Parenting Styles in the Film 20th Century Women (2016): An Issue of Generation Gap
Parenting styles can be influenced by a number of sociocultural factors, one of which is generation gap. This study analyses the kinds of parenting styles evident in the film 20th Century Women (2016). The study specifically focuses on the main character Dorothea’s ways of raising her son Jamie, who is forty years apart in age. The analysis points to three different parenting styles adopted by Dorothea: (1) authoritative, (2) authoritarian, and (3) permissive. The study confirms that generation gap has influenced the kinds of parenting styles adopted by the character. This study has thus shed light on an important sociocultural as well as contextual factor influencing parenting style
Analisis Video Pembelajaran Materi Teks Berita pada Kanal Youtube untuk Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia
This study aims to find out what are the learning videos of news text material that are already on YouTube based on the characteristics, specifications, and the advantages and disadvantages of the videos. This study uses a type of qualitative descriptive research. The data analysis technique uses the data analysis technique Miles and Huberman. This research gets results with videos that are generally 5-10 minutes long, in general the videos are in accordance with KD, indicators and learning objectives of news texts. Apart from that, video specifications are obtained with an aspect ratio of 16:9, resolution of 720 (HD), and a frame rate of 30fps. There are 40 learning videos on YouTube analyzed based on Miles and Huberman according to research criteria and a review of learning videos, 22 learning videos for news texts are found to be appropriate. Kekerabatan Bahasa Sasak dan Bahasa Mbojo
Comparative historical linguistic analysis is an approach in knowing the kinship relationship between one language and another. This study aims to determine the kinship between Sasak and Mbojo languages, by making a comparison between Sasak and Mbojo languages based on 200 Swadesh words. there were four informants used in this study to obtain the data, two speakers of Sasak and Mbojo languages respectively. The research instrument was the researcher herself assisted by a work analysis table listing 200 Swadesh vocabularies. This research is a qualitative-quantitative study using interview techniques in the process of obtaining the data. The results were then analyzed using the Lexicostatistical method, after which they were described. The results of this study indicate that Sasak language and Mbojo language are not only geographically close together, but the two languages are also related to one another with a kinship percentage of 19%. This is evidenced by the similarity of vocabulary in both languages. The Sasak and Mbojo languages are thought to have been a single language in 4256 – 3622 AD. Then the two languages, namely Sasak and Mbojo began to separate from their proton language between 2233 – 1599 AD (calculated in 2023). In Sasak and Mbojo languages, several phonemic correspondences are also found, namely /b/ ~ /w/, /t/ ~ /d/, /ʔ/ ~ /ø/, and /s/ ~ /ø/
Implementation of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in Writing Compte Rendu French Journalistique Text
Teachers or lecturers of French language in Indonesia are obliged to improve the quality of their professionalism to improve the quality of education because they are directly related to the process of transferring knowledge to students. They play vital and fundamental roles in guiding, directing and educating students in the learning process. To achieve those objectives, the results of this study are expected to add scientific insights, especially the implementation of the Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) approach to improve students' skills in writing French journalistic texts of the compte rendu journalistique (CRJ) type from the French Business or Français des Affaires (FdA) course. This study aims to: (1) describe the process and stages of the implementation of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in writing French journalistic text of Compte Rendu Journalistique type, (2) obtain data related to the results of students' abilities during the application of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in writing French CRJ, and; (3) test the level of effectiveness of the application of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in writing CRJ. The research method used is quantitative method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The research sample was 7th semester students of DELF B1 level who joined the FA course. The results of the study are as follows, namely: (1) the TBLT approach has been proven effective to improve students' skills in writing CRJ in French for DELF B1 level, and (2) the obstacles encountered by students include: (a) lack of vocabulaire related to the themes covered in the CRJ. This is because they are not accustomed to reading and understanding CRJ both online and in print; (b) lack of understanding related to journalistic terms so that it distorts them in packaging French texts; (c) lack of understanding of grammar that must be mastered at certain levels, especially for level B1 which of course requires a lot of grammatical studies because at this level the demands are higher.
