The Potential of International Izmir Art Festival in Event Tourism
No full textEvent tourism examined as a concept of special interest tourism has contributed significantly to tourism, travel, leisure and recreation and lodging industries recently by becoming a strong tourism demand generating factor. In addition this, event tourism is an important way to catch social, economic, environmental goals and provide benefits for the societies and destinations. Events are one of the important attractions of destination and provide tourists with updated information about culture, society and history. Festivals and public celebrations found in all societies are increasingly seen as unique tourist attractions and destination image makers with a variety of other special events. They play a big role in making contribution to the cultural exchange among the people of the world and provide important contributions to the development of the cities and making them a brand city. The aim of this study is to put the importance on the event tourism with so many different festivals, religious/cultural organizations, sport activities and scientific organizations to make Izmir take its path in international path. In this context, so many people will visit Izmir. This study also aims to make Izmir which is accepted as the cradle of civilizations with a history of 8500 year a worldwide known city of art and culture with Izmir International Art Festival after ages. As a result of the study, it is understood that Izmir International Art Festival organized for the last 26 years has a significant role in recognition of Izmir in international area. A Critical Approach to Geothermal Energy in Turkey Terms of Sustainability and Health Tourism

The rapid development of sustainable tourism is constantly changing and shaping the concept of sustainability. Every country has its own way for this reshaping and some countries have chosen sustainable renewable and environmentally-friendly energy resources in this movement.Due to its geographical position Turkey has advantage in using a wide range of renewable energy resources. This study is related to one of this green energy – geothermal energy (GE). Turkey has a great potential regarding geothermal energy. Turkey is Europe’s number one and the world’s number seven country concerning its geothermal resources. The most significant geothermal systems are located in the western, central and eastern parts of Turkey. The first search for geothermal energy was launched in Turkey in the Aegean region. Geothermal energy is an important sustainable source and this energy is also important for health tourism. Health tourism is developing in the world and Turkey wants to be a part of this movement. Izmir has an important role in health tourism and has a significant advantage in terms of thermal energy. Moreover, health tourism is in Izmir’s program for the EXPO 2020. The aim of study is to provide the information on the sources of thermal energy in the region and to the evaluate the investments in this regard. Firstly the importance of geothermal energy potential is discussed and geothermal energy in Izmir is analyzed. After information of thermal energy sources in the region is collected and investments are examined, the connection of geothermal power with health tourism is evaluated

Exploring the Effects of EFQM Excellence Model on the Process of Intrapreneurship: A Research from Turkey
Get PDFThe innovation process requires intrapreneurial behaviors of employees concerning stages of idea conception, development, implementation and integration. All organizations should apply and follow a suitable excellence model which leads them toward innovative behaviors. One of the methods for creating an innovative culture in the organizations is the EFQM Excellence Model. The purpose of this study is to explore how the applications of EFQM Excellence Model influence on the intrapreneurship behaviors of the employees. A comperative analysis (one-way analysis of variance) was conducted with 275 teachers from three schools one of which achieved Recognized for Excellence 5-Star to find the answer of the research question. The results showed that the innovativeness, proactiveness, risk taking, autonomy and networking dimensions of the intrapreneurship behaviors are higher in the school using EFQM Excellence Model. Thus this paper indicates that the eight basic rules of excellence applications of EFQM Excellence Model make a positive impact on the intrapreneurship behaviors of the employees

In this context, Quality of Working Life is an issue that allows assessing the effects of information technology usage on business practices comprehensively. Determining the effects of information technology on Quality of Working Life which has dimensions as career, salary, job satisfaction, safe working conditions, work-life balance and education enables to discuss in accordance with multiple findings. Purpose: In this study, determining the effects of information technology usage on quality of working life is aimed. The growth of businesses and growing amount of work in hospitality industry has required information technology use. In addition, hospitality businesses seek to achieve a high quality of working life for influencing and retaining the qualified employees. The high rate of labor turnover in hospitality industry shows more clearly the importance of this purpose. Materials/Methods: The survey technique has used within the scope of this study. While the technology scale has been formed by drawing inspiration from different studies (Gürler and Güler, 2011; Lam et al., 2007; Ham et al., 2005); the quality of working life scale has been adopted from Walton’s study (1973). A Qualitative Study on the Pride Notion of Tourism and Hospitality Students in Turkey
Get PDFTourism, as a sociological, psychological, economic and environmental phenomenon, has various impacts on the perceptions of both visitors and residents of a destination due to the interaction between hosts and guests. Besides, tourism industry poses a challenge of attracting and retaining quality employees for an increasing number of tourism and hospitality businesses on both international and national scales. In this research, a qualitative approach is used to analyse the sense of pride and Young Turks’ willingness to work in the tourism industry as well as their job preferences. Results revealed that among 50 interviewed respondents, 48 percent have the tendency to give up working in the tourism and hospitality industry due to late working hours, tough working conditions, low wages, lack of holidays, lack of caring employees and lack of professionalism. Pride really matters for the 37 percent of respondents who mentioned that the feeling of pride had an influence on their decision of staying in the hospitality industry

Factors Affecting The Companies’ Preferences On Integrated Reporting
Get PDFThe aim of this study is to reveal the factors affecting the companies’ preferences towards publishing integrated reports. By reviewing the literature, the factors are classified under two groups, namely; country-specific factors and firm-specific factors. The general results obtained from studies on integrated reporting shows that in countries where societal values prevail over individual values, where there is a high demand for information and where strong enforcement mechanisms exist, it is expected that companies are more likely to publish integrated reports. From a micro-level (firm specific) perspective, large and profitable companies with strong governance structure, whose Boards include diverse perspectives are accepted to be closer to integrated reporting
