    Biosensoren für die Wasseranalyse 4.0 : Analytik trifft auf Digitalisierung

    Im Bereich Gewässerschutz sowie beim Schutz unserer Trinkwasserressourcen wurden bis heute große Fortschritte erzielt, die insbesondere auf Reinigungsmaßnahmen, städtebaulichen Maßnahmen und auf einer konsequenten analytischen Überwachung basieren. Neben der Einführung einer 4. Reinigungsstufe zur Elimination von Mikroverunreinigungen bei immer mehr Kläranlagen sind hier allgemein die Kanalanbindungen und Regenwasserrückhaltebecken sowie eine systematische analytische Überwachung mittels verschiedener on- und offline arbeitender Methoden der Wasseranalytik zu nennen. Dabei hat auch insbesondere die nationale und EU weite Gesetzgebung große Anstrengungen unternommen, die Qualität von Oberflächen- und Bewässerungswässern durch entsprechende Grenzwertvorgaben (EU Umweltqualitätsnormen 2008/105/EG; Nitratrichtlinie 91/676/EG) zu sichern. Dies hat bundesweit zu spürbaren Verbesserungen der Oberflächenwasserqualitäten, dem verbesserten Schutz der aquatischen Flora und Fauna und damit zu einem verbesserten Schutz der Rohwässer geführt. Hierdurch wird neben der Sicherung der Trinkwassergewinnung auch der gesellschaftlich bedeutsame Schutz einer intakten Umwelt im Einklang mit einer verträglichen Nutzung bis hin zu den Badegewässern durch Privatpersonen gewährleistet

    Managing the supply chain in Africa : the role of innovative technologies in national and international logistics

    One of the most significant supply chain-related challenges of doing business in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) affecting production, procurement, and distribution is logistics. In this chapter, critical features of international logistics and national logistics in SSA will be outlined along established criteria such as transport costs, availability, flexibility, transport duration, and quality. The core argument of this chapter is that innovative technologies have the potential to significantly improve international and national logistics to conduct business in SSA successfully. Blockchain technologies ease customs clearance procedures at ports, while geocoding, drone transport, and marketplace platforms have the potential to considerably improve logistics in Sub-Saharan African markets. Apart from the strengths of the new technologies, some weaknesses and pertinent challenges of logistics in SSA will be revealed

    Placement and orientation of an accelerometer sensor attached to the human incus in hearing implants

    In this study a method for determining the best placement and optimal orientation of the implantable piezoelectric accelerometer attached to the short process of the incus is developed. The accelerometer is intended to be used as a replacement for an external microphone to enable totally implantable cochlea implants or as part of a totally implantable hearing aid. The best location is determined to be near the incudomalleolar joint. The optimal orientation of the sensor at the determined location is obtained using two criteria - maximum voltage sum and minimum loudness level sum. The method described in the paper can be used to further optimize the design and the performance of the accelerometer

    Mechanical-dynamic properties of 3D-printed human middle-ear ligaments

    It was found that the material properties of the multi-material substrates can be specifically influenced by the systematic addition of three photopolymers (Tissue Matrix, Vero, Agilus). Mechanical-dynamic properties very close to those of the biological system can be achieved. Densities of 1100 to 1180 kg/m³, Young’s modulus of 0.1 to 25 MPa and Poisson’s ratio of around 0.3 have been achived. Target values for human ligaments reported in the literature vary, with densities ranging from 1100 to 1200 kg/m³, Young’s modulus from 0.05 to 21 MPa, damping ratio from 0.003 to 0.05, and Poisson’s ratio of around 0.3

    This paper aims to provide support in understanding the current difficulties in the eSports industry. It outlines the various players active in the eSports ecosystem and how they benefit from the success of eSports: Sponsors present themselves to an attractive target group, publishers promote more intensive use of their video game and broadcasting platforms receive professionally organized content for distribution to a growing audience. Only teams and organizers have so far concentrated solely on generating revenue through the practice or organization of eSports competitions. Driven by profitability weaknesses, however, they are trying to reduce their dependence on sponsorship and tap into new sources of income. Team organizations in particular tend to see opportunities for this outside of the original eSports business and are therefore increasingly developing into marketing and entertainment companies

    Die Planung und Umsetzung automatisierter Lager zeichnet sich durch hohe Investitionen und Risiken aus. Die zur Risikoreduzierung eingesetzte FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) ist sehr aufwendig in der Durchführung, da sie bezüglich Gestaltung und Durchführungsunterstützung Defizite aufweist: Überwiegend Fokus auf die Prozesssicht ohne Verknüpfung zur Konstruktions-FMEA der Automatisierungsobjekte, unzureichend strukturierte Nutzung ähnlicher sich wiederholender Prozesse und Technologien, keine automatisierte, parametrisierte Generierung von Aktivitäten, Fehlern und Ursachen sowie keine integrative Testszenarienableitung. Diese Defizite führen zu nicht erkannten Fehlern und erhöhen den Aufwand der FMEA-Durchführung und Testszenarienentwicklung. Es wird ein generisches FMEA-Modell vorgestellt, das u. a. auf umfangreiche Praxisdaten in Form von Wissensbasen zugreift, und die zuvor genannten Defizite auflöst

    The principle of recycling in circular economy : transforming waste

    The principle of recycling encompasses the transformation of waste materials into reusable products or materials, while excluding energy recovery and the use of waste as a fuel. In this microchapter, recycling definitions are introduced, as well as the targets for the reduction of waste generation and recycling rates in the Waste Framework Directive (WFD) of the European Union. Then, recycling measures from actors along the value chain illustrate that collaboration among stakeholders is crucial in creating robust and interconnected recycling systems that maximise resource recovery and minimise waste. Finally, the potential of new technologies along the entire recycling process is observed. A case study from AMP showcases systems that leverage machine learning to identify materials based on visual input, allowing for more effective separation of waste when combined with traditional sorting systems and robotics

    Realizing desired effects from digitized product affordances: a case study of key inhibiting factors

    Despite the potential of IoT-enriched digitized products, firms struggle to generate desired impact. We investigate the alignment of actualized digitized product potentials (i.e., affordances) with organizational goals, examining how the emergence of critical inhibiting factors affect the generation of desired effects. We conduct an embedded single case study of four actualized digitized product potentials within a professional equipment manufacturer and explore how the emergence of inhibiting factors prevents the generation of desired effects. Using Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA), six key inhibiting factors are identified. Our findings contribute to affordance theory and digital innovation research in three ways: a) we provide an extended affordance-actualization model that theorizes the process by which emerging key inhibiting factors are addressed via the implementation of (re-)actions to generate desired effects that are aligned with the organizational goals of actualized digitized product potentials, (b) we identify six key inhibiting factors that affect the generation of desired effects and that re-examine the role of data with respect to the “technology” element in affordance theory, and (c) we apply NCA to affordance theory for the first time and show how it can contribute to identifying critical factors during the realization of technology potentials
