An experimental study on the growth of rubber seedling (Hevea brasiliensis Mull Arg.) after inoculated with various doses of indigineous Arbuscular Mycorrizhal Fungy (AMF) from Biology Forest Research Center (FRCB) Andalas University Padang has been done from February to September 2013 in wire house and Plant Physiology Laboratory, Biology Department, Andalas University, Padang. The study aimed to find appropriate doses of indigineous Arbuscular Mycorrizhal Fungy (AMF) to growth rubber seedling. The experimental used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments (control, 10, 20, and 30 g inoculants) and six replications. The results showed that 10 g inoculant gave significant effect to growth and dry weight of rubber stem due to high percentage of root infection. However rubber assosiatian with mycorrizha are less dependency. Keywords : rubber, AMF, inoculant, seedling growt

This study aimed of to find out the effect of leaf extract and seed powder containing alkaloid which occured on the production process of nata de coco. An experiment was conducted using Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with factorial pattern. The result showed that the brewed extract of tea, coffee, chocolate affected the weight product of nata de coco. The brewed extract of green tea showed the best result on weight of the nata (24.66 g) which has a significant difference from the treatments of black tea, coffee powder, cocoa powder, coffee leaf, and chocolate leaf. The best dose of brewed extract in obtaining nata was 2 g/100 ml.Keywords : alkaloid, nata de coco, effect

The study about “characterization of amilo-thermophilic obligat bacteria from Semurup Hot Spring†has been conducted from November 2013 to March 2014 in Laboratory of Microbiology, Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science, Andalas University, Padang. The purpose of this study was to find out and analyze isolate amilo-thermophilic obligat bacteria. The result of this study showed that isolate SII-7 from Semurup Hot Spring survived at 70 ºC, that produced amylase with unique macroscopic characters: random, cream and smooth surface. The isolate SII-7 was bacille, Gram positive, has endospore as a product, motility and catalase positive.Keyword: Characterization, thermophilic obligat, bacteria, amylase

Pengaruh Gambir (Uncaria gambir R.) Terhadap Penyembuhan Luka Bakar Pada Mencit Putih (Mus musculus L.) Jantan

An experimental study on the effect of Gambier (Uncaria gambir R.) on burned skin of male white mice (Mus musculus L.) was conducted at The Animal Physiology Laboratory Andalas University. This experiment used Complete Random Design (CDR) consisted of five treatments, i.e: 0.00%, 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00% and five replication with the observation lasted for 15 days. The results showed that Gambier gave significantly different effects (p = 0.004) on both the percentage of healing and the wound recovery. The highest percentage of wound healing was 94.783% and the largest diameter of wound recovery was 9.436 mm obtained at 0.50%  at 8 days.Keyword: Uncaria gambir, burned skin, wound recovery

Studi Morfometrik Hornstedtia leonurus (J.Koenig) Retz. (Zingiberaceae) dan Kerabat Dekatnya dalam Tribe Alpiniae di Sumatera Barat

    Get PDF
Hornstedtia leonurus is one species of the Hornstedtia’s genera in Alpiniae Tribe (Zingiberaceae). It has unambiguous expressed some aberrations of morphological characters in what Hornstedtia should have. On the contrary, it has with it self some characters from other genera within the tribe of Alpiniae, such as Etlingera and Amomum. The research aimed to find some distorsion on morphological characters of the H. leonurus with its close selected sisters in Alpiniae Tribe (Etlingera megalocheilos and Amomum cardamomum) and determined their were characters relationship by a morphometric study. The materials collected from West Sumatra province (50 Kota, Padang and Sijunjung regency) on September until December 2015. Morphometric analysis used PAST version 2.17c and SPSS computer programs. Morphologically, H. leonurus closely related with E. megalocheilos rather than its sister in Hornstedtia genera (H. schypifera) and A. cardamomum. Keywords: Alpiniae, H. leonurus, morphometric, relationship, Zingiberaceae

Agresi Provokasi dan Non-Provokasi pada Monyet Ekor Panjang (Macaca fascicularis, Raffles 1821) Terhadap Pengunjung di Kawasan Gunung Meru

The study on aggressive behavior of long-tailed macaques has been conducted from May to July 2016 at Gunung Meru, Padang, West Sumatra. This study aimed to compare between provocated and non-provocated aggressive behaviors of the macaques toward human visitors at Gunung Meru feeding site. This study used all-occurrence sampling method to record aggressive interactions from the macaques along the visitors behavior. One or more visitors were followed for ten minutes at the monkey feeding ground for a total 78.5 hours. The aggressive behaviors of long-tailed macaques either provocated or non-provocated were considerably high intensity level, including body contact and biting. Feeding contexts (i.e. food exposure, feeding, and contact feeding) become the main situation resulting provocative aggressions. This study suggest that monkeys and human visitors have a potential close contact and could be pathogen transmission

Perubahan Distribusi Populasi Dari Schismatoglottis lancifolia Hall. et Englar di Hutan Bukit Pinang-pinang

An investigation on the changes of individual number and distribution pattern of Schismatoglottis lancifolia Hall. et Englar at permanent forest plots in Bukit Pinang-Pinang has been carried out from September 2012 to December 2012. The results showed that populations of Schismatoglottis lancifolia was 51.63% decreased when compared to the previous observations in 1985. The distribution pattern of the species was clumped (Morishita Index : 3.2) that was similar pattern reported in 1985. Distribution pattern was influenced by relative light intensity due to topography variations. Keywords: Bukit Pinang-pinang, distribution population, Schismatoglottis lancifolia

Research about the vegetation analysis of weeds in corn (Zea mays, L.) plantation in maximal prepared land in Lima Puluh Kota Regency had been conducted from October to November 2013 by using systematic squares method of 10 total plots with size1x1 m. It was found 563 individuals weeds, consist of 10 families, 18 genera and 18 species. Echinochloa crus-galii showed the highest value of SDR (Summed Dominance Ratio) (29.33%) and Zizania ceduciflora (0.77%) in maximal prepared land. The diversity index was H'= 1.558 (moderate). This land was dominated by wide-leaf group of weeds. Keywords: Weeds, corn, composition, structure, lan

The study about compatibility of Glomus spores isolated from the rhizosphere Macaranga triloba with three types of host plants have been done from February to November 2013 in greenhouses and Plant Physiology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Andalas University, Padang. The aim of this study was to determine compatibility of corn (Zea mays), jatropha (Jatropha curcas) and scallion (Allium fistulosum) as host plants of Glomus spores isolated from the rhizosphere Macaranga triloba. This experiment used completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 9 replications. The treatments were corn, jatropha and scallion. The results showed that spore density of the corn and scallion gave the same effect, whereas jatropha gave different effects on the two plants. The degree of infection of corn roots and scallion showed a high criteria, while the percentage degree of infection on jatropha roots showed a moderate criteria. The corn and scallion were compatible host plants of Glomus spores isolated from the rhizosphere of Macaranga triloba.Key words: compatibility, host plants, Glomus spore
