Strain-tunable Single Photon Sources in WSe2 Monolayers

    Get PDF
The appearance of single photon sources in atomically thin semiconductors holds great promises for the development of a flexible and ultra-compact quantum technology, in which elastic strain engineering can be used to tailor their emission properties. Here, we show a compact and hybrid 2D-semiconductorpiezoelectric device that allows for controlling the energy of single photons emitted by quantum emitters localized in wrinkled WSe2 monolayers. We demonstrate that strain fields exerted by the piezoelectric device can be used to tune the energy of localized excitons in WSe2 up to 18 meV in a reversible manner, while leaving the single photon purity unaffected over a wide range. Interestingly, we find that the magnitude and in particular the sign of the energy shift as a function of stress is emitter dependent. With the help of finite element simulations we suggest a simple model that explains our experimental observations and, furthermore, discloses that the type of strain (tensile or compressive) experienced by the quantum emitters strongly depends on their localization across the wrinkles. Our findings are of strong relevance for the practical implementation of single photon devices based on two-dimensional materials as well as for understanding the effects of strain on their emission properties

Patients with inhaled therapy have a high percentage of incorrect technique despite the importance of performing it properly. Objective: To determine which are the most frequent errors in the self administration of inhaled therapy in our patients. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with a randomized sample of 60 patients. A face-to-face interview was carried out for the collection of data and errors in the technique by means of a check-list. Results: 55% of the patients performed an incorrect technique. The most frequent errors were not to expel air pre-inspiration and not to perform apnea of more than 5 seconds. Adherence to inhaler therapy measured by the TAI was found to be good in 50% of patients and the noncompliance rate was 58.3%. Conclusions: It is necessary to insist on the importance of very frequent errors. The need for re-education has been verified due to the poor performance of the technique by the patients. The most common type of noncompliance was the erratic, followed by the unconscious and the deliberate. In general, adherence to inhaler therapy is poor.

The recommendations “not to do” include unnecessary interventions with the current evidences, not much sure, with high cost - efficiency or that spend a lot of time of the sanitary professional that can dedicate to another activity. A decade ago, the National Alliance of The United States started the project "Choosing Wisely". Scientific companies of Familiar and Community Medicine, of Internal Medicine and of Pediatrics elaborated a list with five recommendations which aim was to promote a major efficiency of the health resources related to requests of diagnostic tests and treatments. Since then, many scientific associations have joined the project. In addition, the Institute NICE elaborates and updates the list " Do not do". The Ministry of Health, Social Politics and Equality develops this national project, with the presence of 49 scientific companies.Las recomendaciones no hacer incluyen intervenciones innecesarias con las evidencias actuales, poco seguras, con elevado coste-efectividad y que ocupan un tiempo al profesional sanitario que puede dedicar a otra actividad. Selective photocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural in aqueous suspension of polymeric carbon nitride and its adduct with H2O2 in a solar pilot plant

This work reports a study on the reactivity of polymeric carbon nitride (PCN) and PCN-H2O2 adduct samples for sunlight photocatalytic selective oxidation reactions. The characterization of these materials was reported in a previous paper where the reactivity towards the partial oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) was studied by using two different laboratory scale photoreactors; one irradiated by UV lamps and the other one by natural sunlight. In the present study it has been confirmed the effectiveness of these C3N4 based materials for the selective partial oxidation of HMF to FDC (2,5-furandicarboxaldehyde) in aqueous medium in a pilot plant photoreactor irradiated by natural sunlight. The reactivity results and, in particular, the selectivity to FDC formation have been very encouraging, mostly by considering that the reaction was carried out in water. Moreover, they are comparable with those obtained in the laboratory scale photoreactors irradiated by both UV lamps and natural sunlight. Interestingly, the pristine PCN sample has shown a higher HMF conversion with respect to that of the PCN-H2O2 adduct, but the last one is more selective to the FDC formation. A kinetic study indicates that the pseudo-first-order rate constant of HMF oxidation is higher in the case of pristine photocatalyst and that the equilibrium adsorption constants of HMF is higher in the case of PCN-H2O2 adduct catalyst. Finally, the partial oxidation of two aromatic alcohols, i.e. benzyl alcohol (BA) and 4-methoxy benzyl alcohol (4-MBA) to benzaldehyde (BAL) and 4-methoxy benzaldehyde (4-MBAL), respectively, has also been studied

Effect of Au nanoparticles on the activity of TiO2 for ethanol upgrading reactions

This article analyses the role of gold nanoparticles supported on TiO2 for the gas-phase ethanol condensation. Previously, the original P25 surface was modified for increasing the Au-Ti interaction, in order to minimize the thermal deactivation. Catalysts were tested both in absence and presence of hydrogen (523–673 K, WHSV =7.9 h−1; yEtOH =0.32; yH2 =0-0.1; 0.1 MPa). Parent TiO2 is mainly selective for dehydration reactions yielding diethyl ether (favoured at low temperatures) and ethylene (favoured at higher temperatures). The presence of Au in the catalyst promotes dehydrogenation pathways, yielding acetaldehyde, as well as condensation products (mainly butanol, with selectivities close to 10%). According to DRIFT spectroscopy results, the strong ethanol adsorption on the TiO2 surface justifies the low yields and the high relevance of side-reactions produced by inter- or intra- molecular dehydration routes (diethyl ether, and ethylene formation). The gold addition minimizes this adsorption and enhances the main route by a double role: an improvement in the dehydrogenation rate (yielding more acetaldehyde) and an enhancement in the hydrogenation steps.- Gobierno de España (CTQ14-52956-C3-1-R) - Gobierno del Principado de Asturias (PA-14-PF-BP14-105) - Gobierno de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos (CONACYT 291212
