New Light on the Correspondence of Abimilki, King of Tyre. Ägypten und Levante|Ägypten und Levante XXXI 31|

    No full text
This article discusses the chronological sequence of the eleven letters of the kings of Tyre (EA 146–155, 295) and the history of Tyre in the Amarna period, as it has emerged from the re-dating of the letters. The article also suggests that Abimilki was a Tyrian prince sent as a hostage to Egypt and, following the crisis of succession, chosen by Amenhotep III to sit on the Tyrian throne. The education and cultural background to which the king was exposed in his youth, in the Egyptian court, explains the unique characteristic of the Tyrian letters within the Amarna correspondence. The article also describes the history of Tyre from the later years of Amenhotep III to the later years of Akhenaten, and the contribution of the Tyrian letters to the history of the Coast of Lebanon in the Amarna period

The specific textbooks on Pandect law were a characteristic element of the German Pandektistik. It is almost intuitively assumed that all these textbooks were written in German language. Considering them more closely reveals, however, that in the nineteenth century this kind of textbooks on the “Pandektenrecht” also existed in other languages than German, such as two textbooks published in Polish at the time, namely the two‐volume work “Pandekta czyli wykład prawa prywatnego, rzymskiego, o ile ono jest podstawą prawodawstw nowszych”, published by Józefat Zielonacki in 1862, and Ferdinand Źródłowskiʹs Pandect textbook from 1889 entitled “Pandekta prywatnego prawa rzymskiego”. Both textbooks were extensive and independent elaborations in Polish language, which, however, dealt with (German) Pandect law. According to the author of the article, both textbooks must be regarded as a key for exploring the Galician Pandektistik

Bismarckʹs Constitution is the basis of the most important example of a living monarchical federal state. In it, the monarchical position, even in the constituent states, is clearly more emphasized than in its Frankfurt predecessor of 1849 and left untouched in the text until 1918. On the other hand, however, this position is increasingly undermined by a development which, to the detriment of the constituent states, makes use of farreaching competences – as under the American Constitution – and, moreover, permits amendments and breaches of the constitution by simple majorities
