Effectiveness of a mobile app-based educational intervention to treat internet gaming disorder among Iranian adolescents: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
Background: The use of video games, a hobby for many teenagers in their leisure time, has brought with it a new
potential for concerns. Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is a mental condition classified as a disorder due to addictive
behaviors. It may include use of video games, both online and offline. Consequences of IGD may include
introversion, social anxiety, mood swings, loneliness, sleep problems, behavioral problems, depression, low selfesteem,
and increased violence. In order to design an app-based intervention for adolescents, a transtheoretical
model (TTM) has been used. This widely used model in the field of behavioral change is also practical for health
education programs. In addition, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been used to make people more aware of
their behaviors, feelings and thoughts and how to achieve behavioral change. The present study seeks to
determine the effectiveness of this app-based intervention in in the treatment of IGD among adolescents.
Method: In this single-blinded, randomized, controlled trial, 206 high-school adolescents aged 13 to 18 years in
Qazvin city will be recruited. Eligible adolescents will be randomly assigned into intervention and control groups.
Eight consecutive sessions delivered over 2 months and based on the TTM and CBT will be delivered through the
`app (named HAPPYTEEN) to the intervention group. The control group will receive a sleep hygiene intervention (8
consecutive sessions for 2 months) via the app. Data collection tools include the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale,
Insomnia Severity Index, Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales, Stages of Change Questionnaire, Decision Balance,
and Self-Efficacy. The study measures will be completed at baseline, post intervention, and 1 month and 3 months
after the intervention.
Discussion: The results of this intervention could be used as adjunct therapy for adolescents with IGD
Estimation of sleep problems among pregnant women during COVID-19 pandemic: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Objective To estimate the sleep problems among
pregnant women during the COVID-19
pandemic.
Eligibility criteria English, peer-reviewed,
observational
studies published between December 2019 and July 2021
which assessed and reported sleep problem prevalence
using a valid and reliable measure were included.
Information sources Scopus, Medline/PubMed Central,
ProQuest, ISI Web of Knowledge and Embase.
Risk of bias assessment tool The Newcastle-Ottawa
Scale checklist.
Synthesis of results Prevalence of sleep problems was
synthesised using STATA software V.14 using a random
effects model. To assess moderator analysis, meta-regression
was carried out. Funnel plot and Egger’s test
were used to assess publication bias. Meta-trim
was used
to correct probable publication bias. The jackknife method
was used for sensitivity analysis.
Included studies A total of seven cross-sectional
studies
with 2808 participants from four countries were included.
Synthesis of results The pooled estimated prevalence
of sleep problems was 56% (95% CI 23% to 88%,
I2=99.81%, Tau2=0.19). Due to the probability of
publication bias, the fill-and-
trim
method was used to
correct the estimated pooled measure, which imputed
four studies. The corrected results based on this method
showed that pooled prevalence of sleep problems was
13% (95% CI 0% to 45%; p<0.001). Based on meta-regression,
age was the only significant predictor of
prevalence of sleep problems among pregnant women.
Limitations of evidence All studies were cross-sectional
absence of assessment of sleep problems prior to
COVID-19,
and the outcomes of the pregnancies among
those with and without sleep problems in a consistent
manner are among the limitation of the current review.
Interpretation Pregnant women have experienced
significant declines in sleep quality when faced with
the COVID-19
pandemic. The short-term
and long-term
implications of such alterations in sleep on gestational
and offspring outcomes are unclear and warrant further
studies.

Clinical and Laboratory-based Diagnosis in Cases Suspected with COVID-19; An Updated and Comprehensive Systematic Review Study
Objectives
A novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was
identified in Wuhan, China, which quickly involved
majority of the countries all around the world. Due to
the high rate of mortality and morbidity, needless to
say the importance of accurate and early diagnosis,
especially in suspected and asymptomatic cases.
Hence, in this article, authors tried to provide
practical and standardized diagnostic approaches for
cases suspected with COVID-19 infection.
Material and Methods
Data of this review study were collected from 7
search engine/databases, commencing from
December 2019 to June 2021 by using 6 keywords
according to Medical Subject Headings (MeSH)
terms and our inclusion/exclusion criteria.
Result
Due to various clinical manifestations of COVID-19,
and high potential for mutagenicity, identification of
suspected patients is of great importance for effective
control of infection, and improvement of clinical
decisions. Therefore, medical history of the patients,
clinical signs and symptoms, chest computational
tomography, serological and molecular diagnosis can
be effective in faster identification of mentioned
patients. In spite of the fact that molecular tests have
been considered as the gold standard for diagnosis of
COVID-19, but there is still high rate of falsenegativity. Then, combinative usage of the
complementary tests can reduce any
misinterpretations for suspected cases.
Conclusion
Screening for suspected cases in the shortest possible
turnaround time is dependent on the appropriate
diagnostic approaches. Subsequently, this allows
physicians immediately provide proper medical
interventions for suspected patients who are at greater
risk for developing more serious complications than
COVID-19 like severe nosocomial infections.
