Formulation aspects and potential therapeutic applications of cannabidiol-loaded nano-formulations
Nanotechnology is one of the most promising technologies
of the 21st century and offers opportunities in all areas of
scientific research, such as medicine, pharmaceutical and
cosmetic sciences, medicinal chemistry, bioengineering,
genetic engineering and food technology. Nanocarriers and
innovative pharmaceutical formulations play a significant
role in improving the bioavailability of drugs or natural
molecules, with a specific enrichment at the target site (Pires et al., 2022).
Also, nanocarriers have been used as a potential platform for the targeted delivery of various
phytocompounds, including cannabidiol (CBD). Nano-
delivery systems help in improving the stability of
phytocompounds, enhance their absorption, protect them
from early enzymatic deprivation or metabolism within the
body, and extend their circulation time, thus limiting the
various adverse effects (Assadpour et al., 2023). The
modified nanocarriers improve the solubility and
permeability, and assist in the sustained delivery of CBD to
the targeted diseased sites, thus improving the
bioavailability. The cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive
cannabinoid isolated from Cannabis sativa L. and that has
not been shown to have any intoxicating effects. CBD
inhibits excitotoxicity and modifies cellular activity by
binding to CB1, CB2, and 5HT1A receptors. Numerous
illnesses, including neurological and metabolic disorders,
have been linked to CBD's anti-inflammatory and
antioxidant qualities. According to the Biopharmaceutics
Classification System (BCS), pharmacologically active CBD
intended for oral use is classified as Class II, due to their very low water solubility and high lipophilicity (12.6 mg/L, logP 6.3, pKa 9.29). CBD has a very poor oral bioavailability in plasma and tissues (around 6% and 1%, respectively) due to its high lipophilicity, sensitivity to light, and major breakdown in the duodenum (Barbara et al., 2021).

A case of retroperitoneal abscess in crohn’s disease patient due to acute appendicitis
Acute appendicitis is a common and well-recognized condition that is overly easily managed. However, at times it can become significantly complicated and thus life-threatening. Acute appendicitis can present atypically with findings such as peritonitis and even abdominal abscesses. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that may occur in the alimentary tract and has various clinical courses. It is characterized by several complications, including bowel strictures, bowel obstruction, fistulas, abscesses, and hydronephrosis. However, these two conditions when affecting the same person can be easily misinterpreted in favor of Cron`s disease and lead to life-threatening events. We present a case of a 62-year-old female patient previously diagnosed with Crohn's disease, who was hospitalized due to a clinical presentation of acute abdomen, diffuse lower abdominal pain, back pain, pain in the right femoral region, urge to vomit and elevated body temperature for the last 3 days. Laboratory results revealed leukocytosis and an elevated C-reactive protein level. The abdominal ultrasound and CT scan revealed liquid collections in right paracolic space and Douglas`s pouch. Surgical treatment with an urgent exploratory laparotomy followed by appendectomy was performed. The retroperitoneal abscess was drained through fistulous communication in the inguinal region, followed by generous lavage of the abscess cavity in the following days. On the thirteenth postoperative day, the patient condition worsened with findings of pneumoperitoneum and liquid collection in the abdomen, on the control abdominal CT scan аnd a re-operation was performed. The intraoperative findings were perforations of the ceco-ascending part of the colon and distal part of the ileum. A right hemicolectomy with temporary ileostomy was performed followed by improved and stabile postoperative follow-up. After 1 month, the patient was discharged in good general condition. This is a complex surgical case where the patient on one side suffers the Crohn’s disease, which histologically is characterized by transmural inflammation of the gut with high risk for fistula and abscess formation. On the other side, even though the appendicular involvement in Crohn's disease is a relatively frequent event (21%), the clinician's focus solely on Crohn`s disease rather than on acute inflammation of the appendix. This case should raise the surgeon`s awareness in patients with Crohn`s disease in the setting of retroperitoneal and inguinal abscesses to avoid delayed treatment with life threatening complications. The diagnostic tool of choice is abdominal CT scan, with rapid evaluation followed by adequate treatment as the key to the survival of the patient
Wi-OPS: Integrated Platform for Military Tracking
Wi-OPS (Wi-Fi Operative Positioning System) is an integrated platform designed for real-time military tracking and situational awareness in complex operational environments. The system combines Wi-Fi sensing, artificial intelligence, and advanced data analytics to detect, identify, and monitor the presence and movement of subjects with high accuracy. By utilizing existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, Wi-OPS enables effective tracking in urban and enclosed spaces where traditional surveillance systems may be limited. Its ability to filter static objects and focus on dynamic movement significantly enhances operational efficiency, supporting tactical decision-making, force protection, and intelligence operations
Plant derived essential oils as eco-friendly alternatives of synthetic pesticides
Essential oils are natural, aromatic compounds extracted from plants, known for their complex chemistry and powerful biological activity. Over the past few decades, they’ve emerged as promising candidates for eco-friendly pest control substances in agriculture. With proven effectiveness against a wide range of pests, including fungi, bacteria, insects, nematodes, and mites, essential oils offer a natural alternative to synthetic pesticides. Their strength lies in their diverse chemical makeup, particularly terpenes and related compounds, which can disrupt cell membranes and vital processes in plant pathogens. However, despite encouraging research, only a few EO-based products have reached the market. Challenges such as inconsistent chemical profiles, limited biomass availability, formulation issues, and regulatory barriers continue to hinder their wider use. Still, there is growing interest in overcoming these obstacles through cultivation strategies, improved extraction methods, and advanced formulations that enhance stability and efficacy. Recent studies also show that EOs can act as elicitors, enhancing the natural defenses in plants. The paper discusses the latest scientific literature on the biological activities of EOs from medicinal plants against plant pathogens, pests, and weeds, their chemical composition, and modes of action. Additionally, the review explains both the benefits and limitations of using EOs as alternatives to synthetic pesticides, as well as the regulatory and approval processes involved.

Placing Museum collection in contex:Historical collection and their contemporary cultural and social relevance.
The paper provides a critical reflection of the agency
involved in collecting practice of museums and in shaping
meaningful entities that were visualized in the past, and how
they work today. Museums’ relation to the past, which is a
key part of the process how they convey the image of past to
the audience, i.e. how they present their own view of
history, covers the questions which history is preserved,
what narratives are constructed in the museum mechanism,
how they are transmitted and who they refer to. If we take
the view that museum collections are created in specific
socio-historical contexts, and in considering the agencies
that shape them, we are to necessarily consider the processes
generating those contexts in order to grasp the nature of the
practice, then, we have to acknowledge that the practice
itself may have a profound influence on shaping that very
context. Highlighting the notion of museum collections as
loci of encounter and negotiation between museum and
society, the paper provides insights into the paradigm shifts
of museum collecting in Macedonia and into its responses to
specific social demands from 1945 to the present.
Examining current strategies for bringing historical
collections to the public and how museums handle the
challenges of contextualizing them in today’s institutional
program, particularly in terms of identity and memory, the
paper proposes that if museums are considered as critical
instruments of fundamental social change, then providing
important public influence can only emerge from a clear
vision of their future course, which means that research into
contemporary cultural and social relevance of historical
collections must occur in the intellectual framework of the
museum and its objectives in society
