Collaborating Field-Based Task and Peer Tutoring in “Introduction to CourseI’’to Improve Students’ Learning Achievement at the Economics Education Department of State University of Malang
The course on Introduction to Accounting Iis one of the compulsory courses for students to take at the Faculty of Economics. Many students find the materials in this course difficult. Field- based task and peer tutoring are used in this course in order to improve student’ learning achievement. The study employed a quasi-experimental method, undet the pre-test and post test design. The population consisted of nine classes, and three of them were chosen as the sample through a purposive sampling method. Two classes were treated as the experimental groups, while one class was chosen as the control group. Collaborating field-based task and peer tutoring turns out to be effective in improving students’ learning achievement on Introduction to Accounting Course I. The strategy requires students to be more responsible with their individual as well as group tasks, and this helps to accelerate the development and the independence of the students. In addition, the strategy also improves collaboration and cooperation among students, which is helping each other in improving their skills. Fakultas Ekonomi sebagai lembaga baru di lingkungan Universitas Negeri Malang, langkah awal pengembangannya perlu memperhatikan posisinya sebagai pemain baru dan faham secara maksimal akan posisi yang dimilikinya. Sebagai pemain baru langkah awal vang ditempuh adalah upaya untuk menata aspek kelembagaan sebagai komitmen terhadap kepercayaan yang diberikan oleh pemerintah Keunggulan komparatip yang dimiliki sebagai salah satu perguruan :tnggi negeri, pengalaman pengelolaan program kependidikan sebagai modal awal dalam mewujudkan visi dan misinya. Pemahaman akan posisinya dengan menggali sejumlah keterbatasan yang dimiliki sebagai upaya untuk mendeskripsikan program kegiatan yang perlu dikembangkan. Pemahaman tentang kualitas input yang tercermin dari keketatan iewat jalur UMPTN, kualitas proses akan berpengaruh terhadap kualitas output. Faktor SDM, perpustakaan, kemitraan dan sarana penunjang yang lain perlu dikembangkan terus. Ceruk pasar input perlu dianalisis dari aspek peminat yang ada dan ceruk pasar output perlu dirumuskan karena indikator masa tunggu lulusan sebagai salah satu perwujudan pengembangan keunggulan komparatip kepada keunggulan kompetitip. Tracer Study as a Basis for Policy Development of Quality Services for Alumni of The State University of Malang
Tracer study is a study to obtain sufficient information about the existence alumni. The information is obtained relating to occupations after graduating from UM, especially about the type of work, the waiting period of employment and income. Implementation of the tracer study at UM is designed through the website: tracer.um.ac.id. Alumni will be contacted via email or SMS in parallel through hand phone number database that has been recorded in UM information system. Alumni will be guided through the website to fill out the questionnaire. The objective of the tracer study are (1) Find more information about the transition from higher education into the world of work. (2) Getting information about the relevance of competence obtained from UM to the needs of the work force qualifications. (3) Getting information about the satisfaction of the alumni of the State University of Malang. (4) Getting information about the situation of the horizontal and vertical harmony of UM graduates. The activities that have carried out are (1) Create a database of graduates each study program of complete with e-mail and hand phone number. (2) Send e-mail to alumni, to complete a questionnaire on the website: tracer.um.ac.id (3) Send SMS on alumni to complete a questionnaire on the website. (4) Send questions via SMS, for alumni who cannot access the internet. In the last three years (2009 - 2011) the number of graduate degree programs 10,464 person, the target tracer study in 2012 graduated in 2009 end 2010 (6015 person). This activity will be conducted in a sustainable under the coordination of the vice rector III. Management data will be processed by the management of IT-based information systems. Data will be analyzed at the end of October 2012. The obstacles, many mobile phone numbers and email alumni who are not active. Student's home address is not complete and does not have a telephone network
DEVELOPING A BEHAVIORAL LEADERSHIP STYLEIN PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES WITH RELIGIOUS AND NON-RELIGIOUS VISIONS IN EAST JAVA, INDONESIA
This article is aimed to describe behavioral leadership stylesin private universities with religious and non-religious vision as an attempt to improve the private university performance. This research used qualitative research approach (descriptive approach) and product development research. The research respondents were principals and staffs of six private universities in East Java. The technique used to collect the data was interview. The data was analyzed by using interactive style. The finding of the research showed that the leadership style in private universities with religious and non-religious vision generally used more democratic, transparent, and open leadership. The development of leadership style in private universities had produced a leadership style which oriented to dynamics of individual, group, organization, and society. Those dynamics had successfully created more harmonious and dynamic academic atmosphere to improve the institution performance. Siparti 3-S, Triple Helix, and Social Capital in Strengthening Local Competitive Industries
