An overview of service interface design approaches for interoperability of traditional system integration Patterns
One of the major issues in system integration is to deal with interoperability of legacy systems which use traditional
System Integration Patterns (SIP). Information are unable to exchange effectively when the systems involved comes
from developer that tended to not interoperate and this leads to the interoperability problem in heterogeneous system
integration. To address the interoperability issues, interfacing processes need to be made more easily by defining
components, processes, and interfaces that affect the system integration architecture at the initial design stage. This
paper includes a basic concept on types of traditional SIP covering File-Based, Common Database, Remote
Procedure Call (RPC), Distributed Objects, and Messaging. An overview of three Service Interface Design (SID)
approaches for systems interoperability is discussed. The discussions on these approaches serve as a basis for the
solution of interoperability of heterogeneous systems which use traditional SIP
Learning styles preferences using fuzzy logic system
Every individual has their own natural or habitual pattern of gathering and processing information in
learning situations. The different environment between school and university studies will pose a significant
impact on the learning style of students. The objectives of this study are to analyse the most preferred
learning style among first-year diploma students in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perlis Branch and
compare the preferred learning style among male and female students using the Fuzzy Logic System. There
were nine variable inputs in determining the fuzzy logic learning styles which are reading likeness, by
nature, thinking time, speaking rate, activity level, activity enjoyment, visual distraction, auditory
distraction and using instruction to obtain the VARK (visual, auditory, read/write, kinaesthetic) learning
styles output. The results showed that 32% of the students prefers visual learning styles based on the VARK
questionnaire while for the fuzzy inferences system, 40% of the students prefer visual learning style.
Additionally, 45% of male students preferred visual learning styles followed by reading/writing and
kinaesthetic learning styles of 20%. Among female students, 34% of them also showed preferred visual
learning styles, followed by reading/writing learning styles. It is concluded that the vast majority of UiTM
Perlis Branch students prefers visual learning styles in their studie
The concept of human capital_The core system in lifelong learning (LLL) among repeated offenders for drug abuse in Kelantan
Drugs have become a big threat to the country. For the development of our country, the increase in the number of inmates in prisons in Malaysia is something to be concerned about. It affects the development of the economy, education, and health. Apart from the increasing number of prisoners in jail, an increase in recidivism cases among prisoners in Malaysia is also alarming. This indicates that prisoners are undaunted when committing the crimes and lack of spirituality to help them to face the challenges after being released from prison. The aim of this study is to examine and identify the concept of human capital that is suitable for the formation of the Lifelong Learning Model in terms of spiritual guidance to ex-offenders for drug abuse. Furthermore, the study also aims to test and analyze the extent to which the level of understanding of Islam among the drug offenders in Malaysia and generate a Lifelong Learning Model based on the concept of human capital in terms of spiritual guidance. The study adopts qualitative methods by using a descriptive study which is based on the existing scenarios. The data is collected
from library sources including research on relevant documents, and observation. Therefore, this study also utilized a survey that aimed at studying the implementation of a lifelong learning model through the development of a human capital conceptual framework for ex-offender of drug abuse. Thus, a study is needed to develop and
produce a new model which is a lifelong learning model based on the human capital concept that focuses on spiritual development and guidance specifically for ex-offenders of drug abuse to address the increasing frequency of repeated offenses in Malaysia. This study provides a significant impact on the prisoners themselves, their
families, communities, and the country
Emotional Intelligence, Self-Efficacy and Job Performance of University Lecturers
Individuals with high emotional intelligence and high self-efficacy are capable in completing difficult tasks and subsequently, produce excellent job performances irrespective of how hectic their work situations are. This study looks at the correlations between emotional intelligence and job performance, as well as between self-efficacy and job performance among lecturers at a centre of foundation studies owned by a public university in Selangor. Due to its quite small population size, total population sampling technique was applied. Questionnaires were distributed to all 140 lecturers there, but only 86 lecturers completed them (response rate = 61.4%). The findings revealed there was a statistically significant and positive correlation between emotional intelligence and job performance, as well as there was a statistically significant and positive correlation between self-efficacy and job performance. All four emotional intelligence dimensions: regulation of emotion, self-emotional appraisal, use of emotion and others emotional appraisalas well as all three self-efficacy dimensions: teaching, research and other academic or service-related activities were also statistically significant and positively correlated with job performance. As for the implications of this study, it contributes to the corpus of knowledge in the area of emotional intelligence, self-efficacy and job performance among lecturers in Malaysia context
Utilizing WhatsApp Messenger to Enhance Listening Skills of Civil Engineering Degree Students in Mandarin Courses at UiTM Penang Branch
Listening skills are important skills that need to be mastered by foreign language learners. Listening skills have, how-ever, often been neglected in the teaching and learning process. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of us-ing WhatsApp messenger as an instructional tool in enhancing listening skills. This experimental research employs the two-group pre-test post-test design. Two groups of 30 students who enrolled in the Introductory Mandarin course in one of the public universities in Malaysia took part in the study. During the study, the experimental group of 30 stu-dents underwent listening drills and exercises using WhatsApp messenger as the treatment, while another 30 students in the control group were taught by another lecturer using the conventional method of teaching listening skills. Listen-ing test scores of before and after the treatment were compared and analyzed using Independent Samples t-Test to identify the significant level of the difference between the scores of these two groups. The findings show no signifi-cant difference in the listening pre-test scores between both control and experimental groups. However, after the treatment, the listening scores of the experimental group students are significantly better than that of the control group students. These results indicate that WhatsApp messenger is a useful instructional tool to teach listening skills in for-eign language. The findings of this study could be used as a reference for further development of WhatsApp messen-ger as an instructional tool to enhance listening skills, overcome the constraints on teaching time, and improve the pedagogy as well as the instructions of foreign language learning
Describing and identifying various constraints of participating in outdoor recreation activities among female students
A multilayer perceptron approach for Ficus carica (fig) ripening classificatiom
The ripening stage is a stage where the fruit is ready to be harvested. During
ripening, pectin activity is observed to trigger parenchyma cell wall middle
lamella dissolution of a fruit. Additionally, the ripening stage also affects the
changing appearance of the fruit. Thus, this research aims to develop a
classification model based on ANN that can predict or classify the ripening
stage based on either pectin activity or fruit appearance. The study will focus
specifically on Ficus carica (fig). To achieve the objective, the researchers
developed two Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) models: figNN and pectinNN.
We trained figNN using features extracted from images of figs with different
ripening stages, and pectinNN with a set of the statistical value of pectin
activity such as weight (W), brix of sugar (BS), extraction yield (EY), and
degree of esterification (ED) from 30 figs with varying degree of ripening.
From the result of this research, figNN and pectinNN can distinguish the
ripening stage based on either the chemical properties or the images.
Furthermore, we can also show that the image-based classification is more
accurate than the pectin-based classification. For future work, the study of
the correlation between pectin and image features is highly encouraged
