    PERCEPTIONS ON THE EFFECTIVNESS OF USING SONGS IN TEACHING ENGLISH AT SMAN MODEL TERPADU MADANI PALU

    The Songs can provide attractive and instructional media in learning activities. Song has been designed to motivate students to participate the English teaching and learning. The study aims to identify the students’ perception on using songs in teaching English. Interviews are conducted as the research instruments to get students’ perceptions towards English songs in teaching English. The interviews show that most students feel English songs are very helpful for them in improving their Speaking skill. They also feel that the English song they listen to have the power to encourage students' motivation to learn the. Correct pronunciation and learn English more deeply. In addition, the beauty of the tone and rhythm of the music also makes students feel happy and relaxed. They also feel that by listening to the lyrics of English song carefully, they can easily get information about the correct pronunciation from native speakers. It makes them enthusiastic and increases their interest in learning

    THE USE OF HELLO TALK IN IMPROVING WRITING ABILITY

    The objectives of this research are to describe how to use HelloTalk in teaching English and to know from the review whether the use of HelloTalk can improve the students’ writing ability. The study applied qualitative research that implemented Library Research Method. The data were collected from scientific writings on the use of HelloTalk in improving writing ability between 2019 and 2024. The findings indicate that HelloTalk can significantly improve students' writing ability by fostering collaboration, creativity, real-time interaction, out-of-class practice, grammar and vocabulary reinforcement, and personalized feedback. HelloTalk is a valuable tool for teachers to enhance English language teaching and promote students' writing development.Teachers are encouraged to integrate HelloTalk into their English language curriculum to leverage its various features and benefits for improving students' writing skills. Further research could explore the long-term effects of HelloTalk on writing proficiency and investigate its potential in different educational contexts

    STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN WRITING PROCEDURE TEXT

    This research aimed to discover students’ dfficulties in writing procedure text. qualitative descriptve design was used. The subject of this research was 7 students in ninth grade at SMP Negeri  Poso Pesisir. The instrument of this research was documents of the result of the students’ writing that given by the English teacher. Based on the data analysis, the data showed that the students have difficulties in writing procedure text, especially in term on of generic stucture: Goal, material/ingredients, step. And in language features: the use of adverbial of sequence/temporal conjunction, use of imperative sentence, use of adverbials, use of action verb, and use of present tense. Based on the difficulties the teachers are expected to be facilitator for students in learning writing procedure text and for students they expected to have motivation in learning especially in writing generic structure and language features

    USING LIST GROUP LABEL (LGL) STRATEGY TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 20 PALU

    The objective of this research is to figure out whether or not the using of List Group Label (LGL) strategy can improve vocabulary achievement of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Palu. The population of this research are the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Palu, the sample was VII D as experimental class and VII A as control class. The research applied quantitative method. The instrument of the data collection were pre-test and post-test. Those data were analyzed statistically. The pre-test was in low level and the post-test was in high level. The pre-test was in low level because the students have difficulties in vocabulary related to hobbies. However, the post-test that in high level because of the List Group Label (LGL) strategy can improve vocabulary achievement. The result of the data analysis shows that the t-counted was greater than the t-table. In conclusion, the use of List Group Label (LGL) strategy can improve vocabulary achievement of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Palu

    ANALYZING JUNIOR HIGHSCHOOL STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION IN LEARNING ENGLISH IN NEW NORMAL

    The purpose of this research is to design a qualitative research method. In collecting data 30 students and five students were randomly. The research design used questionnaires and interviews. The results of data analysis show that the motivation to learn English in the new normal is high, making them want to go back to school; compared to online learning, students are easier to understand and can achieve learning achievement by returning to school. Based on the statement above, the researcher concludes that it can help students with their willingness to learn again in school in the new normal

    IMPROVING THE ABILITY TO IDENTIFY REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS THROUGH READING NARRATIVE TEXTS

    The purpose of this article is to prove that the use of reading narrative texts can improve the ability of grade eight students of SMPN 3 Palu to identify regular and irregular verbs. The method used is a true-experimental design in which there were two classes involved – experimental and control class. The question of this research is “Can the use of reading narrative texts improve the ability of grade eight students of SMPN 3 Palu in identifying regular and irregular verbs?” The sample of this research is the grade eight students of class I and J of SMPN 3 Palu. Class VIII I became the experimental group, and class VIII J became the control group. Based on hypothesis testing done, by using 0.05 level of significance and 78 degrees of freedom (df), the researchers found that the t-counted (7.12) was higher than the t-table (1.66). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. In short, the answer to the research question above is “The use of reading narrative texts can improve the ability of grade eight students of SMPN 3 Palu to identify regular and irregular verbs

    LEARNING STRATEGIES APPLIED BY SUCCESSFUL EFL LEARNERS IN SPEAKING

    Research objectives describe what researchers want to achieve through research. This research will apply a qualitative descriptive design. Therefore, to find out the learning strategies applied by successful speaking students, the subjects in this research were students of Tadulako University, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, class C English Education 2018. This research aims to determine the learning strategies used by successful EFL students in speaking English. The subject of this research is students who get grades B+ to A in speaking four; 15 participants were obtained from DPNA and used the purposive sampling technique, and respondents who had good answers continued to the interview stage. This interview stage uses a snowball sampling research technique. Data collection uses a google forms questionnaire and interviews. As for the strategies, There are five strategies that the researcher obtained through interviews and from the 15 statements in the questionnaire, two strategies became the dominant strategy used.     IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS THROUGH DISCOVERY LEARNING

    The objective of this research was to prove that the Discovery Learning method can improve reading comprehension at the tenth grade students of SMA Bala Keselamatan Palu. This research used quasi-experimental design. The sample of this research were the students of X B as the experimental class which consisted of 22 students and the students of X A as the control class which consisted 22 of students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The result of this research revealed that there was a significant improvement in the score of students taught by using Discovery Learning method. The improvement could be seen from the changes in students score which were previously poor to fair. In other words, the use of Discovery Learning method can improve reading comprehension at the tenth grade students of SMA Bala Keselamatan Palu

    The objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of using discovery learning on students’ learning outcomes in Reading Comprehension to the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Bungku Tengah. This research used a quasi-experimental research design. There are two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group who received a pre-test and post-test. The population of this study was class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Bungku Tengah. The research sample used a simple random sampling technique. Class XI MIA 5, totaling 32 students, was the experimental group and Class XI MIA 1, totaling 32 students, was the control group. The experimental group was given treatment while the control group was not. The test results showed that the average score of the experimental group on the post-test was 79.75 greater than the average score of the control group on the post-test of 52.62. These results also show that the t-count of 2.53 is higher than the t-table of 1.670 and the hypothesis is accepted. In conclusion, the use of discovery learning method can improve students's learning outcomes in reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Bungku Tengah

    This research aims to find out correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability of undergraduate students at Tadulako University. The subjects of this research were students of the fourth semester and the research subjects were randomly selected to be the sample of this study. The total number of samples was 30 students. They worked on a test of vocabulary and speaking to have data of the relationship. The data were tested to have normality and linear relationship and the result of tests indicated that data are normally distributed and have a linear relationship. Then, the data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient to find out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability. The result of analysis indicated that the correlation coefficient between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability is 0.559. The result is categorized as “moderate” (0.40 to 0.59). Therefore, the hypothesis of the study is accepted, in which there is a positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability of the eight grade students. In other word, the greater the English vocabulary student acquire, the better their speaking ability is
