Bone meal is a natural source of calcium and phosphorus required for plant growth, but phosphorus can cause problems if they occur in high concentrations particularly will inhibit growth of mycorrhizal fungi. The aim of this study was to find the best diameter size and dosage of bone meal for increasing growth of forage legume Pueraria phaseoloides and for producing arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) Glomus etunicatum inoculant. A glass house experiment was laid out in a randomized block design consisted of 13 treatments (control and 12 combination of different diameter size and weight of bone meal) and replicated three times. Bone meal and artificial fertilizer resulted the same effect (P>0.05) on dry matter of P. phaseoloides. Application of 25–40 mg with <250 µm diameter significantly (P<0.05) increased dry matter production. Bone meal reduced significantly (P<0.05) root colonization but increased significantly number of spores compared to that of artificial fertilizer. Reducing bone meal diameter significantly increased root colonization and number of spores of AMF G. etunicatum

Central Kalimantan is one of the province passed by equator line. The temperature is relatively hot, during the day time is 32 0C and 23 0C during night time. The average rainfall index is 1900-3100 mm per year. This province has remarkably wide peatland area with strong acidity, high organic matter, and low fertility for plant cultivation. Various existing vegetation can be used as feed. Goats are able to utilize many type of grasses, leaves and tree bark. They have high ability to adapt various environments and eat many type of plants. Due to their browsing ability, goats can utilize tall bushes. The objective of this experiment was to study grazing behaviour of Crossed Local goats. The Pattern of grazing behaviour of goats can be used as a basis for managing animals and range land on the peatland areas. The experiment used 5 male goats aged 8-12 months and 5 females aged 10-24 months. Recording methode used One Zero with 15 minutes intervals. Data were analysed using Comparison of Two Samples or t-Test (t student) at level 5%. Result of research indicated that the goat activity in day time (09.00-16.00) was dominated by grazing activity (male 66,28%, female 60,82%). The goats spent more time for eating in the morning and evening (09.00-10.00 and 13.00-16.00). Grazing rumination and resting activities during investigation between male and female were not significantly different. Browsing is the most activity observed compared to other activities. Crop types are diverse in peatland areas. The result show that sasendok vegetation (Plantago mayor), Delingu (Dianella ensifolia sp.) and Kelakai (Stenochlaena palustris) were the most preferred vegetation by the goats on the peatland areas. Grazing adaptability of beef cattle on dwarf variety of late-heading type (DL) napiergrass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach) pasture was examined in summer season at Miyazaki, Japan in 2005. Five paddocks of DL napiergrass pasture with an area 2500 m2, (500 m2, per paddock) were established since May 2002. Three heads of raising beef cows (Japanese-Black) were rotationally grazed in a week with 4-weeks rest period from June to October. Forage dry yield at pre- and post-grazing averaged 238.6 - 582.6 g/m2 and 152.8 - 309.5 g/m2, respectively with percentage consumption averaged 42.5% - 71.6%. Forage consumption and dry matter intake averaged 14.5 - 50.9 g DM/m2/day and 2.42 - 8.48 kg DM/1 IU/day, respectively with average daily gain was 0,56 kg/day. Grazing adaptability of beef cattle on DL napiergrass needed time for about one week. Thus, the DL napiergrass pasture can be utilized under the rotational grazing at stocking rate of 12 head/ha (calculated 3600 kg LW/ha/day) in the summer season of subtropical area. Six grass species (Pennisetum purpureum, Pennisetum purpureophoides, Sorghum sudanense, Brachiaria brizantha, Imperata cylindrica, and Panicum maximum) were harvested at 49 days and preserved as silage or as hay. Samples of silage and hay were evaluated by an in vitro gas production and in vitro nutrient degradability. Total gas production at 24 and 48 h as well as CH4 were higher (P < 0.01) in silage than in hay. Brachiaria brizantha had the highest (P < 0.01) gas production compared to other species, whereas P. purpureum had the highest CH4 production (mM/g organic matter degraded). Dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) degradations were higher (P < 0.01) in silage than hay. When compared with hay, silage had higher (P < 0.01) ammonia-N concentration (20.3 vs. 10.6 mg/100 ml) and higher (P < 0.05) butyric acid concentration (7.9 vs. 7.0 mM). Non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) and crude protein contents were positively correlated with gas production (r = 0.51; P < 0.05) and CH4 production (r = 0.64; P < 0.01) at 48 h of in vitro incubation. However total gas and CH4 productions were negatively correlated with neutral detergent fiber (NDF) content. There were positive correlation between DM (r = 0.90; P < 0.01), OM (r = 0.93; P < 0.01), and NDF (r = 0.84; P < 0.01) degradations and gas production.
