in painting, which is open for labor and perception projected onto them.Keywords: progress in art; painting labor; narrative; art creation; projections; reverse

    Restoring a Burnt Heritage PTPN X Building in Surabaya

    The archipelago of Indonesia has lots of historical buildings that were built during the Dutch colonization era, which lasted for approximately 350 years.  In 2011, there were 167 colonial architectural buildings in Surabaya city [1].  Due to their importance to the city as testimony of the history of Surabaya, and are a way to develop heritage tourism in Surabaya, the city government must preserve them.  A thorough research study has been done to support the city government in restoring a heritage building called PT Perkebunan Nusantara X (PTPN X).  It is a state-owned agricultural business office located at Jalan Jembatan Merah, Surabaya, and located among other historical sites. The PTPN X building was burnt down in 2005 with a damage level of about 60%.  In order to be able to build a new one with the original design of its past European architecture and details of its historical relics, the restoration acts require intensive consultations with many people such as the PTPN X employees, academic experts from Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and the city's cultural heritage experts who know all about it. In this paper, the approaches and final outcome of the building restoration will be described in greater detail.     Kemampuan Adaptasi Orang Kidal terhadap Lingkungan Non Kidal dalam Aktivitas Menulis dan Menggambar. (Studi Kasus: Mahasiswa/i FSRD-ITB)

    Dalam dunia yang dihuni oleh mayoritas orang-orang non-kidal, orang-orang kidal terkenal dengan kemampuan beradaptasi terhadap barang-barang yang diperuntukkan bagi orang non kidal, seperti salah satunya kursi kuliah. Sedikitnya penelitian yang pernah dilakukan, memicu pada penelitian yang lebih jauh tentang kemampuan adaptasi populasi orang kidal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasikan perilaku orang kidal terutama mengenai produktivitas, kemampuan adaptasi, orientasi gerak, dan tingkat kenyamanan selama mengerjakan tugas menulis dan menggambar. Dilakukan observasi visual untuk memperhatikan gerakan tertentu pada setiap tugas yang dilakukan di atas meja tulis biasa dan kursi kuliah. Penelitian dilakukan pada 14 responden, yang terdiri dari 7 responden kidal dan 7 responden non kidal. Semua responden merupakan mahasiswa aktif Fakultas Seni Rupa dan Desain ITB. Data yang terekam oleh video dianalisis dengan menggunakan perangkat lunak Image J dengan pemisahan data video tersebut ke dalam beberapa bingkai (frame). Selain itu, responden juga diberikan kuesioner dengan menggunakan metode Visual Analog Scale (Semantic Differential) sebagai verifikasi dari data yang diperoleh dari observasi visual. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kemampuan adaptasi orang kidal secara signifikan lebih tinggi daripada kemampuan adaptasi orang non-kidal dalam kasus perubahan situasi kerja. Hasil dari penelitian ini dirumuskan sebagai referensi pengembangan desain dari perangkat kerja bagi orang kidal agar sesuai dengan ketentuan desain universal.Kata kunci: adaptasi; kidal; menulis; menggambar.In the world of right handed person (RHP) life, left handed person (LHP) is known to show their ability in adapting right handed-purpose goods such as table top chair in the classroom. The less number of researches lead this study to investigate in-depth about the adaptability of LHP population. This study aims to identify LHPs behavior according to their productivity, adaptability, movement orientation and comfort level during conducting writing and drawing tasks. Visual observation is conducted to determine the typical movement during the tasks that done on the common table and table-top chair. 14 subjects were employed in this experiment that consist 7 LHP and 7 RHP. All subjects are students of Faculty of Arts and Design. Data recorded from video is analyzed by ImageJ software by splitting video data into images frame. To verify data gained from visual observation, visual analog scale method (Semantic Differential) was used to clarify all responds from subjects. The results of experiments showed that the level of LHP adaptability significantly higher than RHP in term of workstation changes. The result of this study is formulated to contribute the design improvement of workstation for LHP regarding universal design issues.Keywords: adaptation; left handers; writing activity; drawing activity

    Pemanfaatan Produk Budaya Modern dalam Bentuk Game untuk Mobile Gadget sebagai Media Pelestarian Budaya Tradisional (Dengan Studi Kasus Kue Tradisional Jawa Barat)

    Kue tradisional merupakan salah satu produk budaya yang pantas diperlakukan secara setara dengan aset kebudayaan lainnya, antara lain dengan cara diakui dan dilestarikan keberadaanya. Namun demikian, seiring dengan perkembangan zaman dan terjadinya globalisasi menyebabkan masuknya nilai-nilai budaya asing ke tanah air. Di satu sisi, globalisasi tersebut menyebabkan makin tergerusnya nilai-nilai budaya lokal. Hal ini kemudian berdampak pada eksistensi kue tradisional yang makin menghilang. Terutama dengan banyak masuknya kue-kue lain yang merupakan produk budaya asing yang dikhawatirkan dapat menggantikan posisi kue-kue tradisional di hati masyarakat. Pada sisi lain, globalisasi memberikan pengaruh yang cukup baik pula. Di antaranya yaitu dengan makin mudahnya persebaran perkembangan teknologi. Masyarakat mau tidak mau menjadi semakin mawas akan keberadaan media-media digital, dan mulai terbiasa dengannya. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan upaya pengenalan kembali nilai-nilai budaya lokal, pada kasus ini kue tradisional dengan studi kasus jajanan pasar di Jawa Barat, kepada remaja dengan memanfaatkan perkembangan teknologi. Game dirasa merupakan bentuk teknologi yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media pengenalan budaya kepada remaja dengan metoda pendekatan yang menyenangkan dan tidak menggurui.Kata kunci: budaya; game; globalisasi; kue tradisional; remaja.Traditional cake is one of cultural product that deserves to be treated equally with other cultural asset. One of the attempts that can be done is by giving it acknowledgement and sustaining its' existences. However, the rapid development of technology causes globalization and foreign value to infiltrate this country. On one side, globalization causes the local cultural to be scraped and forgotten. This might as well lead to the vanishing existence of traditional cake, particularly with the spread of other foreign cake and the apprehension that they would take over traditional cake in citizen's heart. On the other hand, globalization also gives a positive influence, such as the better access of technology. As a result, people become more aware of the existence of digital media and started to get used to it. Therefore, an attempt are needed to reintroduce local culture, in this case, traditional cake with case study West Java's Street Snacks, especially to teenagers, by taking the advantage of technology.
