Serological survey of neospora caninum and toxoplasma gondii co-infection in rodents in Northwestern Iran
Background: Our knowledge of the epidemiology of rodents’ parasitic agents
in Iran is scarce, although some of these pathogens play an important role in
human and veterinary medicine, such as Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum. The purpose of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum in rodents of northwestern Iran between
Mar and Dec 2015.
Methods: Overall, 157 serum samples from rodents (101 Meriones persicus, 41
Mus musculus, and 15 Cricetulus migratorius) were assayed by the indirect fluorescence antibody test (IFAT) for antibodies to T. gondii and N. caninum.
Results: We found a prevalence of 20.38% (32/157) for N. caninum, 35%
(55/157) for T. gondii. Co-presence of antibodies to N. caninum and T. gondii
was found in 10 (6.36%) rodents. A significant association was found between
the rodents species and seropositivity to N. caninum (P<0.05) but there was no
association with rodents species for T. gondii. The overall prevalence of the
aforementioned parasites was higher in male versus female rodents.
Conclusion: The high seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis and neosporosis in
rodents in the study area has implications for translocation of these infections
across wider geographical regions since these rodents are mostly preyed on by
cats or dogs; hence, which can transfer the parasite to other host
The branding process for healthcare centers: Operational strategies from consumer's identification to market development
Medical centers need branding approach to improve their position in patients’ minds.
This study was carried out using mixed method. The participants included main
experts, hospital managers and headquarters of the Ministry of Health. The data
collection tool was a semi-structured interview and a researcher-made questionnaire.
Branding process was conceptualized in 5steps, including Market Identification,
Brand Identity, Brand Positioning, Development and Consolidation Strategy. All
path coefficients were defined in the range. The results of the indices showed that
the fit was good and the final model was valid. The activities of Medical centers
should be based on the identification of the target market. Unique services with new
knowledge and equipment and experienced clinical staff to meet patients’ needs with
appropriate price and quality have to be provided
Investigation of the Effect of Black Pepper Powder on Microbiological and Physicochemical Properties of Processed Cheese
Abstract
The recent tendency in cheese production is to produce flavored cheese using natural flavoring materials with nutritional and high-quality microbial value for human consumption. This research is aimed at investigating the microbiological and physicochemical properties of processed peppery cheese. Samples were kept under the three temperatures of 6, 25 and 37°C; microbial and physicochemical evaluations were performed on the samples immediately after being produced, after the end of each month from the production date until 4 months, and one month after the expiration date. The test was performed using a sample of processed cheese without pepper powder. The used plan was quite random, and it was repeated for 3 times in every treatment. The results of physicochemical analyses of peppery cheese compared to the control sample indicated that the peppery cheese had lower changes in pH, dry matter content and texture during the period of being kept under different temperatures and less microbial contamination was observed in it compared to the control cheese. The obtained results showed that the peppery cheese could keep the product quality better than the control cheese under different time and temperature conditions of treatments while highly controlling the changes in the chemical and microbial factors.

Identification of microorganisms in irreversible pulpitis and primary endodontic infections with respect to clinical and radiographic findings
Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the composition of microbiota of irreversible pulpitis and primary endodontic
infections with respect to clinical and radiographic findings by performing cultures and 16s rDNA sequencing in Iranian patients.
Material and methods In this prospective cross-sectional study, samples were collected from 41 root canals for 4 main groups of
patients. Bacterial identification was performed by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and 16s rDNA sequencing of aerobic
and anaerobic cultivable colonies taken from patients’ culture plates. Additionally, the presence of 13 bacterial species and 3
nonbacterial species was also explored using PCR and species-specific primers.
Results Sixteen microbial species, 1 fungus (Candida albicans), and 1 virus (Herpes simplex virus) were discovered and isolated.
Species with the highest prevalence were Dialister invisus(68.3%), Porphyromonas gingivalis(58.8%), Streptococcus salivarius
(58.5%), and Treponema denticola (56.1%). Lysinibacillus fusiformis (19.1%) was detected in the root canals for the first time.
Candida albicans was seen in 11 cases (26.8%). Herpes simplex virus (HSV) was seen in 4 patients (9.8%).
Conclusions Our results suggest that Gram-negative anaerobic oral bacteria are the majority of the microbes in primary endodontic infections. Various combinations of bacterial species were related to different clinical and radiographic conditions.
Lysinibacillus fusiformis was detected for the first time in primary endodontic infections.
Clinical relevance The results of this investigation might help clinicians choose to identify suspected endodontic pathogens in the
etiology of each form of pulpal and periradicular diseases to determine the best therapeutic measure
SURVEY OF FRAUD IN THE FOODS THAT WERE USED IN ITS PRODUCTION OF SAFFRON
Food fraud is referred to as the intentional substitution addition tampering
or misrepresentation of food. Food fraud is a broader term than the
economically motivated adulteration. Different method are performed of
fraud for instances include carcinogen colorants in foods, melamine in
milk, species swapping of seafood, dilution of fruit juices, unauthorized
repackaging.Although the vast majority of food fraud incidents do not pose
a public health risk, some cases have resulted in actual or potential public
health risks such as continuous consumption a substance that can be used
as the artificial colors. It is not known conclusively how widespread food
fraud is in Iran or worldwide therefore this deficit gave us the motivation
for our review. In the total of 203 food samples tested in 72 (35.46) samples
were detected food fraud therefore this survey showed that economically
motivated food fraud and adulteration was an emerging and serious food
safety problem in Iran. The results of the survey can be used not only to
analyze food safety risks but also to prioritize target areas for food policymaking and enforcement of food safety regulation
Incidence and Risk Factors of Diaper Dermatitis in Hospitalised Children Aged 0-24 Months: An Epidemiological Descriptive Study in Iran
Academic Stress and Adolescents Mental Health: A Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling (MSEM) Study in Northwest of Iran
Background: We aimed to determine the relation of different sources of academic stress and
adolescents´ mental health through mediator variables on the student and school levels.Study
design: A cross-sectional study.
Methods: Overall, 1724 students aged 12-19 yr were selected from 53 high schools in Qazvin
City, northwest instead of central Iran through stratified cluster sampling. The sources of
academic stress include family conditions, education system, future concerns, academic
competitions, interaction with teachers, school disciplines, peer pressure, parental involvement,
and financial problems. Academic self-efficacy and self-concept were the mediator constructs.
The students and schools´ information were considered on levels 1 and 2, respectively. A
Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling (MSEM) analysis was done.
Results: High value of academic stress was associated with reduction of mental health. On the
student level, the academic stress caused by the families 0.31 (95% CI: 0.28, 0.34), peers 0.29
(95% CI: 0.27, 0.32), and the education system 0.21 (95% CI: 0.18, 0.24) had the highest impact
on the adolescentsˊ mental health, respectively. There was a direct and indirect relation between
academic stress and mental health through the self-concept. On the school level, only familyconditions stress had a relation with mental health (P=0.015, b=1.08). Academic self-efficacy
showed no significant relation in the model.
Conclusion: The stress from the family is the most important source of stress associated with
adolescent mental health. Self-concept unlike academic self-efficacy had an important mediating
role in the relation between different sources of academic stress and adolescents' mental health.
