Building Clean Beach Tourism: Analyzing Waste Management for Sustainable Coastal Tourism in East Java, Indonesia
All relevant stakeholders are integral to the execution of waste management and coastal conservation initiatives. A comprehensive qualitative research study was conducted to analyze waste composition on the South Coast of East Java, evaluate its ecological and health impacts, explore the potential contributions of community knowledge, attitudes, and skills in coastal waste management, and develop effective and sustainable waste management strategies through a SWOT analysis. The research included examining waste at Balekambang Beach as a case, involving on-site observations and calculations to determine the relative and absolute densities of waste along 750 coastline segments. The study area is divided into three stations. The findings revealed that organic waste, such as wood, leaves, and twigs, is the dominant waste component at beach, while plastic emerged as the predominant inorganic component. The ecological impact of waste at Tourism Beach fell into the moderate pollution category. Most of the respondents acknowledged the environmental and health implications of beach waste and demonstrated commendable knowledge, attitudes, and skills in waste management. Coastal waste management can be successful if weaknesses and threats are addressed proactively
The Phosphorus Efficiency and Uptake in Pakcoy
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different quality organic materials combined with various doses on the uptake, efficiency of phosphorus nutrients, growth parameters, and yield of pakcoy (Brassica rapa) plants under pot conditions in a greenhouse. The research consists of two stages. The first stage is making compost from plant residue,s followed by analysis to determine the quality of the compost. The second stage is testing the compost on the growth and yield of bok choy. This research uses a factorial randomized block design, 2 factors; factor 1 plant residues compost (R) 2 levels; namely; R1 = Soybean stove and R2 = Rice straw, Factor 2 dose 5 levels; D0 = dose 0 tons/ha, D1 = dose 5 tons/ha, D2 = dose 10 tons/ha, D3 = dose 15 tons/ha, and D4 = dose 20 tons/ha. The results showed that the soybean residue compost treatment at a dose of 15 tons/ha (R1D3) showed P uptake of 2690 mg/kg and the highest economic fresh weight yield, namely 179.93 g/plant, compared to other treatments. The results of the P uptake efficiency analysis showed that the provision of soybean residue compost was 47.03% more efficient than rice straw compost. These findings highlight the potential of varying doses of organic matter to enhance phosphorus uptake and efficiency, increasing pakcoy yields while reducing chemical inputs
Assessment of Environmental Sustainability in Ecotourism at Tanaka Waterfall, Mount Kawi, Malang, Indonesia
This study examines the ecotourism features in the Tanaka Waterfall area of Mount Kawi. It focuses on attractions, access, facilities, and local organizations to help improve tourism for the community and protect the environment. The researchers used interviews, surveys from 30 people (including foreign and local tourists), reading existing materials, and direct observation. The findings reveal that Tanaka Waterfall offers unique natural scenery, special Japanese decorations, and beautiful mountain views. Most people found access to the waterfall good, but some had issues with the roads and signs. More than 70% of respondents said public facilities, such as toilets and rest areas, were adequate. The local community, especially the Arjomulyo hamlet, manages the area using a community tourism approach. People in the community are active participants, but there is a need for better organization and online promotion. Overall, the Tanaka Waterfall area has much potential for sustainable ecotourism. However, it needs improved infrastructure, better access to information, and more organized management. This study's results help guide eco-friendly and inclusive tourism development plans
A Comparative Study on the Renewal of Traditional Food Markets from the Perspective of Cultural Adaptation: A Case Study of the Old Town of Chengdu
The quality of food market renovation is crucial to public well-being. From the perspective of cultural adaptation, this study examines four old and new markets in Chengdu’s Old Town, using questionnaire surveys and semi-structured interviews to compare and analyse spatial satisfaction and influencing factors of cultural adaptation. Based on the findings, the study ultimately proposes renewal strategies to achieve a balance between functional enhancement and cultural continuity
Environment Assessment of Low-Altitude Port Selection Based on Urban Scene Characteristics
With the development of low-altitude economy in China, this article analyzed the importance of environment assessment. Then, the process and main contents were summarized to detail the assessment work. The three aspects were the bird risk assessment, wind field assessment and the noise assessment. Through both qualitative and quantitative analysis, the port selection environment assessment was proposed. Finally, used this theory, the Shaoxing project showed the practicality to improve the reliability development of low-altitude port selection
Evaluation of Soil Quality and Spatial Characteristics of Urban Garden Green Spaces in Jiaozhou City
Taking the urban garden green spaces(Uggs) in Jiaozhou City as the research object, a soil quality evaluation index system for Uggs was established. The improved Nemerow index method was used to evaluate the soil quality of the total Uggs(TG) and its 4 types(street green space, SG; road green space, RG; comprehensive park, CP; linear park, LP), including entire profile (0-60cm) and layered (0-20, 20-40, 40-60cm). GIS was used to analyze the spatial distribution of soil quality at different layers. The results show that the overall soil quality of Uggs in Jiaozhou City is at a medium to low level. From the perspective of the entire profile, the comprehensive index of soil quality (Pijk) of the total and 4 types of Uggs are 1.10 (TG), 1.06 (CP), 1.04 (SG), 1.05 (LP), and 1.16 (RG), all of which are between 1.0-1.5 and belong to grade III. From a layered perspective, the Pijk of the total and 4 types of Uggs of surface layer are 1.20 (TG), 1.20 (CP), 1.17 (SG), 1.12 (LP), and 1.25 (RG), all of which are at grade III. The Pijk of middle layer are 0.93 (TG), 0.86 (CP), 0.91 (SG), 0.92 (LP), and 0.96 (RG), and the Pijk of bottom layer are 0.89 (TG), 0.84 (CP), 0.88 (SG), 0.83 (LP), and 0.97 (RG); All of which are below 1.00, and at grade IV. In terms of classification, the soil quality of all 3 layers of RG is the highest, but there is no specific pattern in the Pijk of CP, SR, and LP. The soil quality gradually deteriorates from the surface layer downwards. From the perspective of spatial distribution, the soil quality generally follows a pattern of high in the north and west, and low in the south and east, reflecting the outcomes of both natural and anthropogenic influences. The research results can provide scientific basis for soil and Uggs management in Jiaozhou City
