    No full text
Objective Compare the different types of burns. Method Burns treated in the emergency room for 2 years were identified. The type, mechanism of production, treatment and evolution are analyzed. Results 472 patients were treated. Of these, 43% were chemical, 36.2% were thermal, 12.3% were solar radiation and welding (UV), 6.8% were abrasion / friction and 1.7% were electrical. The female sex predominates in thermal burns (p=0.036) and domestic accidents in thermal or electric burns (p<0.001). The extent of the burn is less in the chemical than in the electric and ultraviolet ones (p<0.001) and those of grade II are more prevalent in the thermal ones (p<0.001). The chemical burn impacts more on the eyes and thermal on the extremities (p<0.001). All have received topical treatment except electric ones (p<0.001). Electrical tests and abrasions needed more tests (p<0.001). Chemical burns remain less time in the Emergency Room (p<0.001). There were no differences in the need and number of follow-up days, or sequelae. Conclusions Chemical burns are more frequent. The treatment is determined by the type of burn and the area where it is produced. There are no differences in evolution.

Acceleration of Gradient-Based Algorithms for Array Antenna Synthesis with Far Field or Near Field Constraints

    No full text
This work presents a technique for the acceleration of gradient-based algorithms that employ finite differences in the calculation of the gradient for the optimization of array antennas. It is based on differential contributions, which takes advantage of the fact that when an array is optimized, each element is analyzed independently from the rest. Thus, the computation of the gradient of the cost function, which is typically the most time consuming operation of the algorithm, can be accelerated. A time cost study is presented and the technique is implemented, as an example, in the generalized Intersection Approach algorithm for array optimization in near and far fields. Several syntheses are performed to assess the improvement of this technique. In the far field, it is compared for periodic and aperiodic arrays using different approaches for the computation of the gradient, including the analytic derivative. A reflectarray is also optimized in the near field with the goal of improving its quiet zone. The technique of differential contributions shows important reductions in the time per iteration in all three syntheses, specially in that of aperiodic arrays and near field optimization, where the time saved in the evaluation of the gradient is greater than 99%.This work was supported in part by the European Space Agency (ESA) under contract ESTEC/AO/1-7064/12/NL/MH; by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades under project TEC2017-86619-R (ARTEINE), and through Programa "Clarín" de Ayudas Postdoctorales / Marie Curie-Cofund under project ACA17-09

Artículo científicoBased on a review of pottery collected from various archaeological sites in Asturias and Galicia, we present information that more accurately defines the development of pottery from Miranda. As in the case of other manufacturing workshops in Asturias, fundamental ethnographic and documentary analysis proved insufficient for tracing initial developments and confirming certain production characteristics, without a corresponding archaeological review. Our review demonstrates that early pottery from Miranda, before product specialisation, dates to the Late Middle Ages, and that distinctly traditional production emerged in the sixteenth century.

    No full text
Introduction The consumption of psychoactive substances or drugs by women has negative effects on their health. However, in case of pregnancy, problems will arise in the development of the fetus and dependence on the newborn, which may develop the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Description Addiction to drugs during pregnancy has consequences in the development of the fetus and can cause dependence on the neonate, resulting in the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, which is characterized by a set of symptoms and signs of hyperexcitability due to cessation of addictive substances. The nurse has an important role, not only in the early recruitment of pregnancy women who are consuming addictive substances, but also in the care of the nerwborn with neonatal abstinence. Conclusions Well-trained nurses play an important role in early detection of pregnant women with addiction and in the assessment of susceptible newborns to develop Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, as well as in the care of those who have already developed it, to minimize the effects and to help to improve the newborns’ well-being.

Efficient and Accurate Modeling of Reflectarray Unit Cells Using SVMs

    No full text
This paper presents a technique for an efficient and accurate characterization of dual-polarized reflectarray unit cells by means of Support Vector Machines (SVMs) to accelerate the analysis and optimization of this type of antenna. The goal is to accurately obtain the matrix of complex reflection coefficients using geometrical data of the unit cell. To this end, SVMs are employed to obtain surrogate models of those coefficients in an efficient fashion by employing a novel grid search which accelerates by three orders of magnitude the training process with regard to an exhaustive grid search. In addition, the precision of the surrogate model is tested against full-wave simulations assuming local periodicity obtaining a high degree of agreement. This work was supported in part by the European Space Agency (ESA) under contract ESTEC/AO/1-7064/12/NL/MH; by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (Spanish Government), under projects TEC2017-86619-R (ARTEINE) and TEC2016-75103-C2-1-R (MYRADA); and by the Gobierno del Principado de Asturias through Programa "Clarín" de Ayudas Postdoctorales / Marie Curie-Cofund under project ACA17-09.IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagatio

    Get PDF
ENGLISH: This article aims to examine the stability of Venice’s constitutional and political system during the late Middle Ages, by considering the question from a new perspective. The analysis of the documents relative to Marino Falier’s conspiracy (1355), has elucidated three factors of political, economic, and cultural nature that helped overcome the subsequent impasse: the immediate reaction of the institutions, the attention to the economic framework, the good management of the image and the memory of the episode. These three factors were ever-present, and are also evident in the other two serious political crises that occurred during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, although with a different intensity and quality
