Thin films with implemented molecular switches for the application in polymer-based optical waveguides
Complexes like iron (II)-triazoles exhibit spin crossover behavior at ambient temperature and are often considered for possible application. In previous studies, we implemented complexes of this type into polymer nanofibers and first polymer-based optical waveguide sensor systems. In our current study, we synthesized complexes of this type, implemented them into polymers and obtained composites through drop casting and doctor blading. We present that a certain combination of polymer and complex can lead to composites with high potential for optical devices. For this purpose, we used two different complexes [Fe(atrz)3](2 ns)2 and [Fe(atrz)3]Cl1.5(BF4)0.5 with different polymers for each composite. We show through transmission measurements and UV/VIS spectroscopy that the optical properties of these composite materials can reversibly change due to the spin crossover effect
Clinical Presentation, Bacteriologic Findings and Possible Risk Factors for Ischemic Teat Necrosis in Cattle—A Case Series
Ischemic teat necrosis (ITN) is a growing problem in the dairy industry characterized by teat lesions, necrosis, pruritus and automutilation. Despite the economic and welfare consequences, there is no treatment, and the etiology of the disease remains poorly understood. The aim of this study was to investigate ITN by analyzing its clinical presentation, potential risk factors and microbial involvement. Methods included collection of milk and swab samples from affected cows over a period of one-and-a-half years and completion of questionnaires by veterinarians and farmers. Microbial testing included PCR testing for Treponema spp. and cultural testing by anaerobic and aerobic incubation on blood agar. The results showed a high and significant prevalence of Treponema spp. and Staphylococcus aureus in affected teats compared to non-ITN-affected control teats, indicating their potential role in the development of ITN. Other factors such as edema and milking practices also appear to contribute to the tissue damage. First-lactation and early-lactation heifers are particularly at risk. In conclusion, ITN appears to have a multifactorial etiology with both infectious and non-infectious factors playing a role. Further research is needed to better understand the complex interplay of these factors and to develop effective prevention and management strategies
Handbook of Digital 3D Reconstruction of Historical Architecture
This open access book is a handbook for students, experts and interested parties who want to learn more about digital 3D reconstruction of historical architecture. The book provides answers to the core questions of the subject: What is a digital 3D model or a digital 3D reconstruction? How are they created and what are they used for? Practical instructions, condensed knowledge, explanations of technical terms and references to example projects, literature and further references provide information of varying density and thus enable an individual introduction to the subject.
The book combines extensive knowledge on the topic of "digital 3D reconstruction of historical architecture" and provides practical instructions for independent implementation. Up to now, there has been no cross-disciplinary vocabulary for technical terms in this field, so this publication makes a start.
The book is aimed at students, experts in the field and the interested public and offers various possibilities for the different target groups to delve deeply into the subject.
The book was created within the research network "Digital 3D Reconstruction as Tools for Research in Architectural History," which was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) from 2018 to 2023. The authors combined their expertise in the fields of art and architectural history, architecture, university teaching and media informatics

Fusobacterium nucleatum Abundance is Associated with Cachexia in Colorectal Cancer Patients: The ColoCare Study
Background: Cachexia accounts for about 20% of all cancer‐related deaths and indicates poor prognosis. The impact of Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn), a microbial risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC), on the development of cachexia in CRC has not been established.
Methods: We evaluated the association between Fn abundance in pre‐surgical stool samples and onset of cachexia at 6 months post‐surgery in n = 87 patients with stages I–III CRC in the ColoCare Study.
Results: High fecal Fn abundance compared to negative/low fecal Fn abundance was associated with 4‐fold increased risk of cachexia onset at 6 months post‐surgery (OR = 4.82, 95% CI = 1.15, 20.10, p = 0.03).
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that high fecal Fn abundance was associated with an increased risk of cachexia at 6 months post‐surgery in CRC patients. This is the first study to link Fn abundance with cachexia in CRC patients, offering novel insights into biological mechanisms and potential management of cancer cachexia. Due to the small sample size, our results should be interpreted with caution. Future studies with larger sample sizes are needed to validate these findings
Integrated Multi-Stereo Camera System for Robust Indoor Localization with Temporal Fusion
This paper presents a novel multi-stereo camera system for robust indoor localization, leveraging point cloud data and temporal fusion techniques. The system integrates three synchronized stereo cameras to capture point clouds from multiple angles, enhancing coverage and improving point cloud density in complex indoor environments. By combining data from different perspectives and accumulating point clouds over time, the method mitigates the limitations in the short range of point clouds derived from stereo cameras, ensuring broader coverage for effective localization. To manage the computational complexity of large-scale point clouds and reduce noise in accumulated data, voxelization is applied to downsample the point clouds while preserving key geometric features. The localization process is driven by a predictive point cloud odometry method, refined through the Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate the system’s ability to achieve accurate localization within a pre-built LiDAR map. This study highlights the feasibility of using low-cost stereo camera systems as an alternative to LiDAR-based solutions for indoor localization
