Psychometric Properties of the Fear of COVID‑19 Scale: a Response to Mercado‑Lara et al. “Validity and Reliability of the Spanish Version of Fear of COVID‑19 Scale in Colombian Physicians”
A paper reporting the psychometric properties of the Spanish Fear of COVID-19 Scale
(FCV-19S) among Colombian physicians was recently published in the International Journal
of Mental Health and Addiction. Although we welcome the translation and validation
of our seven-item scale, this commentary outlines some major concerns we have with the
study especially the removal of two items in developing a five-item FCV-19S. Based on
these concerns, we strongly recommend that healthcare providers and researchers should
use the five-item FCV-19S with caution

A novel ternary heterogeneous TiO2/BiVO4/NaY-Zeolite nanocomposite for photocatalytic degradation of microcystin-leucine arginine (MC-LR) under visible light
Microcystin-leucine arginine (MC-LR) is a carcinogenic toxin, produced by cyanobacteria. The release of this toxin into drinking water sources can threaten public health and environmental safety. Therefore, effective MC- LR removal from water resources is necessary. In the present study, the hydrothermal method was used to synthesize a novel ternary BiVO4/TiO2/NaY-Zeolite (B/T/N-Z) nanocomposite for MC-LR degradation under visible light. FESEM, FTIR, XRD, and DRS were performed for characterizing the nanocomposite structure. Also, the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was applied to determine the impact of catalyst dosage, pH, and contact time on the MC-LR removal. High-performance liquid chromatography was performed to measure the MC-LR concentration. Based on the results, independent parameters, including contact time, catalyst dosage, and pH, significantly affected the MC-LR removal (P <0.05). In other words, increasing the contact time, catalyst dosage, and acidic pH had positive effects on MC-LR removal. Among these variables, the catalyst dosage, with the mean square and F-value of 1041.37 and 162.84, respectively, had the greatest effect on the MC-LR removal efficiency. Apart from the interaction between the catalyst dosage and contact time, the interaction effects of other parameters were not significant. Also, the maximum MC-LR removal efficiency was 99.88% under optimal conditions (contact time =120 min, catalyst dosage =1 g/L, and pH =5). According to the results, the B/T/N-Z nanocomposite, as a novel and effective photocatalyst could be used to degrade MC-LR from polluted water
The differentiation effect of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) on human amniotic epithelial stem cells to express ectodermal lineage markers
Stem cells are a promising tool for treatment of a variety of degenerative diseases. Human amniotic epithelial stem cells (hAECs)
have desirable and unique characteristics that make them a proper candidate for cell therapy. In this study, we have investigated
the effects of BMP-4 (bone morphogenetic protein-4) and its inhibition on differentiation of AECs into ectodermal lineages.
Analysis of AEC-derived ectodermal lineages (neurons and keratinocytes) was performed by using flow cytometry technique for
Map2 and β-tubulin (as neuron markers), Olig2 and MBP (as oligodendrocyte markers), and K14 and K10 (as keratinocyte
markers). The results of this study illustrated that noggin (as BMP antagonist), BMP4, and both BMP4 and heparin (together or
separately) increased neural and keratinocyte marker expression, respectively. The expression of markers MAP2, olig2, and K14
in hAECs has been significantly decreased 21 days after exposure to differentiation medium (without growth factors) compared
with isolation day, which supports the hypothesis that AECs can be dedifferentiated into pluripotent cells. Moreover, activation
and inhibition of BMP signaling have no effects on viability of hAECs. The results of this study showed that BMP signaling and
its inhibition are the key factors for ectodermal lineage differentiation of amnion-derived stem cells

