    A Review of Rural Tourism Development in the Context of Social Exchange Theory Application

    Rural tourism promotes sustainable development through economic, socio-cultural, and environmental means. To embrace rural tourism development, communities need to thoroughly evaluate the benefits and drawbacks associated with such changes. The challenges of this process entail assessing the consequences of the decision made in response to the social interactions occurring within the community. This study conducts a systematic review to identify research gaps in the application of Social Exchange Theory (SET), focusing on how attitudes, networking, and participation influence community decisions towards rural tourism. The findings reveal that these factors significantly shape local communities\u27 perspectives and involvement in tourism development. Concluding with a conceptual framework grounded in SET, the paper provides insights into how attitudes, networking, and participation can drive sustainable rural tourism and facilitate cultural heritage conservation

    SUSTAINABILITY STATUS OF VILLAGE FOREST MANAGEMENT IN PESISIR SELATAN REGENCY, PROVINCE OF WEST SUMATRA

    Indonesian law a recognizes new entity for forest management in the form of social forestry, which grants the right to manage to group of people, village management units, cooperative companies, and customary communities. In order to ensure the applicability and accountability it is important to assess the sustainability of Social Forestry management of Village Forests (HD) schemes based on ecological, economic, social and institutional aspects at the site level. This study aims to reveal the sustainability status of HD management in Pesisir Selatan District, West Sumatra Province as well as to determine the indicators that influence its sustainability. The Assessment of HD in the Pesisir Selatan District (Rap-KPSVforest) used a Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) approach in six cases of HD. The results show that HD Kampung Baru Korong Nan Ampek (KBKNA) and HD Taratak Sungai Lundang (TSL) have the highest sustainability value compared to HD Barung-Barung Balantai Selatan (BBBS), HD Lunang (L), HD Pondok Parian Lunang (PPL) and HD Lunang Tengah (LT). On the ecological dimension, the management of HD KBKNA and HD TSL is considered quite sustainable. However, in terms of the economic, social and institutional dimensions, HD KBKNA and HD TSL have less sustainable value compared to other HDs. Seven indicators are crucial for maintaining HD sustainability namely land cover, forest rehabilitation, sources of business capital, utilization of tourism potential, conflicts over management of yield utilization, distribution of workforce, status improvement of the Social Forestry Business Group (KUPS) as well as the comprehensiveness of the management plan. A multi-business scheme that combines forestry, tourism, agriculture and plantation which has become an integral part and the main source of community livelihood should be continuously developed. This will also increase the resilience of the six HDs because they will not only rely on the agricultural and plantation sectors.    Key words: multidimensional scaling (mds), rapfish; social forestry; sustainability; village fores

    The Home Garden System as a Source of Cultivated Plant Species Diversity and Their Developmental Uses: A Case Study in Lubang Buaya Area of East Jakarta

    Optimizing a home garden is one way to create tenacity, which can be cultivated for plant diversity and is used in daily life as part of food or energy security, especially in urban areas. For example, in Jakarta, chiefly in the Lubang Buaya areas, at least October 2020 to November 2020 are needed to collect data in the field on the methods used to inventory, identify, and analyze plant species diversity in cultivated and used home garden systems. Hence, direct observation and in-depth individual interview methods are steps in data collection as well as in the field, where at least 10 families will become respondents in this research. The results of this research have identified some of the plant species in all of the dwellings’ home gardens—at least 50 plant species from 144 of the 10 dwellings\u27 home gardens—and their use by local people in their daily lives. For example, which plant species (22.6%), plant species of spice species (8.4%), plant species of ornamental species (2.6%), and plant species of fruit species (14.3%) were used as medicinals by local people at least 32.1% more than the other plant species? The use of home gardens to meet the demands of a family currently has many needs. Because of the role and contribution of home gardens, which are advantageous in economic, social, and ecological aspects, they are also part of the goals of social resilience systems

    IDENTIFICATION OF BIRD SOUND AS THE TOOLS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY MONITORING IN GREEN OPEN SPACE