The Influence of Teachers` Nonverbal Communication on Students' Interest in Learning English at Genta Diploma I
This study aims to identify the influence of teachers' nonverbal communication on students' interest in learning English at GENTA Diploma I Pare Kediri. A mixed method was used in this study, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data was collected through observations, questionnaires, and interviews. The results of simple linear regression analysis showed that teachers' nonverbal communication, which included gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, and intonation variations, significantly influenced students' learning interests, with a contribution of 40.5%. The interview findings revealed that students positively perceived the teacher's use of nonverbal communication, which helped them understand the material and made learning more enjoyable. Teachers are advised to further integrate various elements of nonverbal communication in the learning process to increase students' interest in learning. Training teachers on effective nonverbal communication is essential to create a more interactive and supportive learning environment. Further Research is needed to explore other factors that affect students' interest in learning and to test the effectiveness of nonverbal communication in the context of different subjects
Variasi Bentuk dan Nilai Emotif Disfemia dalam Penyajian Rubrik Opini pada Harian Kompas Online
This study aims to (1) identify forms of the use of dysphema in opinion articles found in Kompas Online daily and (2) map the emotive values arising from the use of dysphema in opinion articles found in Kompas Online daily. This type of research is descriptive-qualitative. The data in this study are opinion articles contained in the opinion rubric of the online Kompas daily. The data source in this study is the opinion rubric found on the page https://www.kompas.id/categories/opini/artikel-opini/. Collecting data in this study using the note-taking method. Data validation in this study uses theoretical triangulation. Data analysis in this study used an interactive analysis model or Miles and Huberman including: (1) data reduction; (2) data presentation; and (3) drawing conclusions or verification. The results obtained from this study concluded that the use of dysphema found 49 data, the four forms of dysphema namely 20 data of active verbs, 12 data of nouns, 9 data of passive verbs, and 8 data of adjectives. In addition, the taste or emotive values that arise from the use of dysphema are the values of feeling terrible, upsetting, and demeaning
Gerald's Emotional State in The Last Wish
Psychology is a general concept that every human being possesses. Using Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory, this study investigates the types of Psychological Aspects found in Geralt, the main character in Andrzej Sapkowski's novel "The Witcher: The Last Wish" (Id, Ego, and Superego). The researcher used the qualitative method and a case study design to achieve the research goal. The data is gathered through document analysis in the form of the main character's utterances. The researcher discovered 806 data from Geralt's utterances, with 149 data (18.48%) included the Psychological Aspects. According to the findings, 34 data were assigned to the Id (22.81%), 40 data were assigned to the Ego (26.84%), and 75 data were assigned to the Superego (50.33%). The most noticeable Psychological Aspect of Geralt's character is Superego. The superego is the component of personality acquired from one's parents, and society includes the values and morals of society learned from one's parents and others. According to the story, Geralt has been an orphan since he was a child and has survived to grow up on his own
A Comparison of Robert Entman's Framing of Netanyahu's Arrest News on Aljazeera Online News Media and CNN Arabic
Netanyahu is one of the Israeli Prime Ministers who is in the public spotlight because he is considered a suspect in the extermination of Gazans. Different news framing can affect one's view and understanding of the news. This research aims to find a comparison of Robert Entman's Framing model in the news which consists of four elements namely define the problem, diagnose causes, make moral judgments, and treatment recommendations. The object of this research consists of two primary data and secondary data. Primary data consists of two news articles from the AlJazeera website and two from the CNN Arabic website regarding Netanyahu's arrest. While secondary data is in the form of scientific articles and books relevant to this research. This research method is framing analysis using a qualitative approach. The data collection technique uses reading and note-taking techniques. While the data analysis technique uses the Miles and Hubermann model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results obtained are in the form of a description of Robert Entman's four framing concepts from the four news articles and a comparison of news framing on the AlJazeera and CNN Arabic websites
Cultural and Lexical Challenges: Analyzing Untranslatability in The French Subtitles of 'The Big 4' Film
The present study aims to analyze the untranslatability occurred in the subtitle of The Big 4 (2022) movie from Indonesian as the source language (SL) to French as the target language (TL). The words or phrases in the subtitles taken from a movie streaming platform, Netflix, were analyzed using a qualitative method to analyze the type of untranslatability; whether it is a lexical or cultural untranslatability, factors that influence, and the techniques used by the translator to overcome the issues. The findings showed the existence of untranslatability in 107 instances, 24 of which were at the lexical level and 83 in cultural aspects. The translator utilized nine different translation techniques to address the untranslatability, including borrowing, naturalization, adaptation, particularisation, modulation, generalization, calque, established equivalence, and transposition. However, regardless of the phenomenon of untranslatability, the act of translation must continue. It is the duty of translators to be skillful in finding the equivalent expressions in the TL
Implementasi Trigatra Bahasa dalam Upaya Optimasi Peran Duta Bahasa Jawa Barat
The attitude of speakers towards language is one of the influences on language preservation and shifting. Language Ambassador is one of the platforms that has an important role in implementing Trigatra Bahasa. This study aims to (1) describe whether the West Java Language Ambassador is the right means to be a means of implementing the Trigatra Bahasa; (2) describe the form of implementation of the Trigatra Bahasa in the West Java Language Ambassador; and (3) describe the impact of the implementation of the Trigatra Bahasa in the West Java Language Ambassador. The findings of this research were obtained through a questionnaire distributed to the West Java Language Ambassador Finalists. The questionnaire contains open and closed questions related to optimizing the role of Language Ambassadors in the effort to implement the Trigatra Bahasa. This research used a mixed method convergent design type. This method collects quantitative and qualitative data simultaneously to be able to describe the collected data. In general, the results of this research shows that West Java Language Ambassadors have a positive assessment category towards optimizing their role in efforts to implement the Trigatra Bahasa. However, the regional language aspect still has a fairly negative assessment category. It shows that there is a need for further deepening of understanding in the aspect of regional language. Furthermore, the results of this research are implied for the development of language ambassador selection strategies and language preservation by the government