Nurses’ perception of patient safety culture and its relationship with adverse events: a national questionnaire survey in Iran
Background: Patient safety culture is an important factor in determining hospitals’ ability to address and reduce the occurrence of adverse events (AEs). However, few studies have reported on the impact of nurses’ perceptions of patient safety culture on the occurrence of AEs. Our study aimed to assess the association between nurses’ perception of patient safety culture and their perceived proportion of adverse events. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among 2295 nurses employed in thirty-two teaching hospitals in Iran. Nurses completed the Persian version of the hospital survey of patients’ safety culture between October 2018 and September 2019. Results: Positive Response Rates of overall patient safety culture was 34.1% and dimensions of patient safety culture varied from 20.9 to 43.8%. Also, nurses estimated that the occurrence of six adverse events varied from 51.2–63.0% in the past year. The higher nurses’ perceptions of “Staffing”, “Hospital handoffs and transitions”, “Frequency of event reporting”, “Non-punitive response to error”, “Supervisor expectation and actions promoting safety”, “Communication openness”, “Organizational learning continuous improvement”, “Teamwork within units”, and “Hospital management support patient safety” were significantly related to lower the perceived occurrence at least two out of six AEs (OR = 0.69 to 1.46). Conclusions: Our findings demonstrated that nurses’ perception regarding patient safety culture was low and the perceived occurrence of adverse events was high. The research has also shown that the higher level of nurses’ perception of patient safety culture was associated with lowered occurrence of AEs. Hence, managers could provide prerequisites to improve patient safety culture and reduce adverse events through different strategies, such as encouraging adverse events’ reporting and holding training courses for nurses. However, further research is needed to assess how interventions addressing patient safety culture might reduce the occurrence of adverse events. © 2021, The Author(s)
The Predictive Factors of Job Performance in Nurses' Moral Distress
Introduction: Moral distress is one of the most complex ethical problems for nurses working in
Intensive Care Units. Desired job performance of the nurse guarantees the quality of health care
provided to patients and is an important factor in accelerating the process of treatment and
recovery of patients. This study was conducted to investigate the predictive factors of job
performance in nurses' moral distress.
Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, in which 256 nurses working in ICU wards
of private and public hospitals of Qazvin province (from January to March 2019) were selected
through convenience sampling method. Demographic characteristics questionnaire, Six
Dimension Scale of Nursing Performance and Modified Moral Distress Scale-Revised were used
for data collection. Statistical analysis was performed using linear regression model test in SPSS
22.
Results: The results showed that the mean score of nurses' moral distress was 171.37±55.63. In
multivariate linear regression model, only educational dimension of job performance in both
frequency (β=-26.37, P=0.001) and quality (β =-76.15, P=0.025) correlated significantly with
moral distress.
Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, educational dimension of job performance
is a predictive factor for moral distress. Therefore, steps can be taken to reduce moral distress inclinical settings, such as the use of nurses with specialized training in Intensive Care Units,
paying special attention to teaching ethical issues in nursing centers and holding retraining
courses for nurses.

Global prevalence of intestinal protozoan contamination in vegetables and fruits: A systematic review and meta-analysis
A B S T R A C T
Environmental contamination of vegetables and fruits with intestinal protozoan trophozoites, cysts and oocysts is a means of transmitting parasitic agents of public health importance. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the global prevalence of intestinal protozoan parasite contamination in vege- tables and fruits. Several databases (Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest and Google Scholar) were searched for literature published up to August 2021. Pooled prevalence was determined using the meta-package in R (version 3.6.1). Out of 90,404 publications, 189 articles (202 datasets) met the inclusion criteria. Among these, 183 investigations documented protozoan contamination in vegetables and 20 in fruits. The pooled prevalence (95% confidence interval) was 20% (16%–24%) for vegetables and 13% (7%–21%) for fruits. The highest pooled prevalence was found in South-East Asian WHO region 37% (6%–76%). The most prevalent protozoan parasite in vegetables was Cryptosporidium spp. (11%, 7%–15%). As well, Entamoeba histolytica was the most common agent found in fruits (9%, 4%–14%). Furthermore, the unwashed samples had the highest pooled prevalence of contamination (22%, 3%–49%). Our data suggest a possible risk of protozoan infection in humans via unwashed vegetables and fruits. Accidental ingestion of protozoa occurs through consumption of contami- nated vegetables and fruits that have been improperly washed and prepared under poor sanitation. Using san- itary irrigation water, consuming properly cleaned and cooked vegetables, and practicing good hygiene can all assist to reduce the risk of protozoa infection
