Does Corporate Social Responsibility create value in acquisitions? Evidence from the German market
This paper examines the impact of a firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) level on abnormal stock returns around merger and acquisitions (M&A) announcements. Using a sample of transactions announced by German DAX-listed acquirers from 2017 and 2022, the analysis assesses whether CSR creates value for acquiring firms’ shareholders and offers a comprehensive discussion of potential factors supporting or opposing this notion. Our study seeks to fill a notable gap in the German literature on the relationship between CSR performance and abnormal stock returns surrounding M&A announcements. Building upon prior research findings in the US and in an international sample, our investigation focuses on the German market. Employing event study methodology, our results indicate that M&A transactions of German-listed acquirers did not yield significant negative or positive cumulative abnormal returns for event windows of 3 and 11 days. Furthermore, based on multiple linear regression, no evidence was found that CSR positively or negatively influenced abnormal stock returns following M&A announcements, suggesting that positive and negative effects potentially offset each other. The outcomes of our research have important implications for investors, as CSR initiatives do not serve as a positive trading signal, guaranteeing excess returns, which contrasts findings from previous studies in other developed countries. For managers, it is essential to concentrate on factors beyond CSR performance, such as synergies and fit. Finally, both managers and investors should not view CSR as a shareholder value-enhancing short-term investment but as an integral component of fostering sustainable business development

The methodology is conceptually based on relevant standards and approaches in the context of greenhouse gas accounting. It allows a systematic, production-synchronous, (partially) autonomous recording of greenhouse gas emissions from production and logistics processes based on product-related administrative shells
Development of an IALF overarching learning module for circular economy
The increasing importance of sustainable business models due to the scarcity of resources and resulting political regulations leads many companies and research institutions towards the concept of Circular Economy. Subsequently, the learning factory community is facing the challenge of expanding existing concepts to include Circular Economy in their learning factories. Therefore, a learning factory- and competency-based module for Circular Economy is developed by eight members of the International Association of Learning Factories to define a common ground. The module covers the basics of Circular Economy in the production environment and make it tangible through concrete use cases. To achieve these goals, extensive research on existing concepts has been conducted by IALF experts to analyze learning objectives and requirements in detail and derive required competencies. Based on that, the learning module is developed
"Arbeitswissenschaft-in-the-loop" : Mensch-Technik-Integration und ihre Auswirkung auf Mensch, Arbeit und Arbeitsgestaltung. - Keynote
Dynamically cultured, differentiated bovine adipose-derived stem cell spheroids as building blocks for biofabricating cultured fat
Cultured or cultivated meat, animal muscle, and fat tissue grown in vitro, could transform the global meat market, reducing animal suffering while using fewer resources than traditional meat production and no antimicrobials at all. To ensure the appeal of cultured meat to future customers, cultured fat is essential for achieving desired mouthfeel, taste, and texture, especially in beef. In this work we show the establishment of primary bovine adipose-derived stem cell spheroids in static and dynamic suspension culture. Spheroids are successfully differentiated using a single-step protocol. Differentiated spheroids from dynamic cultures maintain stability and viability during 3D bioprinting in edible gellan gum. Also, the fatty acid composition of differentiated spheroids is significantly different from control spheroids. The cells are cultured antibiotic-free to minimize the use of harmful substances. This work presents a stable and bioprintable building block for cultured fat with a high cell density in a 3D dynamic cell culture system
Integrating multiple knowledge-based automation methodologies into the A/MS IC design flow
Analog and mixed-signal (A/MS) IC design is still a largely manual process. It lags far behind its digital counterpart were synthesis methods automate many key design steps. This advantage in digital roots from the possibility of a high degree of abstraction with manageable information loss from which a highly systematic digital flow arose. Not only does it incorporate automation throughout, but it also links the individual flow steps by well-defined interfaces. In analog, to the contrary, both a comparable flow approach and automation is largely missing. Even though key design steps, such as schematic and layout, are meanwhile linked well, other important steps, like breaking down a specification to a suitable topology, are not yet in place. Therefore, design teams develop individual design approaches in order to handle the complexity of analog design all the way from specification to layout. A major challenge is the lack of reproducibility, which roots from the lack of expert knowledge stored in the design data. Thus, in this tutorial paper, we address the shortcomings of the A/MS design flow and discuss how knowledge-based automaton methods can both systematize and automate key design steps. Also, we discuss how the steps can be linked together in order to form a systematic design flow. Our proposed A/MS IC design design flow considers automation from specification over schematic level to the layout level
Using the german national medication plan for clinical studies in practice-based research networks
The German National Medication Plan (GNMP) can be a valuable and interoperable data source for clinical studies, due to its digital specification and mandatory provisioning for chronically ill patients. Digital transfer of a patients current GNMP from the Patient Data Management System (PDMS) into electronic case report forms would avoid error prone manual data capturing. It is also essential for studies in practice-based research networks (PBRN), where data capturing must have as little impact as possible on everyday practice. The following issues are currently preventing seamless digital integration: There is no standardized interoperable export of the GNMP from PDMS. In the current form, pharmaceutical catalogs are needed to decode the contained pharmaceutical registration numbers. As accessibility to the pharmaceutical catalogs is restricted, there is no generic access to the actual information needed for study data evaluation. In order to conduct studies, feasible workarounds for these issues had to be implemented in the standard operating procedures, tools and participating GP practices. To overcome the GNMP’s current lack of digital interoperability, the proposed solution combines semi-automated data export from PDMS at the GP practice and manual database search at the study center with a semi-automated processing pipeline to balance workload between GP practices, study management and evaluation
It’s a match : an exploratory study of success factors for business-to-business partnerships between German and Ghanaian companies
The extant literature has shown that business-to-business (B2B) partnerships are a critical enabler for foreign market entry, cost savings, and product and service quality. Given the lack of research on B2B partnerships involving companies from Africa and the Global North, this study explores the key success factors of partnerships between Ghanaian and German companies. Utilising a phenomenological research design, our qualitative approach involved interviews and focus group discussions with managers, consultants, and government officials in the international trade and business ecosystems of Ghana and Germany. We identify eight key success factors, the most frequently mentioned are trust, enterprise-level reputation, negotiation power, and country-level image. Based on our findings, we show avenues for future research on enduring B2B partnerships between companies from Africa and the Global North
