PROFESIONALITAS GURU DAN PEMBELAJARAN KONTEKSTUAL
Abstract. This concise paper elaborates a certainconsideration relacted toa a current situation of education in Indonesia. Thequality of education in our country is relatively low compared to that of othercountries like Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia. Teachers and lectures areencouraged to be professional when doing learning and teaching process. This isbecause; teachers and lecturers are of extremely important in that process.Even, if a very high technology is applied, the learning and teaching processwill never be meaningful without them. Professional teachers/lecturers musthave three things simultaneously: expertise, commitment, and skill. Besides,contextual teaching and learning (CTL) must be carried out to make students seemeaning in the academic material they are studying by connecting the subjectswith their daily lives. By doing so, it is expected that the learning andteaching process could be better. Abstract. Puppet show becomes alast option for teenagers when they get some alternative shows. This is a verypathetic phenomenon as the generation has no longer been interested to theirown asset. Thus, people who love and care about puupet should find a way tomake puppet show live because in the story we can get great life values andmoral teaching. A nation is strong when it has good and firm characters. Thisarticle talks about some educative values which have relations to values ofpoliteness and firm and strong will of the main characters of the puppet showentitled “Rabine Bambang Wijanarko”. ANALYZING METAPHORS IN KAHLIL GIBRAN’S “NYMPHS OF THE VALLEY”
Abstract. Artikel ini tentang analisis metaphormenggunakan teori perbandingan (comparison theory) yang merubah metaphormenjadi bentuk yang mirip dengan simile-kompleks. Disamping itu ada pulabeberapa konsep metaphor yang berguna bagi pembaca kesusasteraa khususnyapembelajaruntuk lebih memahami apa metaphor itu dan bagaimana konsepnya.Persepsi konseptersebut menjadi system persepsi di otak manusia sejalan dengankonsep budaya dalam mengintepretasikan metaphor. Metode analisis datamenggunakan metode descriptive kualitatif. Data ekspresi metaphor yangdianalisa berasal dari karya Kahlil Gibran berjudul “Nymphs of the Valley. Datatersebut ditulis, didokumentasikan, dianalisa, dan diintepretasikan agardidapat makna yang sesuai. Pada akhirnya Levinson (1983) menyatakan bahwateori-teori tersebut menggambarkan bagaimana cara proses semanticmengintepretasikan metaphor tidak selalu berbeda dari proses biasanya dariproses pemahaman bahasa. MENINGKATKAN KUALITAS BIMBINGAN PROPOSAL SKRIPSI PADA PRODI PBSI DAN PGSD MELALUI METODE PEMANDUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS (COGNITIVECOACHING)
Abstract. Aphenomenon indicates that consultation process of the thesis wiriting draft ofIndonesian and Literature Education students is not optimum yet. The problemsare the time consumed for writing the proposal of their thesis draft and theunsatisfying draft quality of the students. The first problem shows that moststudents took relatively longer time, more than 6 months for in fact theyshould have done that within 6 months only. Ideally, students are expected tofinish writing their thesis draft and read to be examined within 6 months. Todeal with this, classroom action research was done. The strategy applied isimplementing Cognitive Coaching was implemented into 3 cycles, which in eachcycle has activities reasing consecus, discussion, controvercial topic,dan problem solving serta writing journals. This method can elevate the qualityof the consultation of thesis draft as it was shown by the improvement ofstudents’ attendance 83,33 percent. Generally students’ activities also improveat level 74,5. Meanwhile, the writing of thesis proposal has also shown goodimrovement from cycle to cycle as 3 proposals (30%) that were presented inseminar are in good quality KataKunci : cognitive coaching,proposal skrips

Abstract. Need analysis for English for specificpurposes course is something very necessary. The benefits are for answering thequestions of needs which have been always specific for the learners themselves,and for the sake of make up purpose, that is to impress the students positivelythat the course is carried out seriously. ANALISIS KESALAHAN PENERJEMAHAN KATA “MUST” PADA CERITA THE MIRROR DAN IMPLIKASINYA DALAMPEMBELAJARAN
Abstrak. Translating is a hard work. It isnot only about finding the word of the source language (SL) having the samemeaning in the target language (TL). It talks about the message. Theword/phrase/sentence going to be translated is a text or it is called surfacestructure. A text needs context or known as deep structure which containsmessage. Therefore a word may have the same meaning either in SL or TL, butthey have different sense as they bring different message in different context.In this article, it is explored the mistranslation o the word “must”. Thisstudy observed 14 students who were learning English. They were asked totranslate a text entitled “The Mirror”. The analysis is focused on a paragraphconsisting of a word “must”. The result shows that the students are stillfocusing on the text or surface structure. They ignore the context or deepstructure. Thus, the message fails to be delivered. Penerapan InteractiveScrabble Game dalam MeningkatkanPerbendaharaan Glosarium GeografiKelas 8 pada Kelas Akselerasi di SMP Negeri 3 Jember
Abstrak. Scrabble Game merupakan permainan yang sering dimainkan olehseluruh kalangan tanpa memandang usia dan kultur budaya. Penerapan kegiatanpermainan ini didasari atas sangat kurangnya pengusaan perbendaharaanistilah-istilah (glosarium) Geografikelas 8 yang merupakan kelas akselarasi di SMP Negeri 3 Jember. Dimana kelasakselarasi memiliki karakteristik merupakan kelas yang berisikan siswa-siswaunggulan yang dirancang untuk menyelesaikan studi dalam waktu yang lebih cepatdari kelas reguler. Rasa bosan,jenuh,dan lelah selalu menghinggapi siswa-siswikelas akselerasi, sehingga dibutuhkaan kreatifitas dari seorang guru untukmelakukan perubahan dalam pola prosesbelajar mengajar di kelas akselerasi. Penerapan interctive scrabble game dilakukan dengan membagi kelas dalam 2(dua) kelompok besar,yang disebut sebagai kelompok scrabble (KS, kelompokeksperimen) dan kelompok konvensional (KK, kelompok kontrol) masing-masingterdiri dari 3 kelompok kecil (=1 kelompokkecil terdiri 2 siswa). Pada kelompokkonvensional melakukan kegiatan penerimaan glosariumsecara konvensional, sedangkan pada kelompok scrabble menerima glosarium dan menyusun sesuai dengankeinginan kelompok kecil. Setelahseluruh siswa menerima istilah geografi, dilakukan test dengan menggunakanwaktu selama 20 menit untuk mereview kembali isitilah (glosarium). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan selama 15 menit kelompokkonvensional rata-rata mampu mengingat dan menghafal sebanyak 15 glosarium dari 30 glosarium, sedangkan pada kelompok scrabble rata-rata mampumengingat dan mengahfal sebanyak 25 glosarium dari 30 glosarium. Sehingga penerapan interctivescrabble game meningkatakan pengusaan perbendaharaan glosarium sebesar 34 % dari pola PBM yang konvensional. Kata Kunci : ScrabbleGame, Kelas Akselerasi,SMP Negeri 3 Jembe