Siparti 3-S, Triple Helix (TH) and Social Capital(SC), are perceived relevance appropriate paradigms in the context of strengthening local competitive industry product. This article explain analytically the notion of employing these paradigms in designing, constructing, and delivering small industry empowerment programs in indonesia. Synthesis of Siparti 3-S generated from the author's view and experience as a researcher and cosultant on the development of small industry in est java. Critical analysis of TH based on the orientation and goal of triple helix model (THM). The existance and role of SC percived as the glue and lubricant as well in the connection of Siparti 3-S and TH. MODEL PEMBELAJARAN RAMAH TEKNOLOGI
Globalisasi di berbagai bidang serta perkembangan teknologi informasidan komunikasi yang semakin canggih dan terjangkau harganya patut untuk dipertimbangkan dalam upaya meningkatkan kualitas pernbelajaran peserta didik. Pembelajaran konvensional yang lebih menekankan pada pola pikir behavioristik-obyektif, dimana guru menjadi satu-satunya sumber belajar siswa menjadi kurang cocok untuk menghadapi dunia yang semakin dinamis. Pemanfaatan multi media dengan teknologi mutakhir menjadi salah satu alternative untuk meningkatkan pembelajaran. Misalnya, perkembangan teknologi internet memberikan peluang pembelajaran melalui e_learning. demikian juga perkembangan teknologi mobile, khususnya handphone, IPod. IPhone dengan jaringan yang mampu menjangkau sampai pelosok tanah air sangat memungkinkan untuk dapat digunakan untuk kegiatan pembelajaran. THE SUPPLY SHORTAGE OF ACCOUNTING GRADUATES IN INDONESIA: THE PUBLIC ACCOUNTING FIRMS PERSPECTIVE
Indonesia has a low number of public accountants and accounting firms although it has abundant accounting graduates. This study investigates the difficulties of public accounting firms in Indonesia to recruit accounting staff. Partners or human resource managers from 35 public accounting firms were interviewed and it was found that the majority of accounting firms faced difficulties in recruiting accounting staff, both in the quantity and the quality of fresh accounting graduates. Three major problems were identified as the factors contributing to this difficulty. First, a low salary compared with other occupations. Second, misinformation about the workload in public accounting firms. Third. students’negative perceptions about public accounting profession. These findings give an indication that accounting education needs to be improved to build a positive perception toward accounting professions. These findings may contribute to the practice by modifying the recruitment strategy to attract accounting graduates to work in public accounting firms. BUSINESS RISK MANAGEMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE: A REVIEW OF SHELL OIL SPILLS IN SYDNEY HARBOUR AUSTRALIA
Accordingly, this paper aims to evaluate the risk management conducted by the Shell Company which focuses on company’s effort to maintain good relationship with stakeholders in its environmental risk management. There were determinant factors in the successful risk management. The first factor is an efficient and effective implementation of risk management cycle. Secondly, a practice of risk management phase. The third factor is effectivesocial activities. The fourth factor is a significance of risk management application since the establishment of company. The fifth factor is an importance of efficient and effective communication with stakeholders. Reaksi Investor Atas Corporate Governance Perception Index (CGPI) 2011
The objective of this study was to determine the capital market reaction on the announcement of Corporate Governance Perception Index (CGPI) 2011. The variables used in this study were stock prices over the closing price and trading volume of shares. The type of analysis was comparative descriptive study which compared the stock price and trading volume before and after the CGPI 2011 award-winning announcement for the companies listed in IDX. Observations were made during the period of 10 trading days; five days before and five days after the CGPI 2011 announcement. The data analysis instrument used in this study was the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test with significance level a = 5%. The results showed that there was no difference between stock prices before and after the announcement of CGPI 2011, there were differences in the trading volume activity before and after announcemen t of CGPI 2011 at the companies of CGPI 2011 winners that were listed in IDX. Based on these results, it could be concluded that stock price of the sample companies could not be affected by the information content of CGPI 2011 because the sample companies were fundamentally strong companies. The award announcement could affect the shares trading volume in the capital market. Key words: corporate governance perception index, stock price, trading volum
