    Towards an Asset Performance Management reference framework for distributed industrial machinery

    In a complex and technology-driven business environment, managing the performance of distributed industrial machinery is crucial for operational efficiency and business viability. This paper presents an approach to developing an Asset Performance Management (APM) reference framework that addresses the unique challenges of distributed machinery, including the need for high quality data, trust issues with third party involvement, and the integration of IoT for optimal asset performance. The design requirements for the artifact were derived from the literature and verified and developed through expert interviews. The development of the framework aims to provide a structured approach to improving APM practices, reducing downtime, and boosting machinery performance. This offers businesses a competitive advantage and contributes to both practical and scientific fields. The reference framework could facilitate better decision-making and resource allocation, especially in handling geographic and maintenance complexities and navigating data management challenges. This research represents an advancement in the field of APM for distributed industrial machinery by addressing current challenges and proposing potential solutions. It paves the way for future research and industrial applications

The situation in the business conditions across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is very heterogenous, however, mostly on a low level by international standards. In the past few years, African countries have embarked on a dynamic journey of improving their business environment, increasingly facilitating business operations. Despite these positive developments in the business environment, like more efficient customs clearing processes and improving governance, in Sub-Saharan Africa, local and international companies still need to find operational work-arounds and often require business model adaptation to deal with challenges arising from the business environment

    Optimizing epoxy molding compound processing: a multi-sensor approach to enhance material characterization and process reliability

    The in-line control of curing during the molding process significantly improves product quality and ensures the reliability of packaging materials with the required thermo-mechanical and adhesion properties. The choice of the morphological and thermo-mechanical properties of the molded material, and the accuracy of their determination through carefully selected thermo-analytical methods, play a crucial role in the qualitative prediction of trends in packaging product properties as process parameters are varied. This work aimed to verify the quality of the models and their validation using a highly filled molding resin with an identical chemical composition but 10 wt% difference in silica particles (SPs). Morphological and mechanical material properties were determined by dielectric analysis (DEA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), warpage analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The effects of temperature and injection speed on the morphological properties were analyzed through the design of experiments (DoE) and illustrated by response surface plots. A comprehensive approach to monitor the evolution of ionic viscosity (IV), residual enthalpy (dHrest), glass transition temperature (Tg), and storage modulus (E) as a function of the transfer-mold process parameters and post-mold-cure (PMC) conditions of the material was established. The reliability of Tg estimation was tested using two methods: warpage analysis and DMA. The noticeable deterioration in the quality of the analytical signal for highly filled materials at high cure rates is discussed. Controlling the temperature by increasing the injection speed leads to the formation of a polymer network with a lower Tg and an increased storage modulus, indicating a lower density and a more heterogeneous structure due to the high heating rate and shear heating effect

    Control of cell adhesion and growth on polysaccharide-based multilayer coatings by incorporation of graphene oxide

    Controlling cell adhesion, viability, and proliferation on solid surfaces is critical for the successful implantation and proper functioning of temporary and permanent medical devices. While, with temporary or removable implants as well as surgical instruments, even slight cellular adhesion leads to an increased risk of secondary infections, bleeding and other complications, good cellular adhesion and viability are essential for the rapid healing and successful integration of permanent implants. This work was motivated by the growing interest in the construction of biocompatible and biodegradable coatings for the biofunctionalization of medical devices. Polysaccharide-based coatings are well known for their biocompatibility, but they are non-cell-adhesive, which hinders their application as implant coatings. In this study, we demonstrate that the incorporation of one or more graphene oxide layers in hyaluronic acid/chitosan multilayers is one avenue to regulate the degree of unspecific adhesion and growth of different cells (human umbilical vein endothelial cells, HUVEC, and mouse embryonic fibroblasts, 3T3). Furthermore, we demonstrate that this approach allows cell adhesion to be regulated across the entire range between completely prevented and highly promoted cell adhesion without introducing systemic cytotoxicity. These findings may contribute to the establishment of a new approach to adapt medical devices to cells and tissues

    Research in design automation for power electronics (DAPE) is a growing subject propelled by the demand for power electronics in the light of electrification. This paper explains and transfers concepts found in microelectronics EDA to DAPE. A broad literature analysis via automated rule-based classification of more than 6 000 publications shows the dominant automation approaches in connection with popular tasks to automate, the focused components and respective applications. Besides this content analysis, an analysis over time provides insight into past and current trends. The paper concludes with a comparison to EDA found in analog IC design to outline possible future research directions in DAPE

    Jüngste Fortschritte in der Künstlichen Intelligenz (KI) und der Erweiterten Realität (englisch „extended reality“ [XR]) bieten Potenziale, die Diagnostik und Behandlung in der Psychotherapie zu verbessern. KI-gesteuerte Technologien ermöglichen die präzise Analyse großer Datensätze zur Erkennung von Mustern und zur genauen Vorhersage und bietet z. B. im Kontext der Diagnose von Depressionen vielversprechende Einsatzmöglichkeiten. Extended-Reality-(XR)-Technologien wie Virtual Reality (VR) und Augmented Reality (AR) bieten immersive und interaktive Umgebungen, die sowohl in therapeutischen Interventionen als auch in der Diagnostik genutzt werden können. Dieser Überblick hebt das Potenzial von KI und XR in der klinischen Psychologie hervor und beschreibt ihre Vorteile, darunter eine erhöhte Diagnosegenauigkeit und Standardisierung, frühzeitige Erkennung und verbesserte Effizienz. Es werden auch die Einschränkungen und Herausforderungen ihres Einsatzes in der klinisch-psychologischen Praxis behandelt. Darüber hinaus werden ethische Überlegungen und regulatorische Rahmenbedingungen diskutiert, wobei der Fokus auf den neuesten EU-Vorschriften zur KI und deren Auswirkungen auf die klinische Praxis liegt.
