Objective: To know the risk of eating disorders (ED) and their precursor risk behaviours in both children and teenagers schooled in Benicàsim (Castellón). Methods: A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study will be carried out in order to assess the risk of eating disorders through the Children eating attitude test (ChEAT-26), from which questions were selected for measure weight self-assessment and body dissatisfaction. Risk behaviours will be analyzed using selected questions from the World Health Organization survey (diet section). By using anthropometry techniques, weight and height will be measured and therefore, body mass index (BMI). The sample involved 143 students ranging from the last course of primary education (6º) to the last course of upper secondary education (2ndbachillerato) in both private and public schools of Benicàsim. Results: We obtained a prevalence of risk of 4.9%. The highest risk was detected in 6º primary, 3º and 4º ESO. Significant differences between sexes can be seen as for the risk of ED (p=0, 0471). However, it should be pointed out the fact that the risk in males has increased considerably There seems to be a tendency to self-evaluate overweight, an excessive concern about gaining weight(41% of students) and also a frequent desire for being skinny (50% of students),which leads to a risk behaviour: pills consumption(3,5%), diet (25%) and excessive exercise(60%). Conclusions: We found a remarkable number of students at risk for eating disorders. With increased risk in males we consider the need to address the entire school population in future studies. There was a tendency to assess the weight higher than the real one, which did not coincide with BMI and led the students to adopt inappropriate and risky behaviors. Primary care professionals should be a fundamental pillar for the modification of these behaviors capable of preventing these and other disorders.

The great social transformations taking place in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, and specifically in Granada (Spain) between the XIII-XIV until the XVIIth centuries, had a clear material manifestation in the pottery report that circulating in the privileged environments occupied by oligarchy Nazari and later for the Castilian one. In this paper we propose to realize an analysis of these changes from the comparative study of two archaeological contexts. On the one hand, Moclín Castle, Nazari fortress of border, after the Castilian conquest passes into a late-feudal castle. On the other hand, the Palace of the Abencerrajes at the Alhambra, that after the conquest became a house for private use. We face two fields Nazari foundation and a strong Castilian reoccupation. They offered us a clear sequence of transition between the Nazari pottery and the purely Castilian productions, breaks and continuities can be observed.

    Get PDF

Prediction of topsoil organic carbon using airborne and satellite hyperspectral imagery

The Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner (AHS) and the Hyperion satellite hyperspectral sensors were evaluated for their ability to predict topsoil organic carbon (C) in burned mountain areas of northwestern Spain slightly covered by heather vegetation. Predictive models that estimated total organic C (TOC) and oxidizable organic C (OC) content were calibrated using two datasets: a ground observation dataset with 39 topsoil samples collected in the field (for models built using AHS data), and a dataset with 200 TOC/OC observations predicted by AHS (for models built using Hyperion data). For both datasets, the prediction was performed by stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) using reflectances and spectral indices (SI) obtained from the images, and by the widely-used partial least squares regression (PLSR) method. SMLR provided a performance comparable to or even better than PLSR, while using a lower number of channels. SMLR models for the AHS were based on a maximum of eight indices, and showed a coefficient of determination in the leave-one-out cross-validation R2 = 0.60–0.62, while models for the Hyperion sensor showed R2 = 0.49–0.61, using a maximum of 20 indices. Although slightly worse models were obtained for the Hyperion sensor, which was attributed to its lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the prediction of TOC/OC was consistent across both sensors. The relevant wavelengths for TOC/OC predictions were the red region of the spectrum (600–700 nm), and the short wave infrared region between ~2000–2250 nm. The use of SMLR and spectral indices based on reference channels at ~1000 nm was suitable to quantify topsoil C, and provided an alternative to the more complex PLSR method.Spanish Ministry of Education (Ph.D. Grant “FPU” FPU14/01350) Government of Asturias (Project SV-PA-13-ECOEMP-40 and Ph.D. Grant “Severo Ochoa” BP14-104) University of Oviedo (“Predoctoral Grant”

