BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Jaundice (hyperbilirubinemia) is one of the most common clinical complaints during infancy among term and premature infants during the first week of life. Phototherapy is an effective and accepted treatment for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, which may be associated with complications such as skin, eye and electrolyte disorders. This study was performed to compare the effect of phototherapy with oral calcium versus phototherapy alone in the treatment of unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia in healthy term infants. METHODS: This clinical trial study was performed on 50 healthy term infants with jaundice (serum bilirubin 6.9-21 mg/dL). Neonates were randomly divided into intervention (50 mg/kg body weight of oral calcium with phototherapy) and control (phototherapy) groups. Data related to age, gender, birth weight, gestational age, number of hospitalization days and bilirubin level at the beginning of hospitalization and at 24, 48 and 72 hours were collected and compared in a checklist. FINDINGS: Decrease in total bilirubin level was observed with a significant difference between the two groups (p=0.000). The mean unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia showed significant difference in the intervention group (2.1±0.5 mg/dl) and the control group (2.6±1.3 mg/dl) (p=0.03). The changes in unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia in repeated measures was also significant in the intervention group (p=0.01). CONCLUSION: The results of the study showed that oral calcium with phototherapy may be effective in reducing neonatal jaundice. © 2021, Babol University of Medical Sciences. All rights reserve

Keyword and phrase extraction from Persian texts: A review of the literature

    Get PDF
Keyword and phrase extraction is a prerequisite of many natural language processing tasks. However, a review on the related Persian and English literature showed that a few studies have already been done on how to extract keywords and phrases from Persian texts. Thus, aiming to shed light on the research status of Keyword and phrase extraction from Persian texts, the present study reviews the Persian and English publications which have assessed their research ideas over Persian texts. We also focus on each of the studies to challenge their methodologies, implementations and evaluation methods and measures. To our knowledge, a total number of 14 Persian and 6 English papers exist which have worked on the extraction of Persian keywords and phrases. Investigating on the papers revealed that they were mostly based on statistical and linguistic information. A majority of the papers suffered from the lack of either appropriate methodologies or lucid explanation of their research ideas. They generally used non-standard datasets and vague or problematic metrics to evaluate the experimental systems. Generally speaking, except 3 papers that appropriately reported their proposed methods, the other papers lacked reproducibility and generalizability. Hence, their results cannot be confidently used as a benchmark in evaluating future works, and their proposed ideas cannot be employed in developing applications for extraction of key words and phrases from Persian texts

Spiritual Intelligence and Post-abortion Depression: A Coping Strategy

Loss of pregnancy is a major stressor which can cause mental disorders. In stressful conditions, spiritual intelligence can be used as a coping strategy to manage and cope with the stressor. It may also produce positive outcomes in spontaneous abortion. This study aimed to assess the relationship of spiritual intelligence with depression after spontaneous abortion. This crosssectional descriptive-correlational study was done in 2015–2016 on 185 women with spontaneous abortion who were hospitalized in the postnatal care ward of Kowsar teaching hospital, Qazvin, Iran. Data collection was performed in two steps. In the first step, a demographic and obstetric characteristics questionnaire and the Spiritual Intelligence Self-Report Inventory were completed by participants during their hospital stay. In the second step, i.e., 7 days after spontaneous abortion, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale was completed for each participant over the phone. Variables which were found in univariate analysis to have a significant correlation with depression were entered into multiple logistic regression analysis to assess their roles in predicting depression. Most women were depressed (54%). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the significant predictors of depression were women’s educational status (OR 0.419; CI 0.18–0.93), gestational age at the time of abortion (OR 1.121; CI 1.02–1.22), and the personal meaning production dimension of spiritual intelligence (OR 0.82; CI 0.73–0.91). Spiritual intelligence is significantly correlated with post-abortion depression. Developing and following strategies for promoting spiritual intelligence can alleviate depression, stress, and anxiety after spontaneous abortion and also help manage complicated pregna

Rapid Determination of Benzalkonium chloride in aqueous samples by FTIR spectroscopy in tandem with chemometrics

    Get PDF
In this research, a powerful regression model coupled with FTIR spectroscopy (Mid, 800-1700 cm-1) has been proposed as an efficient method for precise determination of Benzalkonium chloride (BAK) in aqueous samples. For this purpose, both partial least squares regression (PLSR) and support vector regression (SVR) as methods of multivariate calibration were used for evaluation, and their results were compared. Accordingly, root mean square error of prediction, and leave-one-out cross-validation root mean square error, and correlation coefficients between the calculated ( R2 ) and the predicted ( ) values were used. In comparison to PLS

Evaluation of the "partnership care model" on quality of life and activity of daily living in stroke patients: A randomized clinical trial

    Get PDF
Background: Stroke is a widespread chronic disease which remains a serious problem for public health and is the cause of major disability and death in adults. Despite valuable efforts, these patients still need new care programs for recovery and rehabilitation. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the partnership care model (PCM) on quality of life (QOL) and activities of daily living (ADL) in stroke participants. Method: The study is a randomized clinical trial carried out in an educational and therapeutic center in 2019. Sixty-seven participants (allocated randomly in intervention and control groups) with cerebrovascular accident who had hospitalization histories were selected. Data collection instruments were the Stroke-Specific QOL scale and Lawton questionnaires. The care plan was developed and implemented for the intervention group after evaluating and recording basic information including demographic variables, care needs, and problems identified in the first PCM-based stage. Ethics approval was obtained from the University / Regional Research Ethics Committee (IR.NIMAD.REC.1397.236). Results: The results show that the mean scores of the QOL significantly increased after the intervention in the intervention group (before = 130.80; 3 months = 172.19; 6 months = 205.29) compared to the control group (before = 150; 3 months = 144.86; 6 months = 160.66). Also, the mean scores of the ADL significantly increased after the intervention in the intervention group (before = 1.96; 3 months = 3.64; 6 months = 4.87) compared to the control group (p <.05). The effect size is equal to 0.501 and 0.245 for QOL and ADL, respectively. Conclusion: The findings show that the care program based on a PCM recovered the QOL and ADL of stroke participants more than other interventions
