edificio unico ed eccezionale” secondo il Comitato del Patrimonio Mondiale dell'Unesco, è il risultato fruttuoso di notevoli scambi di influenze tra le tre diverse culture tra regioni del Nord Italia, la Dalmazia e la Toscana nei secoli XV e XVI. Questi scambi hanno creato le condizioni per soluzioni uniche ed eccezionali per i problemi tecnici e strutturali della costruzione della volta e la cupola della cattedrale. In questo lavoro di ricerca si sono analizzate le malte di allettamento utilizzate nelle fasi costruttive legate alle varie fasi costruttive variate negli anni. La tipologia dei tre tipi di malte individuate, diverse tra loro, danno uno spazio interpretativo legato ai diversi protomagister che hanno eseguito i lavori. It was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000, because of its “structural features that make it a unique and exceptional building” according to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, it is the fruitful result of significant
exchanges of influences between the three different cultures between regions of Northern Italy, Dalmatia and Tuscany in the 15th and 16th centuries. These exchanges created the
conditions for unique and exceptional solutions for the technical and structural problems of the construction of the vault and the dome of the cathedral. In this research work we analyzed the mortars used during the construction phases linked to the various construction phases changed over the years. The typology of the three types of mortars identified, different from each other, give an interpretative space linked to the different Protomagisters who performed the works. Solimano, l’arte pagana del comando nella 'Gerusalemme liberata' di Torquato Tasso e la 'Historia belli sacri' di Guglielmo di Tiro
Get PDFThe present article discusses Torquato Tasso’s (1544-1595) representation of leadership in the Gerusalemme liberata (1581), which recounts the Christian army’s conquest of Jerusalem during the First Crusade (1095-1099). More specifically, this article focuses on pagan leadership, taking into account the Renaissance idea about the perfect prince and captain on the one hand, as Cinquecento intellectuals were attempting to shape the ideal Christian captain, and on the other hand Tasso’s use of historiography. Through a comparison with William of Tyre’s (ca. 1130-1186) Historia belli sacri (1170-1184), one of Tasso’s principal sources on the First Crusade, this article shows how Tasso manipulates the Historia in creating characters of leaders. From this new thematic angle, the article confirms the analysis of the complex character of Solimano, Sultan of Nicea, considering a particular aspect, i.e. his leadership. The article aims to demonstrate that Tasso distinguishes between ‘oriental tyrants’ and Solimano, adding heroic traits to the latter and drawing distinct parallels between the ‘Soldano’ and Goffredo

Si ribadisce in questa sede la nuova lettura proposta nel 2014 che, rivedendo le precedenti
interpretazioni, assegna alla piena età longobarda il testo e ribadisce la committenza del re Desiderio e della regina Ansa. L’iscrizione, infine, è posta in relazione con la prassi longobarda delle iscrizioni dedicatorie di committenza regia. / ENGLISH: The study of the inscriptions of San Salvatore di Brescia, in particular the inscription which mentions the Lombard king Desiderius, has reopened the question about the interpretation of the text. The new reading proposed in 2014, which has revised previous interpretations, dates the text to the late Lombard age. This paper upholds this new interpretation that attributes the commissioning to king Desiderius and queen Ansa. Finally, the epigraph is related to the Lombard practice of dedicatory inscriptions commissioned by royal patrons

il borgo nuovo di Alfonsina. / ENGLISH: We publish four (not discovered so far) documents, dated at between 1444
and 1451, kept at the Archive of the Corona de Aragón of Barcelona, produced by the chancellery of Alfonso of Aragon. These records concern the relations between the king of Naples and Guarino Veronese and his two sons, Emanuel and Jerome. What emerges is a picture of a very close and cultural relationship between the sovereign and the humanist Veronese. This relationship was characterized by a great respect and mutual esteem, that convinced the king to grant Guarino and his family some profitable administrative posts,
as well as prestigious recognition and privileges. The lecture of one of the Guarino’s letters, finally, permits of understand that it concerns the foundation of the new settlement of Alfonsina, in Calabria

Reflectarray Design for Satellite Applications with Very Low Cross-Polarization Requirements
No full textModern satellite applications for communications require a high polarization purity, usually with parameters such as the crosspolar discrimination (XPD) larger than 33dB. To achieve these values, some form of cross-polarization performance optimization must be carried out. The usual approach is to minimize the crosspolar component of the far field with regard to the copolar pattern in the region of interest. However, this generates suboptimal results since the figure of merit for cross-polarization performance, i.e. the XPD, is optimized indirectly. Thus, it is proposed to directly optimize the figure of merit to considerably improve the polarization purity of reflectarray antennas for satellite applications. For that purpose, the generalized Intersection Approach algorithm is used in a large reflectarray for a contoured beam application with European coverage. A frequency-tunable nanomembrane mechanical oscillator with embedded quantum dots
No full textHybrid systems consisting of a quantum emitter coupled to a mechanical oscillator
are receiving increasing attention for fundamental science and potential applications in quantum technologies. In contrast to most of the presented works, in which the oscillator eigenfrequencies are irreversibly determined by the fabrication process, we present here a simple approach to obtain frequency-tunable mechanical resonators based on suspended nanomembranes. The method relies on a micromachined piezoelectric actuator, which we use both to drive resonant oscillations of a suspended Ga(Al)As membrane with embedded quantum dots and to fine tune their mechanical eigenfrequencies. Specifically, we excite oscillations with frequencies of at least 60 MHz by applying an AC voltage to the actuator and tune the eigenfrequencies by at least 25 times their linewidth by continuously varying the elastic stress state in the membranes through a DC voltage. The light emitted by optically excited quantum dots is used as sensitive local strain gauge to monitor the oscillation frequency and amplitude. We expect that our method has the potential to be applicable to other optomechanical systems based on dielectric and semiconductor membranes possibly operating in the quantum regime