Research Opportunities in CSR Communication: A Bibliometric Insight into Corporate Legitimacy as an Emerging Sub-Cluster
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) communication has become a crucial component of corporate strategy, particularly in the context of enhancing corporate legitimacy. This bibliometric study, based on a systematic analysis of 143 articles from the Scopus database published between 2018 and 2024, explores emerging research trends in this field. Using VOSviewer’s visual mapping tools—Network, Density, and Overlay—we successfully mapped the intellectual structure and trends of the literature. Our findings challenge the notion of a saturated field, revealing a highly dynamic landscape with a significant shift from general topics to specific, emerging sub-clusters. Specifically, corporate legitimacy has emerged as a key underexplored sub-cluster, indicating substantial opportunities for new contributions. This study identifies significant research gaps and outlines key opportunities, particularly focusing on future research directions concerning the relationship between CSR communication and corporate legitimacy
Communicative Power and Reputation: The Moderating Role of University Managerial Intelligence in Private Universities of East Java
The significant decline in the number of new student enrollments at several private universities in Indonesia, as reported by PDDIKTI and LLDIKTI in 2025, poses a major challenge to the sustainability of institutional reputation and existence. Amid increasingly intense competition especially with the growing number of State Universities with Legal Entity Status (PTNBH) organizational reputation has become a strategic asset that must be carefully managed. This study aims to examine the influence of organizational communication competence on the reputation of private universities, while also investigating the moderating role of University Managerial Intelligence (UMI) in strengthening this relationship. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method to 178 institutions, involving managerial staff and university leaders from selected private universities in East Java. Data analysis was conducted using Stuctural Equation Models (PLS-SEM) to assess whether UMI enhances the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. The results indicate that organizational communication competence has a significant effect on institutional reputation. Moreover, UMI not only directly influences reputation but also positively moderates the relationship between communication competence and reputation. This means that the higher the managerial intelligence of university leaders, the stronger the influence of organizational communication on public perceptions of the institution. These findings offer important implications for strategic management within private higher education institutions, particularly in improving leadership capacity and organizational communication effectiveness. The study also underscores the importance of developing managerial competencies rooted in strategic intelligence to enhance competitiveness and ensure the sustainability of private university reputations in the evolving landscape of higher education in Indonesia
Founder-Driven Hybrid Enterprise and Contextual Social Innovation: The Case of Hangfive Coffee and Surf in Batukaras, Indonesia
This study explores how social innovation and hybrid entrepreneurship are practiced within a community-based micro-enterprise in a coastal tourism ecosystem. Using the case of Hangfive Coffee and Surf in Batukaras, Indonesia, the research examines how local cultural values, founder agency, and international partnerships interact to shape a sustainable business model. Adopting a qualitative case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The study employs Alter’s Social Enterprise Typology and the Triple Layered Business Model Canvas (TLBMC) by Joyce and Paquin to analyze how the enterprise integrates economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Findings indicate that Hangfive operates as a founder-driven hybrid, a market-oriented enterprise that generates social value through informal, relationship-based practices rooted in community culture. Its sustainability logic relies on relational capital, local trust, and shared identity rather than formal social enterprise mechanisms. The study contributes to social entrepreneurship literature by proposing the notion of contextual relational sustainability, emphasizing that in resource-limited rural settings, social innovation emerges from interpersonal networks and cultural reciprocity. Practical implications highlight the need for capacity-building initiatives that can institutionalize such relational models while preserving their local authenticity
High capability of AlGaN/GaN HEMT transistors through innovative vertical field plates
In this paper, a novel Gate and Drain side Field plate AlGaN/GaN HEMT (GDFP-HEMT) is proposed, featuring multiple vertical field plates on the gate side and both vertical and horizontal field plates on the drain side. This new configuration of the HEMTs improves the electric field distribution and device performance in comparison to the conventional AlGaN/GaN HEMT (C-HEMT). The device structure includes a carbon-doped GaN buffer layer to enhance electrical isolation and reduce leakage currents, along with Al2O3 as a dielectric under the gate. Simulations using TCAD-Silvaco and VICTORY DEVICE software were performed to optimize field plate design and analyze its impact on key device parameters such as electron concentration, current density, and breakdown voltage. Results show that the proposed GDFP-HEMT achieves improved current handling, reduced electric field peaks, and a significant increase in breakdown voltage, reaching up to 900 V. The analysis confirms that careful design of the field plates, including their placement and configuration, plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs
