Asymmetric biocatalytic synthesis of fluorinated pyridines through transesterification or transamination. Computational insights into the reactivity of transaminases.
The synthesis of a family of pyridines bearing a fluorinated substituent on the aromatic ring has been carried out through two independent and highly stereoselective chemoenzymatic strategies. Short chemical synthetic routes toward fluorinated racemic amines and prochiral ketones have been developed, which served as substrates to explore the suitability of lipases and transaminases in asymmetric biotransformations. The lipase-catalyzed kinetic resolution
via acylation of racemic amines proceeded smoothly giving conversions close to 50% and excellent
enantioselectivities. Alternatively, the biotransamination of the corresponding prochiral ketones was investigated giving access to both optically pure amine enantiomers using transaminases with complementary selectivity. High to quantitative conversion
values were achieved, which allowed the isolation of the amines in moderate to high yields (40–88%). A deeper understanding of the latter process was enabled by performing theoretical calculations on thermodynamic and mechanistic aspects. Calculations showed that the biotransamination reactions are highly favoured by the presence of fluorine atoms and the pyridine ring
Unusual flexibility of mesophase pitch-derived carbon materials: An approach to the synthesis of graphene
Structural flexibility in a petroleum pitch-derived carbon material has been indirectly evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), immersion calorimetry and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements. Exposure of the carbon material to an organic solvent (e.g., n-nonane) gives rise to a large internal rearrangement, associated with a drastic re-ordering of the graphitic microdomains. These structural changes are also associated with a high flexibility of the internal porous network, as observed by inelastic neutron scattering measurements. The internal rearrangement and the structural flexibility could be responsible for the excellent performance of this kind of activated carbons in a wide variety of adsorption processes. Last but not least, the structural characteristics of these carbon materials composed of graphitic microdomains has been used to synthesize graphene “egg-like” flakes following a simple procedure based on exfoliation with organic solvents.UK Science and Technology Facilities Council for the provision of beam time on the TOSCA spectrometer (Project RB1410624) and financial support from the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme through the “Research Infrastructures” action of the “Capacities” Programme (NMI3-II Grant number 283883). Turbulence structure around an asymmetric high-lift airfoil for different incidence angles
An exhaustive investigation of the structure of the turbulence around an asymmetric FX 63-137 wind turbine airfoil is carried out in this paper. Reliable hot-wire velocity measurements, made at the Xixon Aeroacoustic Wind Tunnel, are presented with the aim of analyzing the turbulent flow features. The probe was placed at two different positions along the streamwise direction, one over the airfoil and the other at the wake, both on the suction and pressure side. These measurements were performed in order to capture the evolution of the flow and its behavior at the wake. The experimental data were collected at a Reynolds number of 350000 for several incidence angles to explore their influence in the turbulence characteristics. The data processing from the dual hot-wire, capable of measuring two velocity components, allowed to achieve half set of the Reynolds stresses, the turbulence intensity and the degree of anisotropy. The boundary layer and wake size were estimated from the Reynolds stress components. In addition, the production term of the turbulence kinetic energy budget is calculated to visualize the unsteadiness energy inside the boundary layer. As a result of these analyses, it was observed that the transversal fluctuations were higher than the longitudinal ones. Besides, an alternative description of the turbulence structure is obtained when a frequency analysis of the motion is provided, disclosing a clear change in the spectra tendencies in the wake and boundary layer regions. This analysis, combined with the degree of anisotropy analysis, was helpful to define a transition zone between the clearly distinguishable instability zone and the free-stream zone. Finally, the integral length scale of turbulence was estimated from the area under the autocorrelation function of the velocity fluctuations. The combination of the results of this work have provided a wide description of the turbulent behavior of the flow around the airfoil and present a clearer physical picture of the phenomena.
Adolescence represents a critical period in the beginning and experimentation of risk behaviors such as alcohol consumption. According to the report of the Statewide Survey on Drug Use in secondary education (ESTUDES) conducted in 2015, reveal a significant increase in alcohol consumption, 78.9% of students between the ages of 14 and 18 have ever tried Life alcohol, 76.8% have consumed in the last year and 68.2% have consumed alcohol in the last month. In recent years, in Spain there has been a change in patterns of consumption characterized by the consumption of alcoholic drinks only at the weekend, in high amounts and abusive, in many cases with the clear objective of achieving in a short time the drunkenness .
Our health system offers barriers that make it difficult for the adolescent to have access to it. Therefore, and since the implementation of a consultation in school led by nurses is present in several Autonomous Communities, it is proposed to expand the role of nurse competence in addressing problems related to alcohol consumption, to respond to a "hidden problem " as only 10% of adolescents with addiction problems receive professional help. The results of different international studies indicate that brief interventions conducted by nurses are an effective strategy to reduce alcohol consumption; it is proposed to include short intervention in the protocols of action in the Spanish school context led by nurses