    The presence of a bird community can be used as a bioindicator of environmental quality in suburban areas. Bird identification from sound recording has developed in the last decade. This research aims to analyze the quality of green open space in the suburban area of Sleman Regency based on bird acoustic analysis. Data collection was carried out from November 2020 to March 2021 on river borders and city parks. Bird sound data was carried out using a mobile phone, facilitated by the Arbimon Touch application, in the morning, afternoon, and evening at intervals of five minutes on and ten minutes off for five days. The sound recordings and spectrograms were identified and validated through the database on the xeno-canto website. The identified birds are then used to calculate the Bird Community Index (BCI). The analysis of sound recordings found 29 bird species from 18 families in the sampling location. In addition, four birds were recorded as vulnerable or protected. The Progo River Border is the green open space with the highest species number of birds, but the Kayen river border and the Taman Keanekaragaman Hayati dan Arboretum Bambu have the best environmental quality to the presence of the higher specialist bird. Based on the bird community index, the environmental quality of the GOS in the suburban area of Sleman Regency has a moderate to very low level of environmental quality due to the low presence of specialist birds

    Mount Rinjani is a mountain located in Mount Rinjani National Park and is popular as a hiking tourist destination. The Torean Trail is one of 6 hiking trails on Mount Rinjani that has potential ecotourism hazards, namely physical hazards, biological hazards, and human activity hazards. The purpose of the study was to identify and assess potential hazards in hiking activities on the Torean trail based on physical, biological and human activity aspects. The type of data collected is data on potential physical, biological and human activity hazards that may pose a risk, the incidence of accidents, and the location where the hazards are found. Data were collected through literature study, field observations, and interviews. There are 3 kinds of hazards found in the Toreab Trail, namely physical hazards, biological hazards, and human hazards. These hazards can threaten tourists when hiking through the Torean Trail

    STRATEGY ON SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD COMMUNITY AFTER IMPLEMENTATION CONSERVATION PARTNERSHIP IN NATIONAL PARKS BANTIMURUNG-BULUSARAUNG

    The livelihood system is an effort to make a living carried out by an individual or household to live by utilizing the resources they have. From the change in the status of the area, namely from a protected forest to a national park, the community experienced a decline in the livelihood system so the government issued a program for community empowerment as well as forest area conservation through a conservation partnership permit. The purpose of this study is to analyze sustainable livelihood strategies based on available assets or capital. This research method uses qualitative and quantitative analysis through 3 stages, namely the input stage, the matching stage, and the decision stage. The results showed that from the conservation partnership villages, namely Labuaja, Rompegading, Barugae, Patanyamang, Mattampawalie, Patanyamang and Wanua Waru, had the highest assets and capital. From the analysis of internal and external factors, the most influential on this livelihood system is the external factor with a score of 4.26. After analyzing these factors, the SWOT analysis shows that the community\u27s livelihood system is in the Growth-Oriented Strategy (Quadrant I). QSPM analysis shows that the four emerging strategies are survival strategy, consolidation, and accumulation and shows that the highest strategy with a score of 0.72 is the running strategy. The conclusion is that the sustainable livelihood strategy that is considered the most capable of improving the community\u27s livelihood system in this conservation partnership permit is a strategy

    Cities are centers of economic activity that can attact people to seek livelihoods, thus causing an increase in urbanization and an increase in population density. High population density in urban areas will mainly have an impact on individual stress levels. The steps involved in designing a landscape are inventory, data analysis, ideas and concepts, and the design process. Accessibility to Taman Hutan Kampus is relatively easy because of the position of Taman Hutan Kampus which is directly adjacent to the main road. The average of LAI value is 0,480-1,548 which belongs to the low canopy density. Respondents showed a positive response to Taman Hutan Kampus as healing forest. The design is made to accommodate spaces that create activities based on the needs of visitors, namely induction area, active area, and therapy area. Activities that can be done to support healing activities are enjoying the beauty of nature by walking, speaking positively, using all the sense to feel tree textures, and relaxing the mind