    X-linked hypophosphatemia and growth

    Get PDF
PDF formato impresiónX-Linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is the most common form of hereditary rickets caused by loss-of function mutations in the PHEX gene. XLH is characterized by hypophosphatemia secondary to renal phosphate wasting, inappropriately low concentrations of 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D and high circulating levels of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23). Short stature and rachitic osseous lesions are characteristic phenotypic findings of XLH although the severity of these manifestations is highly variable among patients. The degree of growth impairment is not dependent on the magnitude of hypophosphatemia or the extent of legs´ bowing and height is not normalized by chronic administration of phosphate supplements and 1α hydroxyvitamin D derivatives. Treatment with growth hormone accelerates longitudinal growth rate but there is still controversy regarding the potential risk of increasing bone deformities and body disproportion. Treatments aimed at blocking FGF23 action are promising, but information is lacking on the consequences of counteracting FGF23 during the growing period. This review summarizes current knowledge on phosphorus metabolism in XLH, presents updated information on XLH and growth, including the effects of FGF23 on epiphyseal growth plate of the Hyp mouse, an animal model of the disease, and discusses growth hormone and novel FGF23 related therapies. This work was supported by the National Plan I + D + I 2008-2011, Instituto de Salud Carlos III (PI12/00987) and also by the National Plan I + D + I 2013-2016 Instituto de Salud Carlos III (PI14/00702 and PI15/02122), European Regional Development Funds 2013-2016 (ERDF, Grupín 14-020), the Foundation of the University of Oviedo (FUO), and by the Severo Ocha Grant 2013-2017 in the framework of “Programa Estatal de Promoción del Talento y su Empleabilidad en I+D+I, Subprograma Estatal de Formación”

eDNA for detection of five highly invasive molluscs. A case study in urban rivers from the Iberian Peninsula

    Get PDF
Biological invasions are an important threat to biodiversity especially in aquatic ecosystems, and their frequency is generally higher near urban areas. Potentially invasive non-indigenous molluscs were deliberately introduced into European waters for food (Corbicula fluminea) and biocontrol (Melanoides tuberculata), and unintentionally introduced by ballast water (Mytilopsis leucophaeata, Corbicula fluminea), stock contamination (Sinanodonta woodiana), accidental escapes from aquaculture (Sinanodonta woodiana), aquarium trade releases (Melanoides tuberculata) and even attached to aquatic birds (Corbicula fluminea). Three rivers from the Iberian Peninsula were monitored near the three most populated inland cities to evaluate the presence of these invasive molluscs through PCR amplification using taxon-specific primers from eDNA. New primers were designed within 16S rRNA and cytochrome oxidase subunit I genes, tested in silico from BLAST methodology and experimentally in vitro before application in the field. C. fluminea was found in Ebro River (near Zaragoza); M. leucophaeata in Guadalquivir River (near Sevilla). M. tuberculata and S. woodiana were found from enclosed areas (lake and reservoir respectively) upstream, respectively, Zaragoza and Madrid. The new tools are ready to be used in other regions where these species are also invasive

Limits, Stability and Disturbance Rejection Analysis of Voltage Control Loop Strategies for Grid Forming Converters in DC and AC Microgrids with High Penetration of Constant Power Loads

    Get PDF
This paper extensively analyzes the operation limits, system stability and disturbance rejection capability of the voltage control loops used in master-slave AC and DC Microgrids (MGs). Two different control schemes are studied analytically, simulated and experimentally tested, focusing on Constant Power Loads (CPL). Additionally, the use of the virtual capacitance (VC) as a tool for response enhancement is introduced. The study pursues the proper selection of the controllers gains and minimization of capacitance values by considering the dynamic behavior.PCTI-FICYT FEDER Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (ENE2013-44245-R and ENE2016-77919-R
