No full textThis article explores the concept of human superiority towards nature through an ecocritical perspective in Christopher Nolan's science fiction film, Interstellar (2014). Drawing on the theoretical framework of ecocriticism, which examines the relationship between literature, film, and the environment, this analysis delves into the film's portrayal of humanity's impact on the natural world and the consequences of such actions. Through the characters in this film, the narrative explores the inherent human desire to explore and transcend boundaries, symbolizing the ambition to conquer nature. In order to reach this conclusion, this research focuses on how human and nature relationship and how human superiority are formed out of the norms created by the anthropocentric thinking. Interstellar challenges anthropocentric perspectives and prompts viewers to reconsider their relationship with the environment. It raises important questions about the ethical responsibilities of humans towards the planet and encourages a shift towards a more sustainable and interconnected approach to nature. The research concludes that there are certain superiority acts and decisions taken by human characters over the existence of nature itself. The result of the research is the anthropocentric view taken by the characters resulting the series of acts portraying human superiority over nature. Social conflict in film ip man 4: the finale
No full textThis research discusses the problem of social conflict that occurs in the film Ip Man 4: The Finale using Ian Watt's sociology of literature theory. This research uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive type of research. In this study, the researcher conducted several main instruments, such as watching the film several times, analysing the film script, and identifying and classifying the data obtained from film Ip Man 4: The Finale. To support the analysis process, the researcher used the theory of literary sociology and Soerjono Soekanto's opinion on the division of social conflict in the community environment. In the results of this study, researchers divided the problem into two factors, namely social conflict and the causes of social conflict. Social conflict in the film Ip Man 4: The Finale is divided into several types, namely social conflict between individuals, social conflict between individuals and groups, and social conflict between groups. The social conflict contained in the film Ip Man 4: The Finale produces five forms of conflict in the form of disputes, dishonesty, slander, humiliation, revenge, and suspense. While the factors that cause social conflict produce four causes, namely family dizorganisation, violation towards norms of society, environmental problems, and bureaucracy. From the results of this study, the researcher concluded that social conflicts that occur between two individuals are generally caused by problems in the family dizorganization, social environment problems, and violations of the norms of society. Furthermore, social conflicts that occur between individuals and groups are caused by bureaucratic problems and social-environmental problems. No full textPenelitian ini mengkaji pengalaman pelancong dalam mengunjungi kompleks keraton di vorstenlanden di jawa tahun 1864- 1915. Studi ini berupaya mengetahui budaya jawa pada tingkat penguasa di vorstenlanden melalui pengalaman beberapa pelancong barat dalam catatan perjalanan mereka. Adapun empat catatan perjalanan atau travelogue yang menjadi sumber penelitian ini ialah catatan perjalanan life in java (1864) (vol.2) milik william barrington d'almeida, java, the garden of the east (1897) milik eliza ruhamah scidmore, a journey to java (1914) oleh michael mcmillan, dan java and her neighbours (1914) oleh arthur stuart walcott. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sejarah dengan pendekatan budaya dan teori experience. Pendekatan ini digunakan untuk membaca identitas budaya pada cerita pengalaman pelancong barat saat berada di lingkungan kerajaan. Sementara itu, teori experience menurut teresa de lauretis, digunakan untuk mengungkapkan makna yang terkandung dari cerita pengalaman para pelancong dalam catatan perjalanan mereka. Rencana perjalanan yang disarankan oleh vtv sebagian besar berupa pemandangan alam yang dijadikan sebagai destinasi wisata unggulan di jawa. Para pelancong sejatinya tidak hanya menikmati keindahan alam jawa, namun juga menikmati kekayaan budaya jawa. Oleh sebagian pelancong barat, kompleks keraton di vorstenlanden menjadi bagian dari rencana perjalanan mereka di pulau jawa. Di sana, mereka menyaksikan budaya jawa-nya pulau jawa terutama ditingkat penguasa seperti kasultanan serta situs peninggalannya yang tidak ada di dunia barat sehingga beberapa hal unik yang mereka saksikan menjadi bagian dari cerita pengalaman mereka dalam melihat dunia timur
Hybridity and mimicry in three thousand years of longing film
No full textIn post-colonial, there was a concept of opposing identities between the colonized and the colonizer. However, this research focuses on Djinn as an African immigrant character who is part of the colonized people and adopts a Westerner's identity as part of the colonizer people. This is an identity issue for Djinn because, as a colonized, he adopts the colonizer identity. The colonized people adopted the colonizer identity called hybridity and mimicry. This research discusses hybridity and mimicry in a film directed by George Miller entitled Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022). This research uses a descriptive qualitative method and the theory of hybridity, mimicry, and ambivalence by Homi Bhabha. This research aims to examine hybridity, mimicry, and the impact on African immigrant character. The results show hybridity in Djinn as an African immigrant character through language, physical appearance, and education. Hybridity in Djinn influenced him to imitate the colonizer and appeared in his physical appearance and perspective. Hybridity and mimicry make Djinn have an identity crisis. He prefers to use the colonizer's language, physical appearance, and place. In conclusion, the problem of identity in Djinn as an African immigrant is a form of hybridity and mimicry process which impacts identity crisis.viii, 55 hlm., ilus
