Constructing a design framework and design methodology from educational design research on real-world educational technology development
Educational design research (EDR) seeks to contribute to both practice and theory by developing solutions that improve educational practice and generating usable and generalisable knowledge. Most EDR researchers tend to focus on reporting their research contributions to educational practice. Therefore, there is a need for disseminating research that pays more attention to the theoretical contributions of EDR so that those outside a particular EDR project can benefit. This paper focuses on the theoretical contributions, particularly the design framework and design methodological knowledge, of a 6-year EDR enquiry that aimed to develop educational technologies that promote primary school mathematics learning and classroom practice. Informed by the literature and direct experiences of working in collaboration with teachers and various disciplines during this iterative study, a design framework for developing real-world educational technologies and guidelines for conducting EDR are proposed. The design framework highlights four essential aspects—content, pedagogy, practice, and technology—that should be considered when developing educational technologies to ensure their educational benefits, feasibility, and successful real-world utilisation and adoption. The proposed guidelines for conducting EDR, such as exploring design alternatives and employing appropriate design construction and evaluation methods, can assist other researchers, including a single doctoral student, in embracing opportunities and overcoming the challenges that may emerge

The paper explores the relationships between musical consumption and home among middle and popular urban classes in Argentina, from an ecological perspective, attentive to the environments in which these cultural practices unfold. The analysis is based on the house as a complex space of cultural consumption and investigates different music fans\u27 stories. From this perspective, their musical listening practices are described, considering the housing conditions in which they are conceived and modulated and the moments in the life cycle of those people who engage in them. This research has allowed to capture instances of musical socialization in which various personal strategies regarding music listening at home are presented and varying degrees of attention to the sounds of the house are managed. Thus, the exploration aims to characterize some of the effects of music on people’s daily lives, as well as to present a qualitative analysis of «musical consumption», recovering the practices, logics and contexts in which it emerges and takes on meaning. As a result, the dynamics of individuation and the domestic interdependence frameworks that are shaped with the uses of music in various socio-spatial contexts are characterized.
This article offers a qualitative and phenomenological case study of the piñata and its transformations as transcultural object, with a focus of its representations in Mexico, web spaces and social media. The piñata can be analyzed as a transcultural object within its different contexts and forms of representation: as craftwork, religious-popular practice during the posadas, central object of a short film, art gallery on Facebook and lootbox in Fortnite. We can observe, that the transformation processes of all the different forms of the piñata are direct results from the media contexts and cultural practices surrounding them. Therefore, we can testify a certain type of globalization and monetization for the piñata, as well as open practices as localized object and crafts.

Factual Conflicts and the Hegemony of Interpretation: Four Narratives and the Anthropologist’s Version
During ethnographic research on HIV-positive pregnant women in Lesotho, I found myself confronted with conflicting narratives, but what we do know is that MaMeli’s baby passed away the day after she gave birth in the hospital. Trying to reconstruct what had happened, I interviewed the young mother, her mother-in-law, a midwife, and a paediatrician. Their stories differed significantly from each other. Yet, despite the inconsistencies between them, they proved valuable for my study. Ethnographic storytelling can reveal an informant’s present view on past occurrences and give insights into the social roles of narrator and audience. A narration always implies two time periods: the past situation as experienced (erzählte Zeit) and the situation now when the occurrence is being interpreted (Erzählzeit). Hence, whilst analysing the stories did not bring me any closer to understanding what had happened to the baby, an examination of the four versions taught me much about each narrator’s present situation and how they related to each other. In other words, the different renderings of the event allowed an understanding of the hegemony of interpretation. I argue in this paper that contradictions in narratives are more a chance than a challenge for ethnographic writing. I call on anthropologists not to erase out inconclusive stories in their ethnographic data but to delve into them and to find plausible explanations for why it is not possible to achieve conclusive solutions
Negotiating Authority: Experiences with an Interview Series in Montevideo, Uruguay
This article reflects on the transformation of interview experiences into an ethnographic text. Starting point is a series of interviews with a resolute elderly woman who authoritatively gave me her view on the history of Ciudad Vieja, the historic centre of Montevideo, Uruguay. In what way can the story be told? How can the elderly lady’s voice and perspective be preserved and linked to my ethnographic narrative? In this paper I trace my way of maintaining the impetus of the interviewee’s narrative by using her account not only as a source for findings but by embedding her statements in a vignette
More-than-human Futures: Towards a Relational Anthropology in/of the Anthropocene
The term ›anthropocene‹ refers to mankind’s probably irreversible impact on the biosphere of the planet. It also heralds a renewed interest among anthropologists in environmental-human-relations. The paper argues that German-language European ethnology is called upon to reposition itself vis-a-vis these challenges