    ETHNOBIOPROSPECTING OF THE MALAY COMMUNITY IN LINGGA SUB-DISTRICT, LINGGA DISTRICT, RIAU ISLAND

    The life of the Malay community in Lingga District cannot be separated from the very close interaction with the natural resources around it, namely interactions related to the use of plants and animals. The knowledge of the Malay community in the Lingga sub-district in the use of plants and animals is important to be studied and documented so that the knowledge of the community can be sustainable for posterity. This study aimed to identify and describe the ethnobioprospecting of plant and animal species based on utilization by the Malay community in Lingga District. Data were collected using in-depth interviews, analysis of vegetation to determine the potential of plants, and field observations using exploratory surveys to determine the potential of animals. The number of plant species from the results of vegetation analysis in several forest ecosystems in Lingga District was obtained as many as 110 species from 60 families. The utilization of plants by the Malay community in the Lingga sub-district can be categorized into 11 categories with the most species, namely plants as food (111 species) with the most families, namely Fabaceae (36 species). The use of animals can be categorized into six categories, most of which are food sources.     Habitat Characteristics and Roaming Area of Proboscis Monkey in Bukit Semujan Swamp Forest Danau Sentarum National Park

    The proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus Wurmb. 1787) is an endemic and endangered primate, also very depends on its habitat characteristic. This study aims to identify habitat characteristics and roaming area of proboscis monkey. Located at Bukit Semujan within Betung Kerihun Danau Sentarum National Park, during January 2022. The methods use in this research are using scan sampling and ad libitum sampling for daily activities, roaming area of proboscis monkeys are acquired using GPS, and the vegetation type in the habitat where proboscis monkeys are active are inventoried using the checkered line method with the plot size 20 x 20 m. Research was resulted that the proboscis monkey at Bukit Semujan only found in swamp forests with daily temperatures ranging from 25,8˚C–26,9˚C and daily humidity between 97%-99%. Vegetation like Shorea blangeran is dominant and important species that occurred in swamp forest surrounding at Bukit Semujan. The species diversity in the swamp forest classified as moderate (2.76), the species evenness and the species richness index are classified as high (0.90 and 4.02). The diets of proboscis monkeys found in this study are six flora species such as kawi (Shorea blangeran), engkurun (Xanthophyllum affine), ensubal (Elaeocarpus mastersii), kenarin (Diospyros coriaceae), putat (Barringtonia acutangular), tembesu (Fragrea fragrans). One group of Proboscis monkey roaming area calculated to be 13.22 ha with daily range have an average of 579.2 meters. Sleeping trees and the edge of the swamp forest have distance 50 m with the night position shift calculated to be around 216.92 meters

    NATURAL REGENERATION OF POST FIRE LOWLAND TROPICAL FORESTS IN THE GRAND FOREST PARK SULTAN THAHA SYAIFUDDIN JAMBI

    Indonesia\u27s lowland tropical rain forests are rich in endemic species. One of the problem is lowland forests often experience degradation due to excessive exposure and forest fire. Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin Grand Forest Park or Tahura STS is a part of tropical lowland forests which often experience fires, thus reducing its quality so it needs to be restored with regeneration efforts. The purpose of this study is to get data and information about the potential for lowland forest regeneration in Tahura STS after forest fires. This research was conducted for 8 months from March to October 2021 with location in Tahura STS and Jambi University. Researchers were carried out by making a 20x20 meter nested plot placed on 5 transects along 300 meters for each transect. Each transect contains 6 plots with a placement of 50 meters between plots. From research in the field obtained as many as 143 plant species from various growth stages ranging from seedlings, stakes, poles, trees and basic ground vegetation. These results indicate that the diversity of plants in Tahura STS is high to moderate while the evennes index shows that the plant community in Tahura STS is a stable community. In the early stages it can be concluded that the potential for natural regeneration in Tahura STS is very likely to occur as long as the damaging process is reduced and eliminated
