DETERMINANTS OF GDP PER CAPITA IN BRICS AND ASEAN COUNTRIES: A QUANTILE REGRESSION APPROACH

    No full text
This study investigates the determinants of GDP per capita in BRICS and ASEAN countries by accounting for heterogeneity across income levels. While previous research predominantly relies on mean-based estimation methods, such approaches may conceal variations in how growth factors operate across different stages of development. Using panel data from 21 countries over the period 2010–2023, this study applies quantile regression to examine how macroeconomic factors, labor productivity, and institutional quality influence GDP per capita at the 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75 quantiles. The results reveal that household consumption significantly promotes GDP per capita only in middle- and upper-income countries, while foreign direct investment and government expenditure show no significant effects across quantiles. In contrast, labor productivity and political stability consistently exert strong positive influences at all income levels, indicating their fundamental role in sustaining economic growth. Government effectiveness becomes significant only in higher-income countries, suggesting that institutional capacity yields greater returns as economies mature. These findings highlight that productivity enhancement and institutional stability, rather than capital inflows alone, are the primary drivers of income growth in emerging economies. The study underscores the importance of policies focused on human capital development, structural transformation, and governance improvement to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth

Inventory Control of Steel Materials in Shipyard Company Using the Continuous Review Method

    No full text
Ship repair activities are characterized by highly uncertain material requirements because the scope of work is often finalized only after on-dock inspection. This uncertainty frequently leads to material shortages, project delays, and increased operational costs, particularly in replating processes where steel is the primary material. This study aims to develop an improved inventory control policy by integrating demand forecasting and continuous review inventory modeling. An ABC classification was first conducted to identify high-value materials requiring strict control, with Category A items selected for further analysis. Demand forecasting was performed using Exponential Smoothing and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models, and forecasting accuracy was evaluated using Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) and Mean Squared Error (MSE). The method with the lowest error was then incorporated into a Continuous Review (Q) Model with Backorders to determine optimal order quantities, safety stock, and reorder points. A simulation comparing the proposed policy with the company’s existing practice shows that the proposed approach reduces total inventory-related costs by IDR 2,671,910,250.20, equivalent to a 7.645% cost saving, while improving material availability and reducing shortage risks. The findings demonstrate that combining machine-learning-based forecasting with probabilistic inventory control can significantly enhance inventory performance in project-based industries with fluctuating demand, such as ship repair

This research was motivated by field problems at PT Fortuna Mandiri Sejahtera Palembang, where employees still experience unclear directions from their superiors, high workloads, and unpredictable coal loading and unloading schedules. These conditions cause stress, reduce work-life balance, and indicate that transformational leadership has not been optimally implemented in facing dynamic work situations. This study aims to determine the effect of transformational leadership, work-life balance, and job stress on employee performance. The method used is quantitative with an associative approach to measure the relationship between variables. The research variables consist of transformational leadership (X₁), work-life balance (X₂), job stress (X₃), and employee performance (Y). The sampling technique used was saturated sampling with a total of 77 employees as respondents. The results showed a constant value of 17.573, a transformational leadership coefficient of 0.321, work-life balance coefficient of 0.399, and job stress coefficient of -0.317. Work-life balance has a significant and the greatest effect on employee performance (t count 3.074 > t table 1.993). Transformational leadership also has a significant effect (t count 2.881 > t table 1.993). Meanwhile, job stress has a negative and significant effect on performance (t count -3.752 < t table 1.993). Based on the coefficient of determination test, it is known that there are still 59.2% of other variables influencing employee performance that were not examined in this study.   &nbsp

Economic Policy Implications of LQ and DLQ Analysis in Strategic National Project Area

This study examines the economic policy implications of the Location Quotient (LQ) and Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) analyses in the context of the Tanimbar Islands, located in Indonesia’s Maluku province. The islands, rich in natural resources, face significant development challenges, including poor infrastructure, geographic isolation, and limited industrialization. The upcoming INPEX project, a large-scale energy initiative by a Japanese corporation, is expected to transform the region’s economy through investments, job creation, and infrastructure development. The aim of this research is to analyze which sectors—using LQ and DLQ—show the most promise for growth in light of the INPEX project, and to propose local economic policy adjustments that can maximize these opportunities. The study finds that while the primary sectors, such as agriculture and fisheries, have potential, underdeveloped infrastructure and outdated practices hinder their growth. Strategic planning, informed by LQ and DLQ analyses, is critical to aligning the region’s economic development with the upcoming industrial transformations

ANALYSIS OF RECRUITMENT AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT OF THE INDONESIAN NAVY CORPS TO IMPROVE ORGANIZATIONAL EFFICIENCY

This study aims to analyze the recruitment and career development system for officers in the Indonesian Navy in order to improve organizational efficiency. The main problem faced is an imbalance in the composition of officers across rank strata, which has an impact on career stagnation, suboptimal filling of positions, and reduced organizational effectiveness. The research uses a descriptive-qualitative approach supported by quantitative analysis, through the Cross Sectional method to map personnel flow (inflow, throughflow, outflow), calculating Length of Service in Rank (MDDP) and Length of Service as an Officer (MDP), and optimizing Goal Programming to determine the ideal intake of new officers according to the organizational structure requirements in the Personnel Structure List (DSP). The results of the study show a surplus of officers at the Second Lieutenant and Colonel levels, as well as a significant shortage at the middle levels (First Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel). The optimization model using Goal Programming recommends the recruitment of 106 Second Lieutenants each year to achieve a balanced DSP structure by 2050. In addition, SWOT analysis resulted in priority strategies in the form of improving the DSP-based planning system and merit system, redistributing positions, and strengthening education and international cooperation. This study provides theoretical contributions to the development of data-based human resource management concepts, as well as practical contributions to policy makers in formulating adaptive, efficient, and sustainable career development strategies for the Indonesian Navy Corps
