ENGLISH: This essay presents some remarks about the monographic section "Institutions, relationships,
and political cultures in the cities along the border between the Papal States and the Kingdom of Naples (c. 1350-1500)". Through adopting a comparative approach, the three authors reflect on the spatial definition between the two border areas, also discussing the role of the pontifical
towns, the emerging local political cultures, as well as the specific features of the various urban centres examined in this anthology
ENGLISH: The Relazione by Isidoro Carini about his research mission in Spain (1881-1882) and the events of its publication allow to reconstruct the beginnings of both the use of Spanish sources for the
Sicilian and Italian medieval history and the context of the Sicilian medieval historiography at the end of the 19th Century
ENGLISH: In the "Historia de situ Ambrosianae urbis", written in the early fourteenth century, the notary Giovanni of Cermenate offered an unprecedented tripartite image of the Milanese contado: Seprio, north-west; Martesana, north-east; and a third indefinite “part” which can be identified with the plain south of the city, not exactly defined by Giovanni of Cermenate. The paper investigates such an absence, by linking it to the general weakness of collective identities provoked by the extraordinary economic development of the low Milanese plain
ENGLISH: A remarkable power of analysis grounded in superb documentary richness is manifested in this book. Cervelli in fuga.
349 páginasThe filmic body of work in Representations of the Authorial Figure in Cinema: the Writer as a Character –whose chronology covers mostly from the last decade of the twentieth century to the year 2017– addresses how cinema has portrayed the literary author. Structured in five chapters, the first one («From Modernity to Postmodernism») presents postmodernism as the theoretical framework that –once modernity is defined– encompasses the analysis of the selected stories. Based on the works by Habermas, Benjamin, Ritzer, Taylor or Eco, we explain the anthropological, sociological and artistic dimension of modernity as a project built on the empirical knowledge, the rise of feelings as part of the subject’s configuration and the search for creative independence. As far as postmodernism is concerned, Lyotard defines it as the moment where «the narrative function is losing its functors, its great hero, its great dangers, its great voyages, its great goal». However, despite the vagueness of its true nature –marked by the social networks representing the rhizomatic reality of Deleuze and Guattari–, it is possible to question the strength of its rupture with modernity. According to Lipovetsky, the subsequent hypermodernity would be distinguished by an increase in individual anxiety –revealed in the writer’s block suffered by screenwriters, novelists, poets and playwrights–.
This theoretical framework consolidates the second chapter of the thesis («The Postmodern Subject»). Based on Jameson, Ritzer or Charles, we reflect upon the alleged dissolution of originality into fashion, and we turn to Sibilia and Rodríguez Ibáñez in order to deal with the privacy’s trivializing in the digital era. For their part, we also describe the foucauldian notions of self-care which, since Graeco-Roman antiquity, have endured to the present day and, along with Augé, explain the link between the subject and the postmodern spaces.
Four out of the six films selected for the third chapter («Screenwriters: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood») are set on the classical period of the Mecca of cinema, whose labour context is elaborated in Banks’ book. The fight between the material need and the preservation of artistic integrity is common to the fourth chapter –focused on the novelists–, where the works of Balló, Bergala and Pérez about audiovisual seriality are essential to analyse the films. Also, Bourdieu’s and Zafra’s ideas on precariousness and the symbolic recognition received by feminised jobs complement those of Zecchi regarding visual representation of women’s bodies, as well as Gilbert’s and Gubar’s related to masculinity and authorship; to that we add bibliography which covers specifically some of the films. Finally, the last chapter collects examples of poets and playwrights; in the first case, we underline the simultaneity of everyday elements (Paterson and Poetry) with those linked to the supernatural (mother!), whereas playwrights are noted for their resolution in carrying on with their projects against any adversity –writer’s block in Synecdoche, New York, and the meddling of the Mob in Bullets over Broadway–.Fundación Oriol-Urquijo /
This project is about Ian Clarke, British flute player and contemporary composer for this instrument. The project begins with an approach of Ian Clarke’s life and work, taking into account his personal and musical context and the influences that define his
compositional style. Such research is complemented by the musical analysis of three of his works (The Great Train Race, Zoom Tube, Orange Dawn) and the subsequent conclusions. The last part of the project investigates the presence of his repertoire in
higher degree in music in Spain. For this, a study of the teaching guides and programmes of the centers that teach this degree is used, as well as multiple interviews with teachers and students who can verify the real situation of his repertoire, that is, if it is actually interpreted or not.
Effects of calcitriol and paricalcitol on renal fibrosis in CKD.
BACKGROUND: In chronic kidney Disease (CKD) the activation of the
renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and renal inflammation stimulate renal fibrosis and the
progression to end-stage renal disease. The low levels of vitamin D receptor (VDR) and its activators
(VDRAs) contribute to worsen secondary hyperparathyroidism and renal fibrosis.
METHODS: The 7/8 nephrectomy model of experimental chronic renal failure (CRF) was used to
examine the antifibrotic effects of treatment with two VDRAs (paricalcitol and calcitriol at
equivalent doses (3/1 dose ratio) during 4 weeks.
RESULTS: CRF increased the activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, renal
inflammation and interstitial fibrosis. Paricalcitol treatment reduced renal collagen I and renal
interstitial fibrosis by decreasing the activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system through
renal changes in renin, ATR1 and ATR2 mRNAs levels and renal inflammation by decreasing renal
inflammatory leukocytes (CD45), ADAM17 mRNA, TGF-β mRNA and protein and maintaining
E-cadherin mRNA levels. Calcitriol showed similar trends without significant changes in most of
these biomarkers.
CONCLUSIONS: Paricalcitol effectively attenuated the renal interstitial fibrosis induced by CRF
through a combination of inhibitory actions on the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system,
inflammation and epithelial/mesenchymal transition. This study was supported by Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) - Fondo de Investigación

This final degree work analyzes the Sonata for Violoncello solo by the Hungarian composer, Austrian nationalized, György Ligeti (1923-2006). Constructed in two movements, Dialogo and Capriccio, composed in 1948 and 1953 respectively, it belongs to the composer's Hungarian era, marked by the influence of Béla Bartók and his teacher Zoltán Kodály. Unlike the choral works composed at that time, which follow the official aesthetic, the Sonata for Cello solo shows a more evolved and transgressive language. The work would remain silent for more than 30 years, until it was performed in 1983, in Paris, by the German cellist Manfred Stilz.
Nowadays, it is considered by interpreters and critics as one of the great cello solo sonatas of the 20th century, alongside those of Kodály and Hindemith.
