Role of the surface intermediates in the stability of basic mixed oxides as catalyst for ethanol condensation
The ethanol condensation catalyzed by mixed oxides is studied in this work, considering not only the activity but
also the stability of these materials. Concerning to the activity, different weight hourly space velocities (WHSV)
were tested, obtaining the highest conversion and 1-butanol selectivity with Mg-Al, mainly at 673 K and a WSHV
of 7.9 h−1. On the other hand, dehydration products, observed with Mg-Zr in relevant amounts, limit the results
obtained with this material. Deactivation studies were carried out by combining the measurement of reactant
and products in the gas phase and in the catalytic surface using spectroscopic techniques (DRIFT). Good stability
was observed with both materials at low temperatures (lower than 673 K), whereas at the highest one, Mg-Zr
suffers relevant deactivation justified by the permanent adsorption of aldehydes and oxygenated oligomers on
the active sites. It has been demonstrated that Mg-Al mixed oxides are promising catalyst for 1-butanol production
from ethanol not only in terms of activity, but also in terms of catalyst stability.- Gobierno de España (CTQ2014-52956-C3-1-R)

El Saladar de Bristol: Patrimonio vegetal, estado de conservación y propuesta de restauración (Corralejo, Fuerteventura, Islas Canarias)
Bristol Salt Marsh has natural and landscape values of high scientific, educational,
tourist interest and therefore economic. Especially relevant is its plant heritage: a plant
association that is unique in Fuerteventura,
Sarcocornietum perennis
, and species cataloged by its singularity in the Canaries. However, it suffers the typical degradation of intense urban
development pressure (Corralejo) and the general threats to wetlands and coastal tourist
areas. For this reason its plant communities are analyzed and mapped and measures for a
proper conservation and environmental management are proposed

Single-stage AC/DC dual inductor BCM current-fed push-pull for HB-LED lighting applications
A single-stage, AC/DC driver for High Brightness Light-Emitting Diodes (HB-LED) with galvanic isolation is presented in this paper. The driver is based on a Dual Inductor Current-fed Push-Pull (DICPP) converter with each inductor operating in Boundary Conduction Mode (BCM). The interleaving between the two inductors makes possible for the converter to reduce the high input current ripple of a BCM. Moreover, it is fully compliant with IEC 1000-3-2 Class C, and it is also able to achieve high Power Factor (PF). Moreover, the low component count, simplicity and overall outstanding characteristics make this topology suitable for medium power range HB-LED drivers in low cost applications. Finally, the proposed topology has been tested on a 90W prototype for the full range of the US single-phase line voltage, feeding several strings of HB-LED, with an output voltage of 48V at full load. The prototype achieves a maximum efficiency of 92% with 0.99 power factor, 8% THD at full load and guarantees good quality light. This work has been supported by the Spanish Government under Project MINECO-13-DPI2013-47176-C2-2-R and the Principality of Asturias under the grants “Severo Ochoa” BP14-140 and BP14-85 and by the Project FC-15-GRUPIN14-143 and by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant
H-plane SIW active horn antenna
This paper presents a H-plane active horn antenna
based on SIW technology. The amplifiers are fully integrated
within the SIW structure by replacing the top layer by a frequency
selective surface operating in stop-band. Results show 3 to 5 dB
gain improvement in the H-plane and E-plane measurements. This work was supported by the Gobierno del Principado de

“La confesión de Pelino Viera”, de William Henry Hudson: un cuento argentino escrito en inglés
This article tries to recover the tale «Pelino Viera’s Confession» and his author, William Henry Hudson, who is often forgotten and banished from Argentinian literature because of the language in which he chose to write: English. Hudson has the merit of being one of the Nineteenth century writers who started the Argentinian fantastic literature. Even so, he doesn’t usually receive such recognition. Mythology and legends of this tale, which are very interesting to understand the Argentinian idiosyncrasy, are analysed too.
Ig-like transcript 2 (ILT2) suppresses T cell function in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is associated with a profound dysregulation of the immune system. Loss of T cell function is frequently caused in cancer by sustained signaling of inhibitory receptors. Here, we analyzed the role of the novel inhibitory receptor Ig-like transcript 2 (ILT2) in the pathogenesis of CLL. We observed that ILT2 expression was markedly reduced on leukemic cells, whereas it was increased on CD8 and CD4 T cells from CLL patients, particularly in those patients harboring chromosome 11q deletion, which includes the ATM gene. A deep dysregulation of ILT2 ligands expression in leukemia cells was also observed. ILT2 impaired the activation and proliferation of CD4 and CD8 T cells in CLL patients, but it had no effect in leukemic cells. ILT2 downregulated the production of IL-2 by CD4 T cells of CLL patients and induced the expression of cytokines that promote the survival of leukemic cells, such as IFN-γ, by T cells. Importantly, ILT2 blockade restored the activation, proliferation and cytokine production of T cells. In conclusion, we describe a novel immune inhibitory pathway that is upregulated in CLL and delineate a new potential target to be explored in this disease
